What To Do If You Loose The Vehicles Registration Book?
seeker replied to xXx's topic in General Automotive
Why not check with RMV about the procedure? they are a lot more organised compared to a few years back..... Other option might be to call 1919 or 4707070 for govt. info centre (www.gic.gov.lk); if they don't have info about the query at the time, they usually call you back... (they really do guys, I've tried this and was actually surprised this happens in SL ) Let us know the outcome of it too mate, this'll be valuble info for all vehicle owners.... -
Yep! all we have to do now is to pack our bags and fly over to Uncle Sam's land.... where civics save more juice...
-
Great thread Bro.... this prompted me to think...... how'bout another list to help us cool down the frustration in good ole colombo traffic? My personal fav in this situ are country music / slow rock / 70's sinhala songs.....
-
If comfort is no issue... Maruti or Alto........ Starlet reflect might be a better option.... ....and from personal experience, a well maintained SB13 does around 12-13 in Colombo (and it's diesel) and around 16 outstation. Trick is to find a well maintained one....
-
Why do I get this feeling that MAS anyway had a soft spot for the 2wd Tuscan 2l, above others.........
-
But isn't a 2wd a bit of a risky option for an SUV? if U get stuck, for example....
-
Well... thanks for some really useful info guys... have one more thing to clear.... what's the long term down side of a full time 4wd?
-
Yes, but when you compare the maintanance cost and re-sale value, wouldn't Terios be a better choice? (not to mantion the customer care attitude of the parties in question !) ...and since he'll be doing more city running, wouldn't it be a bit easy on the purse for fuel? (hope gpmac can give me the rough consumption figures..... I know SUVs are not meant for fuel stingy people, but, in this day and age, that too matters ) and by the way guys, does full time four wheel have any added issues over a few years of use?
-
Well, two things, one is ground clearance... we frequently travel to this outstation place with a pretty bad road... (this ai not for a 4x4 adventure, mind you... ) Second, the comparatively shorter wheelbase, more practical in office car parks .... We do have the '06 civic, but with the low clarance, it'll be a sorry sight travelling on that bumpy road... In any case, what's d hatch U r recomending? and provided my Bro agrees on a second hand SUV, what's the best buy?
-
Hi guys.... first of all, wish U a happy 2008! Secondly, the question is, whether someone can tell me the pluses and minuses of the New Terios. This is for my Bro, who's looking for a compact SUV brand new / unregistered.. price around 5Mn To my knowledge, Rush and Terios are same, except that Daihatsu and Toyota market them seperately. Reasons for choosing are ground clearance and an 'acceptable' look. other than that, can someone tell me: 1) Fuel consumption (and whether it's acceptable) 2) Availability of spares 3) Whether to go for terios or Rush..... or change our minds 4) any other helpful comment.... Thanks. p.s: I did see MAS's Q about SUVs.... But my Bro doesn't think much about the representatives of Koreans , and would like a newer vehicle, if possible..

Agreed with xXx..... if money is not an issue, it's upto the individual todecide what they like.... how can anybody tell U which car you SHOULD enjoy going around? if U love driving around in an old beetle over a flashy new car of any brand, that's Ur business....
-
Guys.. the finacial stability is one key factor that'll define the life style of an individual or even a nation... ...and since we know that as a nation no such thing exists here, the common man is compelled to take the safe route and use the Toyotas or Nissans... the regulars in AL would remember I asked about the car they love to own, a few days back..... and if you think of the very reasons why they don't actually drive around in them in SL, you'll get the answer.... A used BMW is fine... if you have money to waste
-
This is getting reeeeely interesting..... come on guys..... stretch the imagination more..... we might even have a poll on this.... ...All cars ever manufactured are up for grabs here.... (Except my father's, of course! )
-
Guys, Thought this might be an interesting Q to ask from all you car freaks...... Given no restriction on make, model, year of manufacture and the budget, what is the oldest car you'd love to own? ....... and why?

Hi DCL, Wonder how TL can promise that taxes will not affect you... Govt can at any time impose whatever they like.... believe the permit ones above 1.6l were suddenly taxed quite a few bucks extra.... Better have some extra cash ready in any case.... we've used three permits todate, during past 10 years, and in all three endedup paying more..... As far as i know, most of the agents have messed up the promised deadlines with this permit shipments... (those who didn't, never got any orders!!! ) TL was probably the saddest story...... so much demand for the 141 Corolla.... and they couldn't give the worldwide launch date... blah! blah!.... and the other fellows benefitted!! Witth regard to extending permits, my understanding is U don't have to, if the LC is already opened.... but plese double check as I may be wrong.....

Ah yes! the no: plate seems a half a mile from the drivers head rest; but I'm kind of getting used to it. anyway, keeping an extra centimetre away from buses won't hurt, is it? But one thing that worries me is the way the front no plate sticks out from either side.....very good chance of getting entangled and broken in car parks......eh?
-
Well that's some consolation... anyway... read that article.... if I'm not mistaken, they've don somthing like 26/l under various conditions (minus the three wheelers and Busses filled roads).... beats me how they managed that figure....
-
Indeed! ... and not necessarily because we distrust anybody in good ole SL, eh (if U know what I mean!) I think wisest at this moment is to follow Supra's advice.... don't really want to mess up with the ECU.... not when it's this new...
-
Guess U R right again.. Anyway, will try out Ur advice..... I do agree... the car's fantastic.... but there'll always be that tiny bit some where in the corner of the heart that'll yearn for a few more meters on the juice.... Thanks loads, guys, for all the help...
-
Agreed 100%
-
Yep! sorry guys for quoting the wrong year. it's the '06 model, brought in '07, as Supra mentions.... Think U R right on second count as well .... there's less traffic in Matara, given U avoid school traffic.... but 3km is a huge difference Anyway, getting back, can you guys recommend any method on improving on the fuel thing.....
-
Do you mean it's a prob with the gear ratio? in which case we've no choice here?
-
Is it due to our lack of knowlege in utilising the Vtec effectively? Am i wrong in thinking it works best during constant speed? If that's the case, and given the fact that we have to constantly change speed in SL traffic, is there a way of improving on the above figure?

Hi Guys, We broght the 2007 civic a couple of months back (Great Car ) one issue though.. as of now it's doing only around 6.5 - 7/ l in Colombo. The agent says the figure is usually around 10 in city. car has done only around 800km. Is this the normal situ until engine gets seasoned or am I missing something here? Really appreciate your help before I buy a licenced gun.... By the way, This is a 1.6l, auto transmission, if that helps... Thanks in advance....
