  4. I found a very interesting site with quite a lot of descripto relating to coolant and engine cooling.. think it would help you out memphis.. the linko :- http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/service/a...89/article.html Zz I found a very interesting site with quite a lot of descripto relating to coolant and engine cooling.. think it would help you out memphis.. the linko :- http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/service/a...89/article.html Zz
  5. I am not quite familiar with the inner workings of the radiator so cant contribute much sorry .. I recently had me car serviced and the attendant said that their is no coolant in the radiator... I had been doing some runs here and there and the temp stays below half mark so did not give it much thought.. though occassionally the level drops a bit.. and not much... might be for the evaporation me think.. what is the purpose of the coolant if water alone does a good job? does it contribute to a cooler engien? 6. Hi phillipino and welcome to the AutoLanka Forums! I too have a similiar spec of the car you have and have been evaluating options too.. it depends on what your perception of modifying is? whether it is performance or cosmetic.. there is a limit when it comes to performance as the corolla engines and mostly refined for economy and reliability thus you cannot gain the performance you would expect.. nevertheless there are options which you could pursue to gain a smoother and faster ride.. I would suggest that you first get your engine tuned up and spark plugs checked, afterwards drop in a cone air filter and later on follow through the basics such as exhaust manifold modification and the entire exhaust system, you could afterwards move onto improving your brake system as well as suspension.. improving handling and cornering is possible by a set of decent alloys with lower profile, though your comfort would be affected to a small degree, the suspension could be adjusted accordingly so as to reduce the comfort loss.. do let us know of what your plans are and there are great minds in this forum who could help you out further.. K&n Filters

i am not sure bout the bleeder valve filter.. have seen it but i guess al K&N filter products would require some cleaning so i guess it would be mandatory.. drying takes up the longest time so be it the air filter or the bleeder air filter both would be similiar.. @ DevZ - it does give a kick if ya install one Zz

    K&n Filters

wel ya could have the easier option of going to the beach and soaking it and moving it around so as to dislodge the dirt and keeping it at your cars exhaust end and revving up so as to get the heat evaporate the water from the cone filter too hehe.. it takez big time dude! would gladly do it if it were a scenario where ya have two cone filters so ya could switch to the other while the other one is to be cleaned.. ya ve gotta stay over here for a night in colombo if i were to get it done lolz.. drying it takes 6-7 hours odd nah? it aint that hard men.. just get ya mind set and ya muscles moving.. its worth it Zz

    Whats The Best Plug?

bayagulla!!! I was told by porkster the same, that performance plugs (as they say) such as iridium and platinum tipped stuff are jst a marketin scheme.. n from wut i read, reputed branded spark plugs is supposed to have more impact o larger engines.. i stuck to the platinum range under his advice n there has been an improvement n acceleration n overal economy minutely.. @ DevZ - could you explain a bit further bout what the hot n cold sparks are dude? didnt quite get it.. i take it that colder spark plugs are required in engines which is made to run at a capacity higher than the stock such as nos, turbo etc.. and that hot are recommended for normal engine.. what would be the consequence of installing a cold on a norm engine? Whats The Best Plug?

more of the lag caused by dialups.. wonder where da modz are.. For the Corollas the Toyota Platinum is quite suitable from what i hear than the iridium plugs.. nice info DevZ.. i did wonder from where the carbon appears o the spark plugs but then again kinda stupid question.. stil learning Zz

    K&n Filters

Filtering the air is something which deserves much thought nah? especially in scenarios where engines are practically made to run at their limits.. dirt could play a very disastrous factor dude.. same here.. never seen an application as such.. but I would think it to be quite a necessity... @ Hola - sorry for not answering your question earlier.. the clean it basically you have to remove the cone filter and then tap it so as to dislodge the dirt a bit.. after the tapping you will have to use the cleaner spray which comes with the kit and spray liberally to all corners of the filter (filter element), wait for about 5-10 mins for it to soak the cleaner and then align the cone filter in such a way so that once you hold it under a tap the dirt should flow from the least dirtiest side to the dirtiest and then drop off.. the water pressure should be not powerful else it would do more damage than good.. If dirt still remains, then you would have to repeat the cleaner spraying and washing... afterwards let it dry for 6-8 hours (Depends on the environ), dnt force dry it using air cans or hot air etc... then apply liberally the oil from the oil bottle onto each pleat individually.. it has a red colouring dye which would point out the sections which you had applied too.. apply to the sections you have missed and voila, the cone filter is good as new.. install it once again to the cai and ya are good to go.. Whats The Best Plug?

