  1. Just wanted to share this video with you guys. I'm by no means implying that any of you are like the 19 year old in the video, but the consequence of his actions (and his speed) really hit the point home to me.
  2. This was brought up earlier, have a search. There will be a 3 letter system implemented when the current allocation runs out.
  3. Too many prii in Colombo....

  4. So here it is...
  5. Honda City?
  6. Jan 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka National Transport Commission is to monitor the driving of private buses using GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) technology, says the Chairman of the Commission Shashi Welgama. Accordingly, the Commission will have special equipment fixed in the buses so that their driving can be monitored remotely, he said. The project is to be commenced from the buses plying from Colombo to Kataragama. Sri Lankan passengers often complain of reckless driving as well as wasting time by the private buses. http://www.colombopage.com/archive_10C/Jan08_1294457130CH.php Well first of all, i'm not sure how GPRS can be used, and even if it could be, i'm sure GPS would've been the most obvious choice.... What do you guys think? Advancement, or just another fad? Personally I think that, yes, it may be short lived, with drivers and bus owners objecting to being monitored, BUT, surely this is a move in the right direction. Lets face it, it would take a helluva a lot of money and resources to transform this country's dire bus system, but this is a start atleast.... Right?
  7. The one that was advertised at 700,000? Thats profit of a million.... Not bad..
  8. Generally a single red light would be a fog light. This would differ between export markets as not all countries require cars to have rear fog lights. For example, most JDM cars imported to the UK have to have a rear fog light fitted aftermarket as UK regulations require this, but Japan doesn't.
  9. If I remember correctly, adv*nc* car audio had such a system advertised some time back.... But judging by their recent A/L reviews, I'd stay away from them and anything flammable....
  10. Anone saw the ad in the paper today for said car? Its by the salvage section of an insurance company, so the owner must have chosen to accept the write off, interestingly it says its the only known carn sri lanka and that its repairable. Although redaing between the lines "repairable" must be a very optimistic statement when it comes to cost-benefit.... But hey, lets hope someone saves it from death...
  11. Toyota Vista?
  12. With the whole moped licensing system, the fact is, it will just serve to generate more income for the government. The benifit to us will be less idiots who drive as if they were above the law on their mopeds.... But unless a proper training and educational system is implement in order to obtain a license, we're just gonna see an increase in licensed idiots.... Of course its a remedy to the problem, but by no means a fool proof solution. There are still people who ride CBRs and Hornets sans license and insurnace, so I think in the end it'll just be the same with mopeds.... It may even have a backlash as it encourages such youngsters to move on from their mopeds to bigger bikes... :S A proper solution would be to implement a system where 16 or 17 year olds can obtain a license, but to restricted class of 50CC say. This is alreday present tin the UK and Germany, but I guess I'm forgetting nothing can be implemented here with the hope of people taking the time to properly train road users.... Not yet at least, but its a start....
  13. From December all mopeds will require registation..... But these cops should dicipline themslves first! A big thing is these convoys we see, who blatantly ignore all road rules whatsoever with drivers who a barely trained in high speed evasive driving.... Or any driving tbh Today on the Galle road I saw an incident in which an ambulance following a defender (both part of the V.I.P convoy) crashed into the defender in front.... I burst out laughing.... Seriously, its just a joke....
  14. Does seem a bit too good to be true huh? I'm very interested though..... Any one actually gone to check it out yet? Or could this be the 1st SENSIBLE used car price since the reduction?
  15. <img src="http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs609.snc4/58888_148314571867372_100000664913723_300670_7367867_n.jpg" width="720" height="540" id="myphoto">
  16. Toyota Yaris Hatchback....
  17. Deep pockets and kids....
  18. Would have prefered a quatreporte, but still.... Another example of a pretty rare car making it to our shores...

    Express-Way Updates

From the evidence shown, they're not just assumptions.... Anyone who's been abroad to a country that has successfully implemented a highway system can see that the precautions and widths shown here are just not up to standard for a supposed high speed road. In fact, extra consideration should have been given due to the general road and lane discipline seen on our roads....
  20. Red was used for the stig's Vietnamese cousin.... It never made the final cut, but great stuff anyway: The whole thing is a great watch...
  21. Maybe its a bit of PSA brand diversity...
  22. Thats ok, I was gonna buy a toyota with cattle... not money... But yeah, as long as people want the toyotas, the prices will stay high. But theres no convincing the general public that there are other ALTERNATIVES to the niss-toy-onda range.... Actually, thinking about it, could be a good thing for those in the know....
  23. There are a few places around Colombo, but the closest to Negombo would be the IOC petrol station at Seeduwa
  24. This is the problem in our country, speculation is always rife. When you think about it, its nothing more than glorified gossip: Just because you have a piece of news, irrelevant of its accuracy, you share it with all and hope to gain some popularity in the process, even if it is detrimental in the long run. For example, if this turns out to be another dead end, the government will have (to an extent) reduced its earnings by giving the impression of a further cut, and therefore encouraging people to wait even longer before parting with their cash... I'm not slagging off those hopeful for such a tax cut, as its solely the politicians duty to either a) Make an official statement, or B ) Keep things quiet. By just blaring out something, or whispering it to a friend, these politicians create more trouble for themselves when the public expect them to deliver on their statements.... Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a further reduction, but I'm criticizing the state's way of dealing with it....
  25. But what about their recent agreement with another Indian manufacture (ICML) to build the Rhino.... Guess that may be slowly (and thankfully) phased out...
