STI 7 onwards came with brembos (GD body). The 4,5,6 STI RA (2 door race spec) had brembos as optional...

Congrats Buddy! Like you, i have great appreciation for the classic GC8- far more raw and uninhibited than the models that followed... What's great is that only the STI 5 and (UK) RB5 came in the "steel blue" colour...but sounds like you're way ahead of me on the power band! Noticed that the front bumper has been modified to accomodate the FMIC- or was it an aftermarket addition? Compared to your car, the previous owner of mine stuck to simple changes like MRT 3" decat end-to-end exhaust and front antilift kit. Everything else is STI accessorized. I'm lucky in that in the 8+ years he used the car, it only had 28k kms! So there's a lot more life left in the car (hopefully!). Let me know if you're looking for any supplemental data on GC8s.... Good luck and Cheers to some good B-road/Track driving!

Cheers mate- remind me next week... Is the B4 yours? Hadn't seen the car before in the lot...did a quick once over.

Thanks Devinda. Most Certainly! I'd really appreciate anything that i can use as historical documentation - [email protected] thanks!
-
Yep, thats the same car folks. Not sure about the record setting history (although i believe the current record holder is Nishan in his former 9GT...) Devinda- do you have the full res. pic? Or would anyone know where i can find it?

As Pila mentioned, the Adrenalins ARE about 20k a piece right now. I hope the prices drop after the GIII is phased out completely- however it still won't be as cheap. That said, there is a Thai version called the MY01, which is very similar to the GIII and while its not all-out hardcore, might be a good substitute- especially from a finance angle...

Clutch Difference Between Petrol & Diesel
gunat replied to Iroshana's question in Mechanical problems
Definitely- load bearing specifically, since diesel has far more torque than a petrol engine. You'll find the clutch/pressure plate to be a whole lot more heftier than the petrol equivalent. -
You will have to check on the alloy offset in the 5-series. This is basically where the centre of the alloy rim wheel will be in respect to the actual mounting hub. If i'm not mistaken, the E46 has less offset than the the 5 series, so there's the possibility of fouling your brake calipers. Best thing is to check the user manual and refer against the M3 stock rims. If it looks alright, no harm in trying it out...

You can't go wrong either way- both vendors are good. Yeah, the girl who answers the phone at GilCo isn't the most enthusiastic- but nothing a visit to the showrooms can't remedy. What kind of speakers will you install if you go to Ad*ance?
-
You could give GilCo a call too- they will fax the price list to you, if requested.

Guys, just to give you an idea of how much i spent: Front DLS Classic K6 Component speakers (6.5" round, 16mm Tweeter; 80W max power; with integrated crossover) Rear DLS Classic 226 (2 way; Also 6.5"; 80W Max; with integrated crossover) with installation came to abt 22k, including new wiring etc. I've lost the price list they sent me, but if i recall correctly, they have a 6x9 for around 12-14k from the classic range.
-
Only the high-end DLS units are expensive- but they have a range called "Classic" which pretty much rivals JBL, Infinity and other known brand units. Price is very reasonable if you ask me, when you consider sound quality- i could have gone for the higher end stuff, but reviews pointed to the fact that unless i'm an audiophile, not worth the expense. I'm very, very happy with the end result. On the agents- they have a great range, and most importantly their service and installation are impeccable. No shoddy workmanship like one of the other 'popular' stores mentioned in the thread here. The installers are very respectful of the car (take off their footwear before getting in!) and clean up properly once the work is done. Although i didn't negotiate or indicate that i was iffy about pricing, they gave me a discount, which was a pleasant surprise when i got the bill. All in all, a good place to go i think. I'm told that Ad*ance comes close to same kind of service, and i believe they carry a wider range of the known brands. B*ra carries the beautiful (expensive!) Nakamichi Head units- brilliant quality and sound; but mainly for low volume music; they certainly don't do the ghetto blasting stuff. BTW- i had JBL GTO 6x9's on my previous car- and Kim can attest to how good they sound. Head unit was a pioneer- can't go wrong with most of their stuff, except the lower grades... The research you're doing now will pay off later, for sure...

