1. Hi Friends, Considering a Mitsubishi 4DR5 jeep's suspension system (Leaf Spring + Shock absorber) , What kind of Shock absorbers to worth having. Because I will need to replace them sooner and currently it has normal black color oil ones which could cost 1500-2000 each. To enhance the comfort a bit, I was thinking of getting a bit better shock may be Gas ones. So I visited m*t*rcade and that guy said, there is a rancho shock which cost around 8000 each that suits for the jeep. Its mixed with oil and gas and auto adjusted for the road condition as said. Will it worth to have them and will I get any considerable change in comfort and may be handling by having those? Or are there any brands or types of shocks that I can consider? I don't go for very expensive stuff but in between basic and most advanced is ok for me. Please reply. Thanks a lot in advance.
2. Hi Friends, Please read this issue and comment what you know or experienced or heard about it. Thanks a lot in advance. I was having this idea for a long time which is to convert 4DR5 Drum brakes to Discs but many people advised with many ideas that some says don't do it and some says do so. Actually one of my friend did it on front wheels sometime back and he is saying he has better braking especially when running in the city. ( Better means, sudden stops due to motor bikers and three wheelers in a traffic conditions ) However I think the common issue with these jeeps are is that, the vehicle is pulled to one side when braking hard. ( Especially when we want to stop suddenly when the speed is aroud 70 KMPH or higher) To overcome this issue, I have pasted the drums and serviced the braking system ( From master pump to brake shoes, replacing washers and etc.. ) By doing that we can achieve a good level of braking without pulling to any side for sometime and again that issue comes. Then we have to get a mechanics help to adjust the brakes and this goes on and on. I called several people who said to be experienced of doing such conversions and all of them quoted very different prices. Some says they change the axles with ones with Discs and one person said, he does not change any axles but remove the drum and related parts and modify it with disc to match with Pajero caliper set. For that they say they get the disc Moulded from a place at Moratuwa or somewhere. However I inspected 2 jeeps they have done recently with the one of it is belonging to a friend of mine that I mentioned earlier. Those are seemed to be fine for me but I really don't know technically how successful that is in a long run. Also I am having a free wheel hubs at front and as per they, any of those are not required to change and Discs can be applied without any problem. The amount they quoted for that is 55000 for front two wheels. I am thinking of getting this conversion done may be in a month or two. So please advice any drawbacks you see on this. Also if you have done it before please post your experience. Its really valuable. Thanks again.
3. Hi all, just i saw this and thought of sharing but don't know if this is shared before on this forum. If so pls ignore. http://www.honda.co.jp/recall/140710_3391.html Thanks.
4. Thanks a lot for the responses. Thanks and this seems like worth doing. Could you or anyone suggest me a better place around Piliyandala. If this could be the reason, Is it dangerous to travel under this condition? Yes. It seems fine but better checking once again. Thanks. Thank you all but please post a reply if possible.
5. Hi friends, Having a KDH 200, there is a continues dropping of coolant with time. Few months back I got the coolant flushed and even that time we noticed this. After about 3 months we still have the same issue and yesterday we added little more than 1L to the tank. There is no leakage or anything noticeable but the only way out is via the lid of the tank. Even though its very old , In my 4DR5 Jeep I never get this issue which It has the level of coolant it was having 6 months before. Please post what is known about this issue or at least to know whether this is normal. Thanks a lot in advance.
6. Hi friends, I am interested to buy a motorbike for daily usage such as travel short distance mostly and long distance once in a while. So I have no idea about which type would be most suitable for me because I know little about bikes. I see lots of Indian bikes on the road. But I prefer a Japanese one because its said to be durable, comfortable and long lasting. ( Don't really know though) So my requirements are; - Averagely economical - ( no need to be the most economical ) - Easiness of maintenance - ( Availability of spares rather than how cheaper they are ) - Handling - Ability to travel comfortably especially longer distances - 250cc could be most suitable - medium sized ( not too large ) So please suggest me brands or models to think about and find about. Thanks a lot in advance.
7. This happened to me once and found that the upper block had loosened. Coolent circulation happens around the engine block (correct me if I'm wrong) and the loosened part was just below the exhaust. So the packing was changed (using silicon sealent) and re fixed. The reason for that incident was a loosened nuts and bolts due to may be the engine vibration. However in your case, check whether any part has loosened or any leackage due to corrosion. Be carefull if you start the engine.
8. <blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="MAS" data-cid="263312" data-time="1404039265">
I found out that I can get a new aftermarket radiator via Kapruka Global Shop for around LKR 14,000. Its sea freight so have to wait for around 8 weeks to arrive from USA. Maybe this is a better option ? Im a bit worried the core might get damaged during shipment.

If the item is on sale online why would you want to purchase it via a 3rd party. Be careful with local people or companies who promise to bring down items that are selling online for you. Instead buy it directly from supplier and use fast shipping line like DHL if you can bare the cost of shipping. Best thing is to try to find it locally.
9. Is it the top one or bottom? aluminium ones will be better that I think but check whether the original one has things that you should have such as any electronic part or so. Soldering has to be done perfectly because it is very important part in the vehicle. I have changed the radiator core but not the tanks but those were aluminium ones. Soldering done well so that no leakage happens. Better if someone reply who has changed it from Plastic to aluminium.
