Up to date revenue License, and a copy of the registration book. If you're going to get it Fully insured, the insurer will need to take a look at the car and give a valuation, as well as check whether engine numbers and chassis numbers match up.

pretty much all the insurance companies handle 3rd party auto cover.... c******o and SL I******* are the main players overall, so makes sense to go with them.... they all provide service in a day or so now. However, speaking as a fellow beetle owner, IMHO i think it might be better to go for a full cover, especially if you've spent a lot of time and money sorting it out.... the conditions on the road these days mean that you can never be too careful.

Yeah, actually i realised that i forgot to add that my mate knows his way around cars more than the average person..... and doesn't mind the occasional repair job..

Well the "Are Sri Lankan Car buyers too conservative?" thread brought out some interesting viewpoints, some of which were fairly out there, but all in all it provided some very good food for thought... Following on from that, I was recently asked by an acquaintance to recommend a Car to fit a budget of 750-800k (maximum) to be used as his main car. The potential buyer is in his 20's, enthusiastic, and looking for something that fullfills the A to B role primarily. other conditions 1. Should have 4-doors 2. Later than 1989 3. Compact so i did a bit of digging around the AL classifieds and the papers and such and talking to a few people, I came up with a set of choices.... some are the obvious ones while others are much less obvious..... I have solid reasoning for all the less obvious choices btw . I So guys please vote if possible explain your choices, and help me decide.... Opinions are welcomed, and other options can also be mentioned.....

Forgive my ignorance on this one, but when did this issue happen? the toyota one i mean..... I remember toyota got into some sort of major issue in the WRC in 95 or 96 when it was found that their Celica WRC's had something odd with the turbos...... wonder if it was something similar.

well he certainly makes certain statements reminiscent of one..... and FYI, BMW IS a premium Brand with accompanying pricing...... the fact that it is more common than a Ford Mondeo on the roads of Europe makes no difference to the fact, "Perception" of the brand is still as being "prestige"...... BMW have always been masters at the art of marketing....

you REALLY need to attempt to be a bit more polite with people who have views different to yours..... I'll let Gtam speak for himself with regard to your arguments, but IMO I think you need to take a look at the way Don puts things.... even in a disagreement, he respects the other party's views and gives good justification...... once again Don, Hats off to you.... Jwest, you're of course entitled to your own viewpoint, but at the end of the day this isnt about the UK, (btw my knowledge of what its like there is limited to what i've read and heard) the question is whether buyers in sril Lanka are too conservative and im with GTam on this one, they certainly are....

Touche' my friend..... Toyota has always had a good rep in racing and rallying, stuff like the old Celica GT-Four which was dominant in world rallying in the mid 90's and the later WRC corollas were always well respected, and who can forget the Awesome JGTC Supras and the Le Mans cars... for the record, i was just quoting Jeremy Clarkson, and unfortunately when it comes to the majority of Toyota vehicles.... hes quite right. Mind you im not disputing the Reliability/Comfort aspect at all, I just believe that there is so much more to enjoying a car than that!

slightly OT on this, but i was wondering, does anyone know how many Legacy RS's we have here in SL?..... I know personally of only 2, Sharkster's and the silver car in the classifieds (which i assume is drake's). are there many more? A Legacy RS is definitely on the wish list when i have the required bread....

wow, great thread.... the choices are literally endless i guess, but all things considered if i had to pick ONE car alone, id go for a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T with the 426 Hemi
