I tell this again, the bottom line is, Prius is just as fast as most 1.5L-1.6L cars that most Sri Lankans drive, no one here can argue against that. Stop nit-picking.

It is actually just as fast most Regular 1.5-1.6L class vehicles that most Sri Lankans drive(Axela, Axio, Allion, Premio). The specific Noah in question is pretty fast for a van in Sri Lanka. Bdw how fast is the vehicle that you own?
  7. Wow the Allion A20 engine! That's pretty fast van then, but I think this van returns only about half the fuel efficiency of a Prius. Therefore I think Prius is still a good all-round choice (although it is 1.5 seconds slower to 100km/h than this Noah)

  10. Prius comes only with auto(CVT) gearbox and I am quite sure 141 auto would find it difficult to keep up with a Prius 3rd generation. In fact according to car tests Prius is much faster than beloved Mazda Axela/3(1.5L) too (in a straight line)!!! Of the ordinary 1.5L Japanese family sedan lineup only the Honda Civic can trump the Prius in terms of straight line speed.

  12. By now I have checked out quite a few FD1s and some owners said they have done 13 or so when they go outstation under smooth driving. (most of the FD1 owners I encountered are real gentleman and I can't see them quoting false figures to gain a profit) Driving sytle makes a big difference to fuel economy when driving outstation. I can relate to a first hand experience where we travelled to Ampara from Mahiyangaynaya in our Honda City and on the way it was my father driving at speeds closer to 70kmph. Car returned 16.5 kmpl. On the way back I was driving consistently above 120kmph and once even touching 160kmph. Car only returned 10.5 kmpl. Same car, same carrying weight and traffic levels, the difference made by driving style was 6kmpl!!!
  13. I am not sold on hybrids in Sri Lanka as yet. To begin with it is more expensive to insure and maintain. I wonder with my extent of usage, I could reap any net-benefit by opting for Civic hybrid. If at all I will only consider Prius 3rd general touring model.

  15. Auto for 4.8 million(after bargaining). I could have confirmed the deal last Friday evening but didn't mainly because it's 1.6L (and also because I was stretching too thin with the budget). Later the car had been sold for the original expected price of 4.95 million when I had made up my mind by Sunday morning:(
  16. Thank you very much for the valuable information Supra. It appears that FD4 is not such a bad proposition as a family car. I actually turned down the opportunity to buy a 2011 brand new imported well-equipped FD4 with only 11,000KM on the clock because it's got the smaller engine. Now I wonder whether I missed a worth-while opportunity
  17. Thanks Jaga for the information. In terms of performance, yes the FD4 is under-powered for a spirited driver(still FD4 is considerably faster than Axio/Allion A15).

Not the same Honda fan anymore but yes have to consider one due to FD1/FD4's versatile talents as a day-to-day family car and driving dynamics Are you sure about the fuel figures quoted for FD1? I don't have such high expectations for fuel economy from an FD1. Do you reckon FD4 is under-powered and therefore less fuel efficient? I don't think so because the power-to-weight ratios of FD4 exceeds that of Axio 1.5 and Allion A15 (both of which are considered adequately powerful to achieve optimum fuel consumption)
  19. Between similar speced and aged Honda Civic FD1(1.8) and FD4(1.6), which car fetches a better market price in Sri Lanka? Furthermore which car returns better fuel consumption (not that I care but I think this will have an impact on eventual market price).

  21. Stafford quotes 6.5kmpl upwards for FD1 in traffic. Staffords marketing staff is reputed for quoting very pessimistic fuel figures so reality should be better. But don't expect any closer to Toyota's with VVTi/CVT. I suppose the A18 would not do as good as Luxel. My friend's A15(240) returned 9kmpl in traffic, I don't expect A18's figure to be too far from it. From what I heard Luxel(122) would return in excess of 11kmpl in traffic.
  22. I have tested acceleration of an FD1 under hard throttle and although I have not driven A18, I have extensive experience driving a different Toyota car with CVT. Based on those two experiences I have a sneaky feeling that A18 would at least be faster to 100kph. (FD1 is only 4hp higher than A18. A18 is lighter of the two too) Apart from fuel consumption, I find the interior quality, refinement and space as advantages of Allion.

  24. Thanks for the information about ZRT prices. DSG is definitely way better than CVT. But how many bread and butter vehicles sold in Sri Lanka today has DSG? according to my knowledge NONE! Therefore I think it is incorrect to compare DSG vs. CVT in this context. CVT is a relatively inexpensive technology that delivers decent fuel consumption. I agree that rubber band effect found in CVT(worn clutch feeling) spoils driving pleasure but overall speaking I think the low down acceleration is better than regular 4spd and 5spd automatics found in direct competitors of bread and butter Toyota's.
  25. @jdnet: I understand what you mean. I am not trying to suggest in anyway that Allion A18 is a fast car in absolute terms. I am just comparing A18 and FD1. Allion is better built, more spacious, far more economical and seemingly faster in speeds accessible on most Sri Lankan roads(up to 100kph) than FD1. So I am trying understand why someone calls FD1 the better car.
