  1. Yes, for me the figures are more than satisfactory because the pleasure in driving is much more worth than a few kmpl which we would be spending for something else anyway. As you said, it is somewhat difficult to find even a 2.0L P11 let alone a 1.8L one. Consider yourself lucky if you could find a Camino for sale, since most owners who have one are very reluctant to sell theirs.. Regarding maintenance, you have nothing to worry as long as A*W are there. They have all necessary parts and the prices are not higher than for a average Sunny. Also their service is excellent and if you are a regular visitor there, you can look forward to some discounts on both parts and labour.. If you are not happy about the taking the car to the agents, then you can easily source your parts from places such as "Pi*ne*r M*t*rs".. That said, the car is not prone to regular breakdowns in any way, so nothing to worry mate.
  2. Well.. can't agree more since I have driven both fairly extensively.. The EK3 does not give that certain "oomph" when driving in comparison to a P11. My 1.8L manual does 8.5-9kmpl in Colombo and I measured a whooping 11.5kmpl on a trip to Peradeniya and back. Mind you the weather was extremely rainy and there were 5 people in the car..
  3. Tell me about it..
  4. WOW.. straight into the bookmarks..
  5. Primera P11 comes in two capacities... 1800CC and 2000CC. 1800 CC falls into the semi luxury category and the 2000CC falls into the luxury one.. Since the tax is payable only for the first 7 months upon 1st reg the period is now over.. Make sure to collect the tax receipts cos, you would not be able to register the car without them.. Regarding fuel efficiency, my P11 does 8.75-9.25km/l in Colombo rush hour driving.. And it did 11.5km/l on a trip to Kandy and back under rainy conditions.. Comparing the EK3 vs the Primera: Performance: Primera out does the EK3 in many ways. power, pick up, handling and the "thrill" is much better in the Primera Fuel efficiency: My bros EK3 does around 9.5-10km/l in general driving around Kalutara. Do not know the values for long distance travels Re-sell value: Both remain roughly stable without moving up or down too much.
  6. I think he can buy a really decent Camino and save quite a bit also from his budget of 1.6M since P11s hover around 1.3M-1.4M these days..
  7. Primera = Sunny ...
  8. Cograts MAZDAspeed.. Anyway who's next...? Any bets people..? Sri-Lankan population growth seems well looked after..
  9. Heard a presenter on a sinhala radio station speaking about these 5 adherances this morning.. hopefully the concept will gather steam.
  10. Cogratulations MDAZ.. All the best to all three of you.
  11. Why not the Primera..? A P11 suits all your requirements and is a really fun car to drive. You can easily find one newer than 97-98 for your range. Not many around for sale though.
  12. Aha.. When I went through all the threads relating to engine oil, the most recommended oil was the Mobil XHP.. Now you disagree and leaves me confused.. Does Mobil lose its viscosity under normal operating temperatures or at extreme conditions..? I was quite happy with BP until this issue came up and now want to give nothing but the best for my engine..
  13. Maybe the image was mirrored using photo-shop.... Nah.. the arrows on the road do not fit into that theory..
  14. Well.. mine has done only 123,000ks.. So not quite in the "old" category, I presume.. So switch to Mobil next time for sure.. Would there be any effect in switching to semi-synth from mineral.?? Also any one has any idea about flushing and whether clogging might happen..
  15. Yep, I too do not trust the Lanka oils that much.. Am planning to switch to Mobil at the next oil change.. I used BP-Visco 3000 earlier and the one put in this time is SAE40. Hope it is OK to switch to semi-synthetic from that..Got the oil filter replaced this time.. So that part is already done.. I was advised not to do a oil flush on the basis that it might clog the outlet from the sump to the engine, as the sump can not be cleaned completely once the sludge drains into it due to the flushing.. Any truth in that?? I am sure that there must be ways to completely clean the sump.. Where can I get this done around Colombo..?
  16. Well.. bringing back an old thread, I noticed that my oil level has gone down and a little bit thick after 3500ks since the last replacement.. Took the car straight to A*W and upon inspection it was discovered that a bit of oil was leaking from the tappet packing and also a little bit of sludge has formed.. Since I ran for about 5kms with my radiator malfunctioning last month, figured that might be the reason.. But, what the foreman who inspected the car told me was most interesting.. He says that BP which A*W uses causes sludge more than others and asked me to use Lanka Super and change every 2000ks until the sludge problem is mitigated.. I know that Mobil is highly recommended by most of you, but what are the pros and cons of running on Lanka Super.. According to the guys who attended to my engine, they have seen engines that are crystal clean even after 200,000 ks when they are running on Lanka.. Appreciate your views on this.. Is there really a big difference between Mobil and Lanka, except for the price. Honestly so far since yesterday I feel no difference between BP and Lanka..
