Does the VZR and Lucino share the same engine?
  5. So that leaves us with a 1.6lt n 1.5lt
  6. As far as I know the Kia RIO needs 95octane fuel to keep it happy. My friend ended up spending close to 35k replacing sensors after using 90octane fuel. So it might be cost ineffective in the long run. Correct me if I'm wrong.
  7. Thanks for the info machan! that clarifies alot!
  8. Hi guys, whats the difference between a Toyota Marino AE100 and a EE101? And whats the difference between a Ceres and Marino. is it similar to a comparison between a Sprinter and a Corolla?

Not a bad option. How much of luxury tax will I have to pay per year? any idea how much a nissan vzr would be? keeping my options open.
  10. got a Exide NS60 for 6500/- yesterday (dehiwala). Lucas was slightly higher even though its manufactured by the same company. Anyways got to know that u can but the same NS60 from the manufacturer for 5500/-, my three wheel guy told me its somewhere close to templers road in mount. Volta was around 7300/- i used my volta for 3+ years, and im quite suprised since i hadn't checked the water for close to 1.5 years n the battery was bone dry but still it lasted! Im sure it would have lasted more if I had maintained it properly.

Is the Honda City (2001) Vtec a good buy? Is it like an all in 1 package?

Yeah I've been thinkin about an EK3 but I'm not too familiar with Honda's. i'm a lil confused on the types of EK3. This might be a stupid question. can this stock (below) EK3 be modded to look like a RS (below)? EK3 EK3 RS If an EK3 gives me better performance than a subaru impreza I'll surely go for it. (never driven a ek3 though)

Oh and is there a huge difference in the Impreza (1997) shell compared to the WRX?? Just wondering if I can make a stock Impreza look like a WRX

Hey Mate, any luck on your buy? I have come across a couple of Coupes in and around Colombo, but they weren't quite satisfactory since the cars were simply hacked. The pricing varied siginificantly too from 900k going upto 1.7mil! The 2.0lt version was automatic, and then came across the 1.6lt manual. Personally I feel its a good buy, admist all negative perceptions on Hyundais. But given your budget I would have settled down for an Impreza, which I'm looking out for at the moment. Saw a couple around Dehiwala at the D***g auto care centre. Might go n check em out tomo.
  19. Leaving Quality aside, what is the cheapest battery around in the market??
  20. Yeah gotta agree on that, the japs have a far more advanced production mechanism. But then again my toyota (starlet) has let me down many a times when I needed it the most... I've not written off jap vehicles off my books my I'm a bit sceptical about going for jap vehicle next time. Might sound like shooting my own two feet. A friend told me that Subarus are extremely reliable machines, and also his hyundai coupe which he owned for a good 3 years. Must have a good think about it.. what say u guys?
  21. well it's just perception in my case
  22. I guess that all makes sense. Also I suppose most European car engines have a higher durability compared to its Japanese or Korean counterparts.
  23. I have this little questions which has kept me puzzled for sometime. So thought of throwing it here. I owned a japanese car(petrol), manufactured in 1989 which had done approx 136,000kms. And it was about time to replace most of the parts in the engine, from rings to bearings, timing belt etc. Well fair enough the car has done 136k plus its a good 20 years old. (and the car was showing some initial wear n tear related hiccups) Nevertheless I've seen a lof of newer cars (not of a perticular make but in general) which have been manufactured in say 2002/2003 onwards which have well overshot on mileage (i.e - exceeding 130,000kms) but most of these seem to run quite perfectly. (with absolutely no undercompression or lag which could be noticed) My question is, Is mileage a good measure of determining whether a car is in good condition. Would buying a new car (say manufatured in 2002/2003) having a mileage exceeding 100,000kms be risky? Well if i put it this way Car A - Manufactured in 1994 - 1997> 100,000kms Car B - " " 2002 - 2007 > 100,000kms How do I determine which one will start giving trouble to me 1st? Logic says yes its the older one, but I'd like to have some thoughts.
  24. Thanks thats pretty compreshensive! It used to run rich but the mech adjusted the 'jet' and its now pretty much in order, and the black smoke is sorted out. Well a kick back is not that apparent, I think its safe to assume the timing is pretty much on the dot. Now the vaccum lines are a bit tricky..! as in a good half of them are missing and exposed, and both my mechanics with the looks of it have no clue whatsoever how the vaccum lines 'interrelate' if i may. Is there any place/ book/ site which will tell me how the lines work and how it should be connected? Yup i've done a bit of DIY (used a valvoline carb and throttle body cleaner) so I hopefully think i can pretty much get around any bit of advice. Thanks again! This advice is simply great!
  25. Dear experts, I drive a '87 Toyota Starlet EP71. I have done a overhaul on the engine (which is in absolute stunning condition now) but I seem to have a ongoing prob with the carburator. Through what I have heard the EP71 uses a quite 'complicated' carb. The engine hardly runs when its on idle (i.e - it just runs as if its out of breath, varying the rpm up and down and then the jerks and stops). Also I've noticed that the engine runs for a couple of seconds after it has been turned off! Now I've shown this to a couple of mechs and they basically tell me that the carb is clogged, since the EP71 has some 101 lines and nozzles. A temp clean up always works but is there any permanent solution for this? I have my own three and I need a bit of advice.. 1. Change the carb, which might be a good option, but I've had no luck finding one. (How much will one cost? if there is one) 2. One mech said that I can swap it with the normal carb... Will this work? or would it have any side effects of my cars performance? 3. Could I do an EFI conversion? (is it complicated and costly?) Hope someone could help me! Cheers! Apart from this could I install a turbo kit whilst attending to my carb issue - how practical is that?
