  1. dunno whether the stock clarion head unit will get the best out of JBL speakers mate.... Pioneer and Blaupunkt do decent 6 inch speakers IMO.
  2. general quotations for 4 inch speakers ran in the 2500-3500 range a few months back... do you have a particular brand in mind?
  3. lol, no connection to A*W eh?
  4. I have to ask, why? i mean, my family has had several over the years (including a recon peugeot) and they've always been excellent vehicles. I suspect the same can be said for most people on this forum, so its more than a little puzzling to hear somebody express outright hatred for reconditioned vehicles.. Surely you arent one of those misguided individuals who believes that "brand new is best, where ever, whenever", are you?
  5. this might be because people who start maruti threads appear to be under the impression that the only vehicles suited to Sri Lanka are those made by Maruti. Now that is fine in itself, but when they start trying to push that preconception onto others, then everybody else who isnt wearing Maruti branded blinkers starts getting a little irritated.
  6. sigh.... never mind mate.
  7. definitely not... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/artic...car-launch.html Warning: excessive Heat...
  8. not that i know of, just a relatively regular bloke like the rest of us.... and like MOST of the rest of us, he likes to be able to get some enjoyment out of his car, hence he didnt go for the default choice, but thought outside the box a little. and Incidentally, have you owned a Legacy RS yourself? if not, how can you be so sure that its impossibly expensive to run and maintain, that only "well heeled boy racers" can afford it?
  9. Mokai? ane bung.. i could go on and on about this and also rebut your comments about subaru owners not being down to earth people etc (our own Sharkster might disagree with that btw, he uses his RS every day), but at the end of the day you appear to have your head buried in Maruti branded Sand, so whats the use? Like i said earlier, this is an enthusiasts forum mate, so we are always going to lean towards the interesting choices in a given price bracket. Cos at the end of the day, as Charitha19 put it so well... We've only got one life, so might as well live it!
  10. So after several months of teasing and tweaking with our curiosities, Jaguar has finally released the Latest incarnation of it's flagship car, the Big XJ... It certainly goes in a completely different direction from the existing model, looks a lot like the XF from up ahead, and that isn't a bad thing at all! Personally though, im not entirely impressed by it, the rear end especially looks a bit wonky for some reason.... Nonetheless, looks like Jaguar has finally decided to abandon it's heavy dependence on tradition, and build cars that look as modern as their mechanicals are! Since a big complaint against them has always been that their cars look "old fashioned", i guess they decided to head off in a bold new direction. Time will tell if this works out.... Launch, By Elle Mcpherson no less! from some angles, it does look damn good! But from others.... I dunno, you be the judge.... Interior too is a radical departure from everything that has gone before.... Mostly for the better this... 11. Yawn... you really should try and apply for a Marketing position an A_M_W mate... you seem to be far better informed about their products than most of the sales people there are! incidentally, with regard to your point about the Legacy's and Civic's being for DRAG RACING (why the emphasis?), that isnt true at all. The Legacy RS is a four door family saloon, that just happens to have excellent performance. Couple of AL members actually own and use RS's and i dont think they qualify as "well heeled boy racers"... oh and by the way, nobody was discussing the Type R civic here, we were just pointing out that standard civics, corollas and indeed, sunnys and mazda 323s are available for considerably less than most of the maruti products, and if you get a good one, it'll serve far better than any maruti! in sum, autolanka is after all, an enthusiasts website, so it's only going to be natural that significant number of members will encourage potential car buyers to think outside the box and go for something other than the "default choice.
  12. unfortunately machan, all the posts relevant to the argument have been deleted... so i called it based on what i saw.. both you guys need to chill out, the AL forum is a place for friendly car chat, not for members to put each other down ne.
  13. Damn, stay off the forum for a few hours and look at all that has gone down!! having missed most of whatever it was that went on, let me just take this opportunity to say that I know MasterDon (ex helrazor) quite well, and i can categorically state that he is NOTHING AT ALL like the dearly departed Hola, so gihan for heaven's sake, ease off man! you seriously need to learn to handle disagreements in a slightly more mature way machan..... and Don, chill out bro, "danno danithi", as they say.
