  1. Hi Yes as soon as you put new brake shoes on it will take some time to bed in to the drums. Because the drums will not have a perfectly even surface the first time you try your brakes it will be poor. But as the shoes bed in they should wear in and start to match the drums surface so you will see an increase in braking performance. Some modern brake pads have a special bed-in layer which helps the bed in process. http://www.juratek.com/products-pads.php
  2. if the leak is on a metal area it can easily be welded. Most radiator places can do small repairs and will usually use copper or lead to weld it. Using epoxy will also work but im not too sure of how long it will last cos thermoset polymers are not too good with high temperature and might not last for a long time. I have used various epoxy resins on various engine bits in the past but they tend to peel off after a while cos of the high temperatures.
  3. A bit offtopic but can someone please explain what exactly is a body permit? what does it allow you to do? and how is it obtained?
  4. Well I was thinking the same. But they cant expect old cars to pass these test because they were never designed with emissions in mind. The older cars should not have the same emission regulations. A bit worrying when you think about how our people will apply these laws to old vehicles.
  5. This seems to be a very broad testing range. Doesnt even take into account the CC of the engine. Does this mean only vehicles after 2003 have to undergo the test? In the UK as far as I know the MOT test is done by referring to a exhaust emission data chart like http://www.autodata.ltd.uk/chartproducts.a...vehicles)_Chart This gives details of the HC and CO for the specific model. There are two charts CAT and Non CAT. I guess in SL we have to start with a broad range and bring it down later or else a lot of vehicles will fail the test.
  6. I doubt that there will be a change. Unless you go for a very high spec set. Its mostly the aesthetic aspect. Most of these alloys probably weigh more than the original steel wheels.
  7. hmmm.... Nissan Laurel
  8. Damn Devinda was it that easy.... Should have gone for something harder
  9. Ok since I was close I will post next
  10. Hi well as far as I know the trend is imported in Semi Knock Down form and assembled by Micro. So its not really built by them.
  11. Damn.. so close. I thought for a second about the S class.
  12. New C Class

  14. Hi, from what monty has said it sounds like the clutch master cylinder. as everyone says the best thing is take it to a reputed garage its not going to be a big deal to replace the seals.

    Drivers Licence

Hi I know for a fact that the UK license is not valid in Sri Lanka. Im not sure why but it isnt. The thing you can do is if you have a foreign license you can go to the AA and maybe get a international license. I think its just a piece of paper but that might make your foreign license valid in Sri Lanka. I cant imagine why they would refuse to let you go for the practical with your passport I mean the passport should be the same as the ID or even better.

    Abs Indicator

Hi, If the ABS indicator is on that mean there is a fault in the system and the ABS has been switched off. There is no risk running like that because the brake system would function as normal but without the ABS functionality. There could be many reasons why the system is malfunctioning. It is advisable you get it looked at and sorted out as soon as possible though. Im sure a good mechanic would be able to diagnose the problem.
  17. monty, You will need to take a closer look at the fan switch. It could be down to faulty contacts. on some cars there are separate resistors for each setting of the fan. So it could be that you might need to replace those. Take it to a good electrical place im sure they will be able to sort it out.
  18. Isnt there a magazine in SL with a used car price guide?

    Homebrew Ev

If you do convert a TukTuk to EV would it cost less than running with petrol since electricity in SL is quite expensive. I was looking at the REVA, it uses eight 6v batteries which it states gives it up to 80km. And also says that is takes 9 units of electricity to charge it (I assume this is 9 kWh). So a TukTuk would probably do a lot mor than 80km with a similar power supply. Does anyone know how much a unit of electricity is these days?
  20. So do the same rules and regs apply to the Green permit (Exchange Earned Scheme - CIE 6). Do you not get any duty concessions on the Green Permit as well? apart from being able to import a vehicle older than 3.5 years.
  21. Hi I think D*MO can service diesel pumps and I think they are pretty good.

    Brake Fluid

Just had a question. Do many people in SL change their brake fluid every 2 years I mean bleed the whole system and put new oil. Leaving in old oil could really lead to a lot of problems if the boiling temperature of the brake fluid was reduced and could cause damage to washers and all that. In the UK its recommended that brake fluid is changed every 2 years and it is also tested when a service is carried out but in SL I dont think I have ever heard of people changing brake fluid when it gets old. I wonder if this is a reason why people experience brake washer faliures so often sometimes.
  23. Easy way to test. When engine is running pour some water on the belt be careful not to cover the whole engine and electrics just on the belt. If the noise disappears its the belt that needs re-tensioning.
  24. Can someone else post for me please.
