Best reliable 4WD Truck or Ute in auto
john cooper replied to john cooper's topic in General Automotive
Thank you for your reply bro. The vehicle has to have 4WD, they still drive to the remote land that they hold onto. Wasn't able to find a good Ute with a TD therefore the QD model. N70 wasn't an option because Dad doesn't want Thai made, UK import Ute. Ha ha I know, he makes things bit complicated. -
Hi all Hope everyone is doing great! After years of trouble free motoring, my Dad ended up selling his trusty Hilux LN166 SR5 Wide Body (attached a photo), now in the market for a reliable Truck or a Ute. The only reason for him to part with his Hilux was that due to his age, he had bad left knee pain and it was getting worse after driving the manual Hilux. He is mainly looking at the KZJ95 Prado but so far he has had no luck with something to match his taste, his backup option is to go for a Nissan D22 with a QD32-T engine which he has found a true survivor with a genuine 200k on the clock. Dad has a 12 million budget to spend. Concerns: Fuel consumption: My experience with both models is 10 - 11KM/L here in NZ, but is it fair to say in SL they do about 8KM/L in the mix driving?? Spare Parts (engine, body, suspension, etc): I believe Prado parts (engine, body, suspension, etc) are widely available but I believe D22 parts are not that common?? Reliability: My experience is not bad with the 1KZ-TE and QD32-T but I have heard the QD32-ETI injector pump tends to fail and is not as reliable as the 1KZ-TE pump, any idea? Please share any of your thoughts, or experiences so I can point my Dad in the right direction since things are different in SL compared to where I live. P.S. He has an allergy to Taiwan Ute's and is scared to have too many sensors because he is old school π€©

When you wanted to be an suv,but mama said be a vanβ¦
john cooper replied to fiat fan's topic in MITSUBISHI
@fiat fan My Dad has been to the court due to the full crash bar. He used to carry a copy of the "Danda neethi sangarahaya" and the original Japanese car catalogue to show that the full crash bar is not something fitted at home. He was in luck for many years and his luck ran out when he met the correct police officer π€£ The officer took my Dad to the court for "ishta rupa" blah blah and filled a case against him, Dad lost the case and the judge gave the decision that it should be removed from the Van Sadly that was the case for our Full Crash bar. Congratulations mate I think it's time to change your name to Mitzifan or Delifan lol I had one of these in SL back in 2006, Dad ended up selling that back in 2014. Still I have a soft spot for a P25 A story about P25βs: One of the most underrated vans in SL glad to see it is getting the recognition it deserves. It is the best Van for camping, and overloading, and has lots of potential for lifting and modification for off-road use. I had an L400 and the later model D5, but the P25 is a different animal. I think this same body design came out in 1986 and I think up to 2015 or 16 with the legendary 4D56, 4G63 or 4D56T engine. Many trim levels and top of the line Star Wagon with Skylight roof and a hot and cool box. My P25 story: The Van changed my mind about a P25 57-52xx after test driving that van I tried to convince my Dad to buy that but he had no money for that, that was in 2001. Things changed by 2006 and was able to afford it, so wanted to buy the same 57- van but it has changed hands and the owner doesn't want to sell it. Checked dozens of them and set my mind on the GI 17xx Had a great time with it, we went around the country with the van and it has made it to places a van has never been to. Gone through 2 engines during our ownership. Ha ha Once it cracked the block and piston rod decided to come out to see the sunlight, haha that same engine gave up a year later and we change the engine to a Jap import It was a family van, daily for me, a party house and last it's a Fake Taxi haha Look after P25: Make sure to look after the cooling system if they get hot then the cylinder head doesn't like that. I would encourage you to change the cambelt along with the balance belt + water pump and thermostat. Blank the EGR Change the fixed front hubs to manual hubs, this will improve the fuel consumption slightly and loosen the steering (Pajero and L200 hubs are a direct fit) Happy motoring @fiat fan -
Got this same model given by my neighbour, he has too many so he gave me one of them. He has replaced the steel pipe with a Flexi horse, I think it is a Brake hose so that allow me to reach narrow places. Ha ha

Any of them in Sri Lanka??

