Boy Racers? They've Got Small Ones ...

very true Mazdaspeed, couldn't agree more.... infact, when you consider the conditions on our roads, you quickly realise that the driving test we have is COMPLETELY inadequate..... i mean seriously, driving in a straight line and reversing onto a side road.... how hard is THAT!!! it really is no wonder that most newly licensed drivers on our roads are dangers to everyone around them (generally speaking... no offense intended to anyone) -
yes indeed, GTam, what IS the worst??

I dont know the address of his garage machan, its down Ebert Lane in Ratmalana..... if you drop me a mail i can give you his telephone number.... [email protected] cheers

Many Happy returns of the day KLM!!

Sorry... my mistake, not very well informed on the terminology of honda motors..... thanks for the correction

real world fuel consumption on a 1500cc automatic saloon such as the FB15 (in colombo driving conditions) isnt really much more than 6-7 Km/l speaking from experience..... we used to have a 2003 Honda Civic Exi Auto that returned 6Km/l Dead in colombo driving.... so id say your figures are not really unusual.. is it nearer 5 than 6 or what? n fact, a good friend of mine has the Ex Saloon version of the Fb15, also Automatic, i believe it's a 1.3 but im not sure, and he reports that the fuel consumption is around 6-7 as well...

Id agree with the choice of Silvio Berlusconi, the italians really know how to do things innit?
-
I believe the DC 5 did, AFAIK, its running the same motor as the Type R Version of the UK ES series hatchback... and that was a 2.0ltr motor

no probs, I liked the idea, just didnt like the wording thats all.... I will definitely swing that way soon @ Gtam, sorry i didnt answer this earlier... about the tires, well it originally came with crossplies, and the original profile (60x15) or something isnt available anymore... when i bought it it came with a mix of worn out out crossplies and radials (4 different brands).... so swapped them for 165/70 R15 radials... which probably explains the higher profile...sadly the wheels were not in very good shape so i couldnt make them tubeless.... on the lookout for a good set of originals... @ MRM, ASAP brother..... give me buzz when you're free, id love to see the mini as well.... dropped the car off at the garage to sort some stuff out.... should get it back over the weekend

Cheap?!?? Thank you...... but that is a good idea, does anyone know where i can get hold of such plates?? and what the cost is going to be?
-
yup, its real arite... Only in America!! the sad thing is, the car was Brand new when it was buried.... and they didnt bother to maintain the storage space over the years, so water got in and turned it into a rusty hulk...
-
Ok boss, i'll do it in a day or two.... bit tied up at the moment

hey guys, Thanks all of you for the compliments... I must say it took a hell of a lot more than initially expected, both time and money, but it turned out all right so im glad... about the originality, well my aim WAS to find a car that had been left alone and not been messed around with. you guys honestly wouldnt believe the things some ppl do to these cars!!! i saw one which had the entire instrument pael of a Nissan FB15 fitted!!!! complete with nissan badged steering wheel...... no offence to people who do that, but that was never my thing.... cars like the beetle, or any other classic, are pure just as they are..... mods should be subtle, not obvious...... anyway thats just my opinion... as to how i got the parts, most came with the car, and a walk around panchikawatta provided the rest. cost, well, the total came to around 420,000 for the resto.... the other little things that remain to be done will add a couple of grand to that figure.... the reason for this is because we eventually decided to rebuild the Entire chassis, because the rot was so extensive!!... i have to stress however, that this is what it cost me...... other cars will be different... i payed way too much for the initial car, because i wasnt intending to rebuild it at that point..... if the intention is to rebuild, you can get a runner for abt 150k, and start from there.... i realise that this post is all jumbled up, so I'll start a new thread with a how-to guide.... and perhaps the mods can make it sticky?
-
in a word, no..... but to be fair to him, the car was rusted WAY more than originally anticipated.... but im happy with the work, you see it on the other thread nuh?

mail me, [email protected]

thanks guys.... @ Madz, ya machan, actually the original colour (in the reg book) says white.... so when i have to paint it again, deffa going to paint it white and do the whole stripes and number thing....
-
hey guys, well some of you may remember that after looking through 27 cars, i finally selected and purchased a VW beetle..... well thanks to a small incident on the way home, it wound up going straight to the garage!!1 3 months down the line.... its FINALLY done, way over estimate in both time and money, but what the heck.... it turned out pretty decent...... What do you guys think?? there still are several things to be sorted...... doing them as i go along....
-
hi, welcome to AL, sorry dude, but the reason that there are no replies is because this car has been discussed so many times before..... try doing a search for "Honda Civic" on the forum, it should help.... or better yet, "Honda Civic ES".... if that doesnt work, post again, and then someone will answer your question... cheers

thats true, Nissan has way more sports cars (and most of them are better than toyotas anyway...)....

I dont know that much about carinas , but if you think about it, a carina is heavier than a corolla right? so i suppose the 1.5l engine has to work harder to get it moving.... whereas the 1.8 has a far simpler job, hence the better consumption while i dunno if this IS the case with the carina, if you take a look at the Peugeot 406, the two versions available here are the 1.8 and 2.0l petrol I4's.... of the two, the 1.8 (which we have) has around 120BHP, and the 2.0 has around 140-150, when you consider the hefty weight of the 406, the 1.8 has to work much harder at lugging it around, so real world fuel consumption in town is approx 5-6 KM/l but i know ppl who have 2.0's that can manage 7-8+ km/l in town.....! so i suppose power-weight ratios may apply in this case as well...... You're forgetting the MR2 machan, and the Corolla AE86.... even the celica can qualify to a certain extent..
-
errm... no, there isn't. http://specs.amayama.com/toyota/carina/1998_8/ http://specs.amayama.com/toyota/carina/1997_11/ http://specs.amayama.com/toyota/carina/1996_8/ if you go through that, you'll see that there is no such thing.... the only 210 and 212 carinas that have turbos are diesels, and THEY are all above 2.0 ltrs... so please do state where you get your information from, or else dont bother posting.... it misleads people, and we cant have that can we?
-
Nissan 300ZX all the way!!! one particular ZX actually....., sadly, what with the current financial status, probably not gonna get past the "dream" stage...
-
The GT is the sports version of the carina, with a high revving 1.6ltr engine... pretty quick and not that bad on fuel (dont know the specific figures though, someone else will have to fill in).... The Ti is the normal, everyday version with, I believe, a 1.5 ltr engine.... also, there is a rarer version called the Si (i've only seen a few around), which has a 1.8 ltr engine....
