If it really is a cracked chasis, then you do have a very serious problem. But don't take any outside Garage's word for it, take it to A*W, they will put the car up and check, then you can see for yourself too. All the best.
-
Yes, that's what I heard too, apparently it's harder to buy the engine, gearbox, ecu and wire harness only nowadays so they just buy a whole car and send only the necessary parts. Maybe the cost will be less if one can find only the needed parts?

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. BTW, was your car an AWD sports version? I never thought of doing this conversion before but frankly, Nirosh's car has impressed me a lot, in terms of performance. He quoted 600k for all the engine and components as his cost. When you add the base car's price, and compare that with what a type-r conversion would cost, they are quite similar in final cost. You just get a faster car albeit, one which is not very practical as a daily driver because of the awful fuel consumption in these cars (4-5 km/l), whereas as a type-r would be quite a good daily use car and I am told the fuel milage is good if used carefully.

Actually I am considering doing a STI conversion... is it a good idea though? the base car and the engine + components are fairly reasonable in terms of cost, but what's the downside (other than the fact that the car will become very expensive to run and maintain, which I am prepared to live with). I mean are there any other better options in terms of getting a really fast car at a cheaper cost? I was planning to look for a Civic hatch and do a typr-r conversion but that's expensive, both the base car and the engine etc, Subaru seems more reasonable, but there is a catch (or three) I am sure...

Any idea how much a similar Imreza CS (19-) would go for now?

Just as an aside, who's this dude Fernandopulle? is he for real? over to you sir, if appropriate, and no offence meant (just thought I'd that, looking at the way this thread has gone )

Did the Autozam have the same (BP) engine that was used in the Miata? I've always wondered what parts if any, are similar between an Autozam and a Miata. My first car was a Doctor Sunny! Utterly boring, also utterly reliable, I treated it like shit yet it gave no trouble. Never got emotionally attached to her though; then I bought an old Merc, lots of problems, but love at first start

You know what, that's exactly what I want to do but WHERE? wait don't tell me, opposite Pila, on saturday night, right?

I looked all over in the Phone book and Googled for 'N motorsports' to contact them regarding a new modifying project, I can't find them, is it ok to post contact info on this forum, if so, please do so, will be most obliged, thanks! Or just tell me where they are, so I can visit them.

Thanks Fuzzo; it's just a humble Miata :-)

One other criteria I could add: personally speaking, if I build a draggable car, I will also use it as a daily driver as I can't afford to have one car just for fun and another for daily use. So a NEWER car (with four doors) will score more points as a base for a drag racer for me personally than say an early 90s 2 door hatch. So if the base car is from a (relatively) recent year and is a 4 door, I would prefer it over an older car, even if the car is a bit more/ HP gain a bit less. I know, I am compromising, but hey, we can't all have all we want
-
But is the Civic the BEST base to build a 'draggable'? I suppose the criteria (this being SL) would be: 1. Cost of base car (with Civic, less than 1M) 2. Cost of engine, other conversion parts+labor 3. How much horsepower could be gained Based on the above, I guess we could determine (scientifically!) which car is the best for modification, and lay rest to all Civic 'myths', if that is the case
-
Pilawoos Kollupitia?
-
Maybe I shouldn't be asking this question in public, but where will be the drags be? Me, I dont have any flying machine, just a humble Jap convertible , but really would love to watch you guys go at it. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to send me a personal messsage? THANKS

I am new to Honda but am really interested in getting one; I just wondered; if I were to buy a normal Honda saloon or hatch VTEC (for say 1m) then import a type-R or similar engine from Japan (plus wire harness, ecu, gearbox, anything else necessary) from Japan, how much is the cost approximately I am looking at for the engine conversion? I guess some of you have done this or similar, in which case, what is the engine most popular for this kind of hot-rodding in SL? costs? Who are the more reliable engine importers in SL? Any threads in this forum about past conversions done by you guys?
-
Huh?.. taking what? yes, one may need to take something very strong before paying so much for a car
-
Yeah, Clarkson said that, and just about everyone else agrees that the Cayman is about the best car that Porsche has ever built. The thing with the 911, is because of the 2+2 seats, the engine is not right in the perfect place, it is quite far back, hence the balance is not perfect. In the boxster the engine is in exactly the right place but it is a convertible, which requires some compromises to ensure safety etc. Enter the Cayman, just the 2 seats like a boxster, but with a hardtop, and more power than a Boxster (but less than a 911). I read in Autocar a comparison between Merc SLAMG, new Audi RS and one other car, the Cayman was the least powerful car of the lot, but came out on top. Costs just the 18mil though
-
I think you are the first one to sight the new Cayman S that's just been imported, it is a 2 seat coupe and has a shorter backside than a 911.
-
Jeez, my list of Porsches in SL is seriously outdated then
-
Can one really get a modified Civic with English numbers for 1.35mil? I quite be tempted to think about joining the Honda Bandwagon in that case...
-
Maybe there was some exchange involved, the price he was asking in cash was far too much for that car. Anyway good for Ravi that he's sold it.
-
I wish these dudes in SL who own these 911s would actually, once in a while, do the unthinkable and actually DRIVE their cars on the raod, rather than keep them locked up
-
My bad, there isn't a single "959" in SL, that's for sure, as the 959 was an ulta rare limited production car, I got it confused with the 944 Yes, there is only 996 that has been officially imprted by the agents, same with the 993, that's all the 911s in SL as far as they agents are concerned, but I know for a fact there are a few more cars, but older models, I am not entirely sure if any of them are 911s, the only one I've seen (and driven) is that awful 944S2. I edited my post, I think it was 'Pilawoos' who mentioned taking on the Porsches in his SOHC, the silver car you mentioned was the current model normal Boxster that is now on sale, that has around 240BHP, how much BHP did your car have? anyway very impressive. I think the other car could also be a Boxster, not a 911. The 911s looked nearly the same as the Boxster and cost 4 times as much, so not many people bought them.
-
The 996 (the outgoing version of the 911, current 911 is the 997) and the Boxter have the exact front, they share about 50% components, I believe. Considering there is only one 996 in Sri Lanka ( owned by the MD of Lanka Aluminium) and the fact that car is in pristine condition, these body parts could have been brought to repair one of the 5 or 6 boxters in SL, some of which I know to have had body panels etc replaced. How much were they asking and how long ago was this? what garage exactly? As far as I know the following are all the Porsches currently in SL: Boxter: first gen 5-6 cars (all normal, no S cars) Boxter: current gen: 1 car (silver, currently on sale for 11m) 996 1 car, convertible, number 301-? 993 (previous 911 before 996) 1 car, 300-? Cayenne 2 or 3 including an S! There are some 944 and older models cars imported personally on permits etc but they look way different to the current Porsches, so they can't be confused with the Boxster and 911. In fact one 944 S2 (white) sold for close to 1m, but that was a left hand drive converted car in poor condition. BTW, the Maroon 301 Boxster was bought by who? that car had a slightly dodgy rep
-
They (Milroy and others) weren't referring to the inevtibale engine rebuild at 200k or whatever, they were talking about RECURRENT, RUNNING repairs and replacement of parts, which are very costly, even if done via Milroy, Gawd only knows how much the company will charge. I even thought of buying a company maintained car that has ALREADY had these repairs done, the logic being that once they are done, then I won't need to worry about them. No such luck, even such cars are known to develop problems. What gave me the jitters mostly was when the sales guy at the company claimed 50,000 miles was high milage for this car; I've been using Merc W124 diesels for the last 4 years, with those 100,000 km (50k miles) is just like a new car! Finally, I thought I'd stick with my old Merc