I was expecting this to be hard but you made it easy mate. I think I have made the mistake of getting the line from the headlight to the fender to give a clue. Bloody legend! GWM Tank 300 Hybrid model is currently available for us to purchase for the price equivalent to 12 mil SL rupees, which is a bargain for what this model offers but this is Gen 1 and we learned from the hard way by purchasing Gen 1 Chinees vehicles. (BYD ATTO 3) So everyone is waiting for Gen 2 TANK as we can't see them on the road even 6 months after the official launch to the market.

Nissan Avenir Salut One of my JKCS mates had the diesel version of Gen 1 about 20 years back and it was running on a CD20 diesel Turbo engine. Absolute s*it box. Ha ha

Hyundai Engine vs Toyota Engine
john cooper replied to Shazly Suhair's topic in Feedback & Suggestions
I am sure you are missing a good technician to rectify the issue. Honestly speaking, I don't see much of a point in replacing it with a Genuine engine, since no one is sure where is the problem. What happens if you will get the same issue after replacing the engine?? I am not in Sri Lanka, so I am out of contact with the reputed technicians, especially for Korean made cars. Hope someone will be able to help by recommending a place for you to diagnose the problem. my gut feeling with your car issue is to do with the transmission (based on your information from the 1st 2 posts) Regards, JC -
Hyundai Engine vs Toyota Engine
john cooper replied to Shazly Suhair's topic in Feedback & Suggestions
I do understand your frustration! I think the main focus is to figure out if the overheating is caused by the engine or the transmission, don't underestimate, auto transmission boxes create a lot of heat, especially when they are slipping/ under heavy load. I have had an Isuzu doing something the same which ended up with faulty transmission causing the engine to overheat. "reconditioned" word used in SL incorrectly for parts used in Japan. That's BS to me when some part sellers on the Island mentioned "reconditioned" ππ Do you know if the head gasket is not leaking? Have you tested the engine with a professional? I would encourage you to get it checked, with an expert before make any other changes. Regards, JC -

Not sure how you have lived with this same issue for 4 years! Are the radiator fans working as they should? Is the transmission used for the conversion driven in SL or driven in another country? Do you know where is the auto transmission cooler located, (track down the 2 lines coming from the transmission) If the transmission cooler is located at the bottom tank of the radiator, as a cheaper option you can try adding an external transmission cooler and see if the issue is going settle? (won't cost a fortune) Regards, JC -
Hi, I am sure this is a CR2x/3x variant, so lift the passenger seat to access the engine compartment (You will notice a side of the engine, look towards the transition tunnel from the passenger side and you should notice a "Red" handle looks like a T (may or may not have a side lock to press and pull) - Another option is to crawl from the bottom of the gearbox and locate the pipe from the bottom if you really can't see the dipstick. The heater pipe gets bypassed for a few reasons in SL. - Heater core started leaking, since SL is a tropical country, no use for the heater - The heater flap won't close so hot air mix with cold air from AC. - Some "Maka Bass" doesn't like the heater concept at all, so they made the owners mind to bypass the heater for no real reason. Good luck! Regards, JC.

Best to stay away from Volvo's as your 1st car, with Volvo's you will get the safety but NOT the reliability. I don't think this is to do with the manufacturer, this is more to do with the lack of maintenance. regards, JC

Nissan Bluebird u13 fuel consumption, good and bad
john cooper replied to Dilshan2123's question in Car Buying Information
Sorry mate, I am not owning a Bluebird π, what I wanted to say is that I have found the same model that you owned in SL here in NZ. I use to see a few ARX's on the road but it is a bit hard to find them here but still very easy to find U13's with wreckers. Due to strict regulations, it is easy/ cheap to send the old car to wreckers and get a new car. regards, JC- 45 replies
