Well I think that they won't. Times have changed. They need to be truly special to make the cut.

Other Brits, 1. MGF 2. XKR 3. TVRs?
-
Yes yes. Near our house. he's the guy who first imported an X 1/9 and the Renault 5 Turbo 2 - the midengined one Will make inquiries and see....

Is the new one all new underneath? If it's a careful eveolution of the previous STis, then I don't see a prob. The blueprint is already classic Imho. Having driven just a 1.5R hatch I can safely say it's the best drivers car in the class in SL, Golf, Civic, Bravo, Mazda 3 included. I have yet to drive the new Lancer but I doubt it will top the Subaru. If only they hired a designer who coul stay awake..............

Oh no no no. Not us. It's a v wealthy guy who has a couple of Porsches, An SL among others. Seems to have got a Fiat bug all of a sudden. He's bought a mint Fiat 1100 a month ago.....

Ha ha no. I left out some dogs. No Fiat Tipo, Tempra Chroma, No Lancia Dedra and Delta 2. No Alfa 146 and the regular 147, 156, 164, 166 etc. Oh certainly no Alfa 90 and Arna No Fiat Stilo and Brava/o either... Oh I can make the list very long.,...

Of course!! And it's my favourite Audi as well

Maithri we are talking FUTURE classics and trying to predict. Many future classics go for scrap value now. The trick is to be able to predict. One of my friends sold an MGA for Rs. 10,000 in the early 90's!!!!!! The 406 Coupe is there in my list BX GTi was a cracking drivers car at the time. And the styling was ahead of it's time. And it's ability was heavily under-rated. XM will be very rare and will follow the CX which is starting to get collected now............. They are still searching for a new DS but this is as close as they've gotten. Avantime was a very brave move that the market wasn't ready for. The last time Renault defined a new ganre it was the Espace and Scenic. All other manufacturers followed soon after. Eventhough the Dodge/Chrysler pre-dated the Espace. 206??? What's special about that? It just look cute and that's it.

Hey KLM have you missed my Jap list?? It's further above. EK9 was really nothing special. It was heavier than the GTi6, 145 and god forbid the Mk 4 Golf which was also quite a barge disguised as a hot hatch. Further more the EK9 handling has never been highly rated. Fiat Coupe is a regular in Classic Car mags already usually compared with the Corrado and 200SX. M-Coupe is tipped to be highly collectible and it wasn't a commercial success so it will be rare while it has the M3 engine - rated as the best 6 in the world. 155Q4 has the same running gear as the Delta Integrale which is already a classic. In a way its an Integrale sedan. Besides the 155 utterly wiped the opposition in the BTCC, ETCC and DTM which had very big budget manufacturers like BMW, Mercedes among many others. Most people agree it was the most dominant era of a single brand in the recent past. There are loads of guys who think the 156 is too soft for them and love the hardcore nature of the 155. They are the ones who'll treasure their Q4s and even V6 Ti s and bring them out when the dust has settled into layers.

German, 1. All Merc SLs? 2. CL for sure 3. E46 M3 and M3 CSL 4. Merc 300E W124 (I'm thinking the 500E already is...) 5. Z3 M-coupe 6. Z8. 7. Audi S8 8. RS models. 9. Golf 3 VR6 10 Golf 5 GTI 11. Merc CLS? I'm leaving out all Porsches as I did with Ferrari, Masrers and Lambos for the obvious reason.....

Italian 1. All Abarths 2. Alfa 75 3. 164 and 166 V6s 4. Alfa GTV and Spider (916 series) 5. Lancia Delta HF Turbo (lesser bro of the Integrale) 6. Fiat Coupe 7. Fiat Barchetta 8. Fiat Uno Turbo and Lancia Y10 Turbo. 9 Alfa 145 CloverLeaf 2.0TS 10. 147 and 156 GTAs 11. 155 Q4s

I thought that the top of the range of that Cosmo had a Rotary engine. I could be wrong..... The styling is quite intriguing though very 80s
-
I wonder what happend to the XT that used to be in my home town Kotahena......must check it up. I knew the guy who imported it. The SVX was brilliant GT. I think the styling was too futuristic and the Subaru badge really could not mix with the 3 point star, blue propellor or the leaping cat. I recall a twin test by a Brit mag that pitched it against a Jag XJS and the Sub won!!
-
True but they need to be technically advanced for their time don't you think? The Swift did not push the envelope at all. Grande Punto is better looking too and the 206 still looks good but they will not make the cut as well. Maybe the original Smart is a better candidate....?
-
Oops yes I forgot the CRX. But I'd bet only on 1 and 2 only. Mitsu 3000GT was not that great a car. Very heavy as Devinda pointed out and didn't budge the soul one bit. But I also forgot the Daihatsu Cherade GTti. It was a cracking car wasn't it. The fastest 1 litre car at that time or something like that.... How about the Isuzu Piazza Turbo? I always like it. I see one with a 65- number Talking of the brand does anyone know if any Isuzu 117 coupes made it to SL? I'd love to get my hands on one. Like the Piazza it was styled by Giugiaro and the late versions had a 1.8 twin cam that produced 140bhp!! That's modern specific output!!!

HellRazor I'm sorry but I can't agree with any of your list. All those cars will end up bangers. The Cefiro is a boat and will never make the cut. These are all highly mass produced cars, so the chances are very slim. Maybe the Swift GTI/Sport but again I doubt as it has not made much of an impact. The Nissan Cube has a slightly better chance IMHO. But again we probably won't live to see them getting their status. Here's my Jap list, 1. All Skyline GTRs and the GTR. 2. All Evos 3. All WRX's and STis. (The top three already make occassional appearences in Classic Car mags.) 4. Legacy RS. 5. The previous gen Civic Type R. 6. The original Integra Type R 7. All Z cars. 8. All RXs 9. All MR2s 10. Supras 11. All Mazda MX5s 12. The Subaru SVX and XT. 13. The 80's Mazda Cosmo. 14. Mitsu Starrion 15. Nissan 200SX

Being a cowboy from the wild wile west it's no surprise . He should've had his Colt on his holster though, we might have seen toe holes on the size 10s when they landed !

May They Rust in Peace! Amen!

Great news indeed! This will definitely boost consumer confidence...... The funny thing is "Hedging" has become a really dirty word in our country, but now would be an ideal time to start structuring a hedge deal that could save us millions of $$$ in the years to come!!
-
Guys what you really need to worry about right now is if Subaru and Mitsubishi will go bust altogether. Their volumes are small and they have not been making money in good times.......... Pulling out of Motorsport is like taking a panadol for a heart attack. The Japanese govt might have to bail them out if they are to survive. Industry experts are suggesting that the world would sustain only 6 manufacturers once the reccession gets through. Tiny companies like Subaru have little chance unless they are swollowed by Toyota which itself is getting hit hard that I wonder if they'll bother.
-
Well I don't see why not. The RS infact is a surefire future classic. The competition history, and engineering should see it through. Unfortunately it does not look great and younger bro WRX keeps the Legacy in its shadow.... It could be a Lancia Aurelia without the beauty and elegance.