  14. Lol i WOULD, but unfortunately i need the thing for work!! else we could even have worked out a straight swap perhaps!
  15. There ya go.... straight from the horses mouth, as it were. Genuine consumer advice there!
  16. Haha... even BMW's arent immune to the disease apparently!
  17. Some of that lot is actually quite worrying, several of the laws appear to have a very wide basis for intepretation, which could work both ways i guess.
  18. Quite strange really isnt it, They are quite decent cars as far as ive heard, with no major issues.... The good old misconception at work again apparently. as to the Topic... dude, three totally different choices at work here! Your choosing between a Car, a Van and a pseudo SUV.... If you want advice to help you pick, it would be great if you can tell us a little more about whats important to you in the vehicle you are looking for. Also, IMO i would avoid the rasheen, its pretty rare here and virtually unknown, so you might have a tough time reselling it. The proton will probably be tough too, but since there are quite a few around it probably might be a little bit easier than a rasheen. On the other hand the Diesel Vanette will be the simplest of the three to get rid of should you need to do so in a hurry!
  19. Yeah its a combination of Starlet and Cynos bits, but it has the 1.5L E series engine from the corolla... which is nice and economical and all, but not all that fun. However it is worth mentioning here that the Turbo engine from the Starlet GT/Glanza V CAN be fitted to the sera with minimum fuss.
  20. Oh yeah machan definitely!! looks like the brits were aware of how things were going to play out when they named it! Ouch! the TR3 story sounds quite painful, i guess you and your dad must have been feeling anything BUT grateful after the bystanders had finished their "good work" eh?
  21. The concern is understandable machan, but really i think people take it a little bit too far... Like most any other car, a well looked after 406 will not give any undue hassle to an owner, just as long as the basic things have been done on time. And as for the agent, its true they are a write off, but there is an excellent UK trained peugeot specialist in pellawatte, and from what i've heard his work is good and his charges are quite decent. Still, its hard to change a widely held myth in Sri Lanka, so the 406 will just have to remain the bargain that it is for the discerning buyer.... I for one am not complaining about that!
  22. wow, EK3 machan youve certainly got this maruti bee in your bonnet in quite a big way!! While all of the refinements listed above are listed in the adverts as if they were just invented by maruti, the plain fact is that EVERY SINGLE ONE of them has been present in japanese and euro cars for ohh, i dunno around 25 years, so if you're gonna argue the safety aspect when compared to a 90's honda civic or something, im afraid there really isnt much discussion. Never forget that the car being discussed here is essentially the 1984 Suzuki Alto, with the bare minimum of improvements done to it to keep it semi-relevant in india, where it costs next to nothing... I'd have agreed with this idea if the 800 cost 7 or 8 lakhs like it used to a few years ago. But at 1 point something million it really isnt worth the hassle as far as i can see.... The only real benefit it gives are the fuel economy and the lowish running costs. But do keep in mind that unlike a used jap car, a maruti is never gonna keep running for 100,000KM without starting to fall apart, so when you take longevity in to account, again it seems more sensible to find a well maintained 90's Honda or Toyota. In conclusion, Not trying to put down people who buy marutis (although it may appear so), just pointing out that most of the salient arguments pushed forth by maruti fans have equally valid rebuttals. If people really must have a maruti, then it would be adviseable to save up and go for the Alto, which if nothing else is a newer car.
  23. Hell, id be devastated even if they sullied either Alfa or Maserati with an SUV, there's no real need anyway, since the Fiat group will now own the biggest 4x4 name of them all...Jeep!
  24. Dunno about the Sera mate... its a nice looking thing, but basically a cynos underneath, and that isnt really a very inspiring drive IMO. Anyway im sure you can do some bargaining for that CRX, will probably work out to be a better buy than the Sera which is kinda a "all show no go" sort of car.