10. Hi friends, Just saw a couple of walkie-talkies and those come with following specs; But there is a problem for me to buy those because the person who sell those claims that TRC approval is not needed but has paid the taxes for the TRC. He's got the bill issued from TRC saying that this much of taxes has paid for the particular item. However, the reason as he mentioned for not requiring the approval is because those frequency ranges of those walkie-talkies are different than the military channels used in Sri Lanka. If you have any idea or facts knowing of those, please post a reply. Thanks.
11. Hi Virtu, Just to add few more words, Mr. Sylvi is a gentleman who is having very deep knowledge about motor mechanics as well as electrical. Once he helped me to overcome an issue that I had with my brakes vaccum system and also to increase the power generated by the alternator. I should mention that he takes challenges to experience new modifications. He sometimes got little history behind explanations but all that is to make his statement clear. I don't know how much of those stories applicable to newer vehicles coming to the market but knowing the basics always help to understand advanced concepts. I wish him a long healthy life.
12. Sometimes it all depends on the mood of the custom officer. However it could be held in custom due to the weight but not because of any other aspect. May be buying 2 single units may bring both to home without any matter. Of course. Those who have lesser idea about the actual pricing could be trapped easily to that amount.
13. Hi MrCat I am thinking of buying a pair of 27W LED spot lights to fix to the front of my 4DR5. Do you have any idea about how much will it tax for getting down from eBay? I found a place closer to Kohuwala that has such items and they quoted me Rs.40000 for the exact item. I don't know they keep higher margins or it is because of any taxes that has to pay to the custom.
14. Thanks and it is painted in Black (Matt) to match with the evaporator.
15. Hi Friends, Thanks to all and civicferio, I could do a custom work for my jeep. Picture attached. Its a small meter board for meters of volt, amp, vacuum, switches for fog ..etc. Happy to do it and hope someone could try it too.
16. Thanks for the reply but What do you mean by the real issue? Please suggest the engine models that can minimize such modifications? I mean not only to save money and time but to keep the original aspects of the engine. (Even if we do the mods perfectly, still I believe that factory fitted ones will be much better in this case.)
17. Yes Dinuka, And I watched this video once again. Seems like it doesn't have Compressor or PS Pump.
18. Thanks sampath. If I swap with a 4dr6, do I have to modify it to fit the power steering and ac or do they come with the engine?
19. Hi Friends, I need your expert advice related an engine swap of a 4DR5 J44 jeep. Currently it has 4DR51 engine and modified with power steering and AC compressor. What possible engines will it be able to swap with? I mean considering the options it has, what newer engines that can be considered which support in built power steering and AC? Also please give the differences of 4DR55, 4DR6 and 4DR7 engines which I do not know any detail about those. (Did a Google search but couldn't find any). Thanks a lot in advance and highly appreciate your detailed replies.
20. Yes magnum, as per the news its too expensive and does little more kms than leaf. I also do not believe in so called higher milage in our country where lot of hill climbing and bad road condition is involved. However the production cost of those Chinese electrical cars has to be lower compared with Japanese ones like leaf. I think there may be a potential market in the near future for these types of vehicles because I see some leafs around the city without even a proper charging station is installed. :-)
21. Thanks and Yes this facts are agreeable and good ones. Lets forget the design and without considering a specific brand, would you consider buying an electric vehicle? If so what facts you consider the most, If not why not? I am not in to buy this brand but was curious to know what you guys know and think towards buying an electric vehicle. More of these may come to the market in the future I guess. You are correct. As I heard, government has not reduced any taxes because of the fact that it is a zero emission car. As you said, you could buy one only if you have spare money which makes to think that still you think electric car is a kind of "Better to have but optional"? Appreciate your replies a lot.
22. Hi friends, Although this news is bit older and had discussed in another thread, I would kindly like to ask all of your opinion about buying a fully electric vehicle. I came to know that La*gfs to launch electric car (BYD) at the end of this year but will cost around 8 Million. First the news impressed me because it could go up to 300Kms from a single charge. (Don't know how many Kws it needs to fully charge the battery though) I have seen few Nissan Leaf cars around Colombo but still it hasn't got considerable attention from the people who like such kind of vehicles. The cost of these vehicles has to be much lower because those are called to be zero impact to the environment. However will these cars be able win the market as you think? Please post what you think about it. Thanks so much in advance.
23. Some people just see the number plate and buy. Personally I do not believe in number plate or the mileage on odometer but the mechanical and body condition. Also it is must to have a service history to show that the car is well taken care of. However, with a CAC number, will your friend be able to sell it 70k higher than the market price of the car in 4-5 years with older manufacturing year compared to other CAC numbered cars?
24. The pulley system has increased the alternator's RPM to get more current out of it. I think it doesn't give the correct RPM reading because of that reason. Am I correct?
25. Thanks for the reply. Little differences on actual RPM is not an issue for me. I just need to know the rough figures. and considering the cost, the one you have mentioned is not practical. Using alternator is also impossible. Anything you think, please suggest me a way. Thanks.
