    Prestige Vs. Milroy

Hi Guys, Milroy's a decent guy. Used to take my E46 320d to him many years ago. Decent service and good advice. The only pain was hauling all the way to his garage which is fairly far out and when it rains that whole blasted road goes under and I mean really under - once brought the car out with water midway up the buffer. When I got the 318i I sort of moved to Prestige (actually on milroys advice as the car was fairly new at the time and he advised me to keep the record there) I guess things have changed now as the car is a little older. However his prices while they are cheaper on the non genuine bmw stuff are not all that cheap. Found that bringing the genuine stuff down from UK was waaay cheaper - and was better for peace of mind as well. Miniace thats really expensive - was this for a E90 ? And were you doing a full DME re-program to the asian software spec or were you changing options ? I know that Prestiege just got down a new programming setup (the latest ISTA-P which is required for all the new cars) and it cost them plenty but I've never heard them ask for so much. When I got my current car and wanted to install the OBD stalk ..etc milroy actually advised me to go to Prestige as he would have had to charge me 12k for the reprogram as his diags unit was bought in partnership with a chap in Germany and he needed to pay him some amount each time he used it. Prestige actually charged me only 1250 bucks to do the job. Since then got my own BMW DIS and programmed all the self leveling Xenons, rain & light sensor ..etc at home. What did Milroy use to program the car. Was it a Yellow Head DIS or the newer Orange Head ? Was told that the newer BM's require a Fibre Optic interface for programming. Just my 2 cents. Cheers, MadMMx
  4. I'm also good with this. As an added bonus will bring the BMW DIS Diagnostics along as well Cheers,
  5. Hi JD, Think you're mistaken. I got the injectors of the BM cleaned ultrasonically last year for 3.5k Removed them myself took them got them cleaned and refitted them myself though. Pretty decent job and instant boost on power and economy. The BM manual only recommends ultrasonic cleaning and specifically advises against using additives (which also puts your warranty at risk apparently if you have one) On most cars taking the injectors out isn't really a big deal. Just my 2 cents. Cheers, MadMMx
  6. Also if you have access to anti-seize paste - you need to put a bit of the grey stuff on the threads. Otherwise its going to be painful the next time you want to remove them. On the wiring - the o2's generally have two parts - one is the sensor itself and the 2nd part is the inbuilt heater that turns on during cold start to ensure you're getting proper readings - generally find that the heater element part of the o2 is the first to fail but doesn't mean that its a total failure - only that you will get crappy burn till the sensors warm up.
  7. Guys, The new BMW 4 pot 2 litre has a twin scroll turbo charger that gives 13km's per litre and has a peak power output of 240 BHP. Its to be rolled out subsequently this year !! refer https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/pressclub/p/us/pressDetail.html?outputChannelId=9&id=T0099935EN_US&left_menu_item=node__2223 Cheers,

    Bmw 320D To 330I

Don't forget all the computers (DME), Immobiliser (EWS) and keys from the donor car. Its pretty difficult to try to match up the EWS and DMS from two cars (not possible in SL - need overseas help) so therefore you will also need all the locks (door / boot / cubby / ignition barrel) from the donor car as well. Also as the diesel is a much heavier car all the suspension from the donor / stabilizer bars / diff / prop shaft ...etc .etc .etc - the list goes on. Probably best to get the meter console and light control module as well. In the E46's the mileage of the car is stored in multiple computers - ie the meters / the light control module / the DME .. and if one of these mismatch a red dot appears on the meters to indicate that the mileage of the car has been tampered with. Hope this helps. Cheers, MadMMx

    Bmw E46 Alloy's

Not really but since the M's and new bm's do come with the staggered wheels thought I'd give it a shot No issues at all. Car grips like glue around the bends. Look on the inside edge of the drivers side door - it lists that sizes you can use.The advantage of the larger size is the additional ground clearance. It really helps !! car doesn't look too bad at all as well. Also don't worry too much about the speedo calibration. Most of the tyres sizes recommended are very similar in size. If there is an issue there t there is an option in the BMW DIS diagnostics to calibrate the speedo where u have to specify the wheel size as well so no worries. Cheers, MadMMX

    Bmw E46 Alloy's

Hey RR, The last time I went to MXLXXX many moons ago he told me that the 205/55/16's were the steel wheel size Since upgraded to 225/55/16's on the rear and 215/55/16's on the front. Super grip. Went with bridgestone potenza adrenalin's for the lot. Super grip. Though the previous Yoko ES100's were probably better on grip they tend to wear out super fast. Added benefit of getting about 1 - 1 1/2 inches of ground clearance for the car. Also don't forget to get your alloys straightened out and balanced once in a while. The original bmw alloys are a little soft and tend to go out of shape easily. However they are pretty good quality and can be straightened easily. Just finished swapping my lower arms and track rods and am getting the alloys straightened and balanced along with the wheel alignment checked this weekend on my e46. Cheers,
  11. I'm in - can probably get another 3 e46 owners in as well

    Bmw X1 Vs 318D

Just my two cents - been using euro's for over 6 years (and that's not counting the mini that's been with my family since 1960) and they've never let us down. So far I've been through 2 bm's both diesel and petrol & my bro's also got a bm. True that they need a little more TLC than your jap counterpart but the ride and drive make up for that in buckets. Cheers, MadMMx
  13. 1. No - If you get your parts down from abroad - it actually can be on par if not cheaper Service is long - ie once a year for most 2. No - Didn't have any issues here 3. The driving pleasure alone makes up for any niggles you may have along the way. Euro's need to be looked after unlike the japs that can be thrashed around. The driving experience is totally different and the toys you have in these cars are unheard of in the jap world (A/C, PS, PM, 4+ airbags are all standard :) ) Cheers,
  14. Some of these cars have had jap compressors plugged into them due to the high cost of the bm ones. Usually the capacity of those is a little inadequate in comparison to the original one. When you start the car and turn the a/c on listen for a gasping noise inside the car - Also the ac cooler repair is a messy (and pricey) one as the whole dashboard has to be removed to get at it. Correct about the ccv filter as well - a thing ignored by a lot of people - the same ccv or pcv on the petrol's applies across the board to all e46's.
  15. Pretty Decent car. Had a 65-XXXX before moving to a petrol facelift. Super diesel mileage and the service interval is about 14k kms. The only thing you need to be careful of is the condition of the turbo. Otherwise mileage wise these are rock solid and rumor has it that you can do 200k before needing to touch the engine. Also check the condition of the aircon. Prices are also a little down but not by much more than before. Cheers, MadMMx
  16. Hi, Believe there is a VAG (VW / Audi / Skoda) Parts catalog dvd downloadable from the Internet. Search a few of the warez sites for VAG parts dvd. Shouldn't be too hard to find but its also quite large I believe. Cheers, MadMMx