NGK is a reputed brand but there is also this brand known as Neology (not sure) who offer silver tipped plugs which according to them conducts electricity far more quicker thus giving a bigger spark and better combustion.. I too have heard bout iridium plugs being something of a choice for most people but the reasons behind i am so not sure... If the sparks you are having right now gives the best spark for the air/fuel ignition then upgrading the spark would do you no good (how you are to find this out i am not sure.. somebody please detail..).. the spark plug wires too are of important as they distribute the current to the spark plugs.. though there is an argument saying that the stock wires would work far more efficiently than aftermarket ones.. once again neology has some pretty good stuff too.. K&n Filters

The refill kit for the K&N cone filter comes to about 1900-2000 bucks and could be bought is most motor**de related places.. @ DevZ - told you there should be an airfilter lol.. but even I have heard (especially the pics you have shown) that those type of filters are very very short lived in comparison to the cone filter.. Why would K&N be useless for such a purpose? basically the turbo would cause a huge suction for air and the filter would work overtime pulling air into the pipe while cleaning it.. and mind you K&N is one of the world's MOST reputed airfilter company.. disputing their reliability would be like tellin millions of car fanatics that their investment is worthless.. I would agree if it were that the typical size of the cone filter prevents it from being effectively used within confined spaces.. Zz
  16. not when ya got most of the lawyers on ya side dude no worries dill.. piracy is a big no no as buying it is worth it unlike some of the music n movies out there.. hehe.. Zz

    K&n Filters

financial situation dude.. all the people ve not got the money to spend on better performance at the risk of reducing fuel efficiency.. would you explain what the mod is for the fuel pump dude? havent heard of it... @ hola - yeah matcho.. did recharge by purchasing the refill kit.. works like brand new.. Zz
  18. @ Hola - keep it simple with the cosmos dude!! Just verify whether the stock bumpers would be heavy than custom fabricated bumpers n rather than going for the lips.. get the bumpers done.. only if the weight is less and the designs good.. Zz

    K&n Filters

supposed to deflect the heat.. depends on the type of application though.. in ma case it is kinda pointless as the engine heat comes from the right side towards the sides of the filter but there are cases where the air filter has its front turned towards the engine.. basically to refract the heat a bit dude Zz
  20. 1000 bux!!?? eh.. i dnt knw whether anybody could get me a duppa copy of it yeah? jkz Great news bro! awaiting the day for purchasing Zz

    K&n Filters

Just did some research and yes there could be (recommended) air filters attached in front of the housing of the turbo... they say that leaving it open would/might destroy the compressor due to incoming debris and dirt.. depending on the size of the inlet the air filter needs to be attached.. but i have never seen a airfilter in a turboed vehicle.. thats the bloody prob.. Zz
  22. I d kill myself for riding that in SL lol... if that ever happens.. whats with ppl having the ideas to chrome plate their entire vehicles ? looks cool.. but a simple scratch would brings tears ... but man.. that thing looks so darn cool! Zz

    Scientific Body Styling

speaking of V*P.. have you seen that hideous c******o insurance van which goes around? it looks like something ought of a sci-fi movie lol.. and just yesterday i had an encounter with a civic with a wide bodykit.. going through a small lane without a scratch was such a hassle with that type of a bodykit taking up most of the space... Yup.. alloys make the car look decent and somewhat professional.. the bodykit is mainly for the pimp factor over here.. Hey dims.. if you are replacing the stock bumpers with something more cool looking using carbon fiber, would it be a bit more riskier? what i mean is that the stock bumpers are basically an added protection in case of banging the car around.. so would the same benefits apply to the carbon fiber stuff? Zz

    Fuel Problem

These cars usually do about 10-12 per litre and more when it comes to urban areas.. the light burning up does not actually say that the tank is empty but is more of a sensor depending on the level at which the fuel is.. ya ll notice that once the car goes to a side or over a small bump which has the car shaken a bit, the light usually goes and again pops up.. the level at which the fuel is literally finished is when the indicators goes below E (3-5 mm below E).. As fuzzo said that indicator might mention that there could be even 10l of fuel in the tank.. The easiest way for you to check your vehicle for fuel efficiency would be to pump full tank. Have the attendant there shake the vehicle a bit so that the fuel would occupy the entire tank and pump as necessary to the extent where the tank can take it no more.. run around as usual for about like 1 week odd (note the amount of kms afterwards!) and then again goto the gas station and pump full tank (following the same procedure as earlier). Check the amount pumped and based on the kms run within the period of the last full tank pump ya could compute your fuel efficiency.. If it is below 9 kmpl then i suggest you have the air filter cleaned and spark plugs cleaned/replaced, further more an engine tuneup wouldnt hurt. Check the oil filter too.. Zz