DLS are swedish- thats the same country B&W loudspeakers, Audio Pro, Procella come from. Scandanavians know their sound... Also, theres no harm in starting small- why not invest in speakers first, then progress to Amps, Subwoofer, etc? If 50k is your total budget currently; you might be a little cash strapped for the Amp.
-
Going to throw a spanner in the works. I've avoided getting an Amp etc in my last few cars; and have instead installed good quality speakers. So far, its worked- mainly because i'm not a bass maniac. Usually my head unit ends up as Pioneer or anything with a MOFSET amp. Speakers are JBL/Infinity/Rodek. Being as you're on a budget but looking for some really good quality sound, try DLS speakers. (Are you thinking "wtf is DLS?")- look them up. They are specialist manufacturer that have been winning Sound competitions in Europe/US. http://www.dls.se/en/car/index.html http://www.gilbertlk.com/html/index.htm Gilbert & Sons are the local agents- drop by and see what they have; i'm not sure of the prices, but its worth the extra effort. I took a chance and installed their basic component speakers and rear speakers (both round, as i didn't want to cut anything in the car). Sound is excellent- especially at low volume. No harm in maximizing research before spending your money- they also do subwoofers and amps. good luck.

Would a Ferrari Owner drop off his invaluable car at a cornerstreet garage for an oil change? (Take a look at the surroundings, doesn't look that great an area) I suspect that this car is a replica- a good one at that. Since the F40 was so hard to come by (5 year waiting list at time of announcement); lots of rich Arabs commissioned replicas. Would be interesting to find out, either way...

Thanks Seeker...i think i can figure the rest out...

Any words from our Forum Honda Owners?
-
Thanks- however, there is one distinct difference with the UK civic...its different from the Asian model, being as its made in the UK. Can't be sure if the Thai Civic suffers the same fate, but i'm willing to bet they have different suspension setups. But i know that even the previous Civic was also a bit stiffer than the average, having driven one. That said, if anyone can comment on the service at Stafford, please share....

Ok- first off, i don't want any brand bashing on this thread. I'm looking for some basic opinions on two cars we now have on the local market. A non car-techie friend is looking to buy a new set of wheels (brand new). Question 1. New Lancer- Apart from Velocity, has anyone had any interaction with the new car? New Civic- this is a great looking car, apart from the loopy dashboard... A few things i've found so far: Lancer is 1.5l vs 1.6 for Civic; no semi-luxury tax thus Both cars are similarly equipped (Almost all options, Automatic, CD player, etc) Lancer is made in Japan vs. Civic is Thai, i believe. Lancer is about 100k cheaper. Question 2. After sales service (especially maintenance, quality of workmanship, etc)- how is Stafford vs. Unimo? thanks
-
When you say the car is 3 weeks old, i'll assume you mean brand new- If you bought the car from Toyota L*nka, they have a grooming service that could include a cut/polish. Else, any reputed detailing centre can help you (as already mentioned)- to add: Pit St*p Auto M*raj Prime A*to Dr.Pa*nt good luck

Its the standards certification by American Petroleum Institute... Here's a link for everything you ever wanted to know about Engine Oil: http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html Also, i don't agree in skimping on synthetic oil- it may cost a lot more, but there is a noted difference in how much more quieter, smoother an engine will be. Again, it all depends on your pocket and how you choose to maintain your car...

My 2c worth- traditionally, i've relied on the fogs/driving lights to light up the ground immediately in front of the car over a wider crosssection, whereas the headlights are for front-distance visibility... Found it particularly relevant on unknown-bad roads, so as to avoid any obstacles that aren't as obvious with the headlights. My daily driving takes me out of Colombo on poorly lit roads- and with kamikaze objects such as dogs ('intercoolers' as Evilmak calls them), drunks/dumb people- i've found that fogs give that extra kudos with visibility. Probably not as relevant for colombo, except for potholes, perhaps. I guess there is some degree of 'posing' that goes along with having your fogs on, as it differentiates your car from the average.i for one, take notice when i see a vehicle with the fogs on- just to see it may be.

Throttlebody Cleaning@home. Is This Possible?
gunat replied to priya's question in Mechanical problems
And there you go- i stand corrected! Thanks Maithri, for the clarification... -
Thanks Maithri- noted! The timing belt change is explicitly noted in the User Manual for your car. Typically, most japanese cars say before 100k (kms). I've traditionally changed at 80-90k, to be on the (very) safe side. Timing chain adjustments are best left to the agents, or professionals. Not a DIY job unless you have the know-how and tools.
