Unfortunately this is the story for all japanese used cars...The prices keep going up....no matter how is the reduction in tax.
-
Yes Tiida is a smaller car compared to Bluebird Sylphy. I think Tiida is similar to Yaris or Belta in Toyota range, but less popular in Sri Lanka than those toyata cars. I saw Tiida is advertised in few places and can be brought to Colombo for CIF around Rs 1 million. This is much less than Belta.
-
Are you going to order the car now? If it is 2007/03, the car has to loaded to the ship before end of this month, isn't it? You need to be careful and be assured that this can be done prior to placing the order. Correct me if I am mistaken here.

This may not be directly related to the topic, but I think Nissan Tiida also comes with 1500CC and does much more than Sylphy on fuel. Wonder why Tiida is not that popular in Sri Lanka.

I am not sure about the Yaris mate. But I recently checked total tax for a Toyota Belta 1300CC 2007/6 car. This is around Rs. 16.5 lackhs. I hope the tax would be same for Yaris as well. Please correct if I am wrong.

Are these amounts still valid? Any changes with the appreciation of JYen?

Just heard from an uncle working for a clearing agent that the new taxes will come in to effect in the coming week itself. Great news...hope it will come true.

Sri Lanka's used car market is never predictable...But one thing is sure...no matter how much is the tax reduction from the govt...the end user is not getting the same benefit...it is lost somewhere either in Jap auction or with the middle man...I don't know who is to blame...My personal opinion is as soon as you find a car that suit your budget...just go ahead and buy it before you loose the opportunity. The Axio that was selling at around 3.5 mn about one month back is now going above 4 mn.

This was going around 2.5mn couple of weeks back. Now that the news comes about the further tax cut, can we expect the prices to come down?
-
Your comment demonstrates the common man perception on the subject. The reason is that Sri Lankan and Pakistan markets are concentrated on a small section of brands, models, YOM and etc in the Japanese car export market. Take Toyota AXIO for a example. There is a huge demand for AXIO 2007/2008 cars in Japan simply because there is a high demand from Sri Lanka and Pakistan. You will not notice a similar increase in demand for other vehicles such as Nissan, Mazda etc.

If the government is already making enough money through the increased tax revenue, I don't see why they are thinking of a further reduction. May be they are being greedy and wanting to make more and more revenue from vehicle import tax. What I am concerned is that whether this anticipated further reduction (if actually given) will eventually benefit the actual buyer. The car prices in Japan has already risen due to increased demand from Sri Lanka, Pakistan and etc. So with this news, I guess we will have more people holding onto there decision to buy a new car until the reduction is materialized. So eventually when they are ready to import a car, the prices of used cars in Japan may have gone up to sky heights thus not getting the benefit of the further tax reduction.

By the way do we have any other first hand experience on the fuel economy of Vitz KSP 90, 1000CC?
-
Yes I also noticed a rapid increase in unreg car prices recently...Yet I saw some of the guys in the forum still recommend to wait and see if the prices will come down...considering the apprciation of JYen and car prices in Japan I don't think it is a good option.
-
Can you really get 18 Km / L in Vitz KSP 90 (1000CC)? That is too good to beleive. Any other Vitz users that we have in the Forum who can confirm this? I think the price for Vitz 2007 KSP 90 will be around 2.5 Mn. Right?

I heard a car sale guy in the recent Sirasa Auot vision programme claiming that Axio was one time going around 5.8 million before tax and now it has come down in the range of 4.5-4.8 million. Of course the car sales will sell after keeping few lakhs as thier profit. So I guess if you manage to find a X grade Axio for around 3.8 million, you are lucky?

Hello buddies. I am thinking of buying a Toyota Axio 2007 (Corolla 141). I want to know how good is this vehicle in terms of fuel consumption? Is it better than Corolla 121? Also is there anybody who has recently cleared this car from Customs? I want to know how much will be the total tax for this car with standard accessories that fall into the last lap of depreciation (3-31/2 years). Also what is the best market price of this car in Sri Lanka? Cheers...

I think what you have said here is quite true...I was personally doing some research on these two cars and the prices that you have quoted above are pretty much in line with current market prices. -

Are you in the real world mate? I hope the prices will come down. But can you suggest me any place where I can buy a Toyota Belta 1.3-G 2007 for less than Rs. 800,000 CIF to Colombo? The tax for this car would be minimum Rs. 1.5Mn. So according to your calculation we should buy this car for a maximum price of Rs. 600,000 from the exporter (CIF Colombo price) in order to settle at the total cost of Rs. 20-21 lakhs. I think your values are pretty optimistic. I would suggest the best buying price would be around Rs. 2.5 - 2.7 Mn for this car considering current market conditions. -
I have been using a Pajero IO 1998 for more than 2 years now. No complians...just the regular maintenance only.