  17. Don't know much about other models, but one of my relatives has a Mitsubishi mini cab.. Must say that it is quite good on reliability and maintenance aspects.. Never heard of a break down or repairs during the past two years.. Economy wise it does about 15kmpl and being a 600 something CC vehicle, it is no surprise. Have to admit though that it feels like you are driving a bullock cart after being used to the SR18DE engine... But once you hit about 50kmph, then the driving becomes much more smoother.. Some times I have felt that stability is a bit low under strong wind conditions near beach roads even though the low center of gravity of the vehicle suggests otherwise.. All in all can recommend the mini cab for someone who is looking for a family + delivery vehicle that does not give much headaches..
  18. Must be due to the current situation at the Ce*li*co group since this was operated by them.. Just guessing though..
  19. Don't think so.. Check this... http://www.dailymirror.lk/DM_BLOG/Sections...spx?ARTID=43535 PARK AND RIDE’ BEGINS WITH JUST TWO PASSENGERS The ‘Park and Ride’ service began its operation yesterday with just two passengers taking the service that was operated from Katubedde to Fort. However, the Manager of the Park and Ride complex, Mr. Sarath Gunawardene said it was too early to assess the service from the first day and he expected to have a better response after a month. At present the service operates from 6.30 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. on weekdays. A minimum of 6 buses would operate, leaving at 30-minute intervals. The service is an attempt to reduce the traffic congestion and number of vehicles in Colombo according to plans set out by the Mahinda Chinhanaya. “This is an extremely convenient service and it will really pick up within a month as people will become more accustomed to the idea,” said Chairman of the National Transport Commission Prof. Amal Kumarage who was at the ‘Park and Ride’ complex last morning. “This is a very convenient service to the people and we have made the buses extremely comfortable for them, since most persons using their own vehicles desire this comfort,” said the Manager of the complex Mr. Sarath Gunawardene. “This service also eliminates the hassle of having to drive in the congested streets all the way to Colombo and I am confident that many will utilise this service in the months to come,” he further added. Although many are critical whether the person would actually trade in the convenience and comfort of their private vehicles, the National Transport Commission seems confident the scheme would succeed. “Many people think that this is only for the talking and will not get off the ground. However, as soon as people come to know about it they will realise this is a reliable service. Thus to build the confidence of the people we will operate with a few people for at least a month,” said Mr. Kumarage. “When this picks up we will have buses leaving every 10-minute for the added convenience of the people,” he further said. Mr. Gunawardene elaborated on the other luxurious elements that will be incorporated into the service. “Right now we provide magazines and newspapers, but in future we hope to provide soft drinks and the like at a nominal fee,” he stated. The luxury 20-seat coaches would travel from Katubedde to Kollupitiya Junction, Dharmapala Mawatha and then proceed to Piththala Junction. The buses would then cross Nawam Mawatha at Slave Island and go past Air Force HQ to York Street ending up near the Clock Tower in Pettah. Returning, the bus would take the Duplication Road route up to Bambalapitiya. The service is aimed at mainly those who were using their own vehicles and the awareness among the general public was very low. Persons standing at the bus halt right opposite the complex were absolutely oblivious to the service. “I really don’t know what it is. I just saw the sign and it seems easier to use the bus than take that service,” said an elderly lady. ECD Global (PVT) Ltd., the transport providers for Sri Lankan Airlines conducts the service under the direction of the National Transport Commission. Declared open under the patronage of Minister of Transport Dallas Alahapperuma the service cost an initial sum of 10 million rupees. The complex of one acre was paved and lit using sky lights with the facilities of toilets.
  20. The price is Rs. 170 per head per trip... http://www.dailymirror.lk/DM_BLOG/Sections...spx?ARTID=43158 And this park is situated on the right hand side of the road, therefore vehicles coming along Galle Road have to take a U turn at the junction in front of Brandix to reach the park.. It is more like a park for cars traveling away from Colombo rather than coming in..
