  1. Anybody recommend riding on the traditional Raleigh bike? Or is this not suitable for the task of getting a workout?

  3. Best of luck to you in court. Thank you for putting all this up though. Whatever it is, you will help make sure we don't have to go through the same thing in a similar event. I am sure you'll be fine as that guy has made some critical mistakes along the way and is bound to do so again.
  4. Repost, but that's the first time I've seen the name. And at first glace, can only track that name to this article, makes me wonder if it's even a real person. In any case, anything below 100 million seems peanuts to a lot of people nowadays, so I'm not entirely surprised
  5. Better than blowing someone else's trumpet, I suppose.
  6. Could someone well versed with the law advice on what we are supposed to do in such situations where the other party insists it's not necessary to go to the police? (How come there don't seem to be any lawyers on this forum?) Seems like the best way is no matter what the other party says you should go to the police? Incidentally, did you give the guy your contact details that he is now pursuing you?
  7. Don't do it. Get a reliable driver and hire it yourself.
  8. Must've moved the seats after the accident to get people out etc. If there was any death due to high voltage it's unlikely it was anything to do with the car, but possibly due to an electric short from the post that fell on it. Hope there was nobody in the passenger seat, cos it doesn't look good for them. By the way, anyone know the crash test ratings for a prius? It looks really plastic inside. Tried looking it up but got bored after the first 2 or 3 empty links.
  9. Come again? You mean you get less efficiency on outstation running?
  10. So will road safety and the current death rate. Not to slight sensible bikers on autolanka and off, but as the Ceat ad says, "The streets are filled with idiots..." Would be good if they dump those hideous police bikes and get the cops some real bikes though, it would boost their severe lack of self esteem no end.
  11. Wtf is this? New kind of spam? You had to dig up an old topic and leave your car's interior in Tanzania?
  12. Not really, unless you spend a substantial amount of time driving in the hill country. For 4 million are you getting a petrol or a diesel btw? I think this issue was identified and rectified as one that was occurring in the US built ones. One thing I did find out though is that the manual version of the Sorento is not very good (according to a lot of online reviews, as well as owner of local Kia Motors agent who knows something about cars). I was offered the chance to drive one and see the difference, but decided against it although I am a die-hard manual fan. So far I haven't regretted this, nor have I found myself using the tip-tronic option. Again, you're getting the petrol or the diesel version? I have a diesel and can tell you those figures are a bit conservative, I get much better mileage than that in the city, and way better outstation. And I put around 1000-1500 km per month on this. I know it used to be pretty poor but I think it has improved greatly given the increased popularity of Kia here. However, I was stunned by the Ten Thousand rupee first service, whereas I'm accustomed to the first service normally being free. Hope this is the case, maybe it will be what with reduced orders due to the tax increase. I think you've got all you need. They do have a guy here who does leather seats locally, and does a very good job, you might want to look in to that if the cost is not too high and is substantially less than importing it with leather. Also, see if you can get chrome door handles (inside), because mine has some sort of plastic door handle that looks very flimsy and I'm worried may come off at some point. Other than that, I think you are making a solid choice. But if you're going for a petrol, please get some feedback from those who run the petrol edition as I am not familiar with that.
  13. Did the customs folks do their alleged crazy burnouts and 360s in this one too? And what does this Suresh Ediriweera chap do with the cars once he brings them down? Is he the guy doing the conversions? The Ford was still running around with LHD and no plates months after it was brought down.Must be a powerful chap to not draw police attention.
  14. Yes good question, what has happened to the cars from the 70s and 80s? You don't really see any about anymore, even outstation (as far as I've seen).
  15. What the hell is up with pitstop and their "engine flush" ? There are quite a few posts on the forum if you search that mentioned perfectly good cars that have been screwed up by their "engine flush". Someone really needs to sue them.
  16. Depends on what "full option" means nowadays I guess Mine doesn't have downhill brake assist or navigation system built in, nor the reverse camera, so I can't say it's full option. However, these were not offered to me either and I didn't ask for them though I knew they exist. Additional cost didn't really seem to be worth it.
  17. No mine doesn't, what he has (if it is factory fitted) is clearly an option...strange it doesn't have tags at the back though, the diesel usually has the model and crdi on the back door, unless removing them is also an available option
  18. Btw for anyone worried about performance off the road (not that this is an off-road vehicle nor should you expect to treat it as one), I recently took it through some horrible roads in the hill country (basically no roads) and up some extremely steep paths (some inside a tea estate) where a car would only have been able to roll backwards. The Sorento performed admirably with a full passenger load and AC on. Didn't even break a sweat. So I wouldn't worry about its hardiness in general road conditions at all, very useful vehicle if you're involved in agriculture etc. Plus, it's not big and boorish that is barrels over everything else on the street, in fact it is shorter than a Hiace van in height.
  19. I have owned the 2011 Sorento since end of 2010. Kind of goes without saying? So far no problems...
  20. So not only is the Land cruiser outsized and driven in a downright boorish manner by most folks in Colombo, it is also underpowered and has poor gas mileage? Why does anyone want to get it then? Would make driving in Colombo a lot easier if more people knew how much it sucks...
  21. Why do busses make that noise anyway? Surely all of them can't be needing new brake pads?
  22. That must be some severe depreciation
  23. Just was there about 10 days back. The Hatton approach is pretty poor after you reach Radella onwards. Unless you're going in an SUV or van I don't recommend it, as recent landslides have really damaged the road and construction is going on leading to some backups. Same with the Badulla road. Kandy road past Peradeniya is more or less fine. I don't forsee you having any problems. The weather isn't that great now as monsoon season is upon us, so it can start raining out of nowhere and this may affect the roads. By World's end if you mean Horton Plains, well the road has been patched up now and is OK for hardy vehicles. I think the reemerging of the rains may have stopped work for a bit. You can reach the Horton Plains office on 052-2539042 closer to your trip to find out.
  24. This is true. The first (and only) time I was pulled over by a cop in USA for (light) speeding, he announced over a megaphone for me not to get out of the car: "stay in your vehicle, and keep your hands on the steering wheel" He later told me that getting out of the car was a sign of coming at them with guns drawn/confrontation. Guess SL cops are too damn lazy to walk over to the car.
  25. It may work, but why take a chance? Probably the transformer stage has a fuse so if you go over 110v it will either work (if it's actually an universal supply in disguise) or blow the fuse. But if you can't get to the fuse without opening the machine up then you'll be in trouble (violating warranty, etc). So like the others suggested, just get a convertor (Actually, look for a "step down transformer") which will allow you to use our 230v on your 110v product. Please don't buy any random chinese junk that you find on e-bay because I know of more than a few cases of them catching fire and damaging the equipment as well (keep in mind for your HDTV, if you decide to bring it down). Also, don't EVER plug those in to a power strip/extesion cord but only directly in to the wall socket. As for the 230w question, it more of less means nothing. Wattage is a measure of heat, you don't really draw "watts" out of a wall socket. What you'd need to look at is the amperage. Someone said 110v 2A so that will work fine with any of the (decent) transformers you find. Your TV will probably be rated around the same. If you're in the US you can find what you're looking for at Home Depot or Lowes, or order off the web after checking the reviews.
