thats peugeot bro, i owned many bmws, from e30, e36, e46 now e39, facelift is basically major modifications
on the face of the vehicle, and in this case the turbo was modded which is minor, the engine as a whole
remained the same.
facelift is exterior modifications and minor engine modifications, the engines remain the same
its just that the facelift is a newer car, and even if you buy a older car you can facelift it
in engine terms yes the capacity of the engine is smaller, but in body well the car is the same.
the 318i is a versatile engine it puts out around 120 horsepower
and you can tune this engine to bring out more. but the choice is urs
i owned a 318i before and its lovely to drive, its gud on petrol too
the main problem with these cars are the swirl flaps in the intake manifold, they tend to break loose
and inject into the engine causing immediate engine failure, so wen buying one replace these.
turbo failure is another problem in these cars, but the facelift models 03-04 are not known for many problems.
the price depends on the condition of these cars. the cars available for a lower price either are cosmetically
bad or bad on performance. so the choice is spend money and buy a good car and drive it without problems or
buy a cheap car and bring it up, and the 320d is somewhat a fussy car.
besides that the 320d is great in terms of lazy torque and is a very refined diesel, its not very spacious in the back
compared to modern civics and accords. the car handles likes a baby its a fun car to drive as long as it has been
taken care of. i personally would go for the inline 4 318i or any of the petrol sixes as they are more reliable even
thoh u got to pay a little more for petrol u save on repairs.
hope this helped
cheers
The m50 was one of the first engines to come out with the vanos system, and the m50 vanos did give some problems after 10 years, one of the problems
were the faulty crank shaft sensor and VANOS jamming.
The reason i said non vanos engines are better because of this, The vanos engine has more low end torque that i will accept and
say is a good thing, but non vanos engines have more aggressive CAMS that peak at higher revs they also have double valve
springs to accomodate the rev happy nature of the engine.
All im saying is if you want to rev out the motor the non-vanos is more fun.
:-)
E34s are old cars but very nice to drive indeed, properly maintained e34's go between 1.2-1.8 mil these are
the 525i cars with the m50 vanos engine, id tell you to go for one without vanos because vanos is
known to give problems, the non vanos engines have a better build and breathe better at high rpm's
something you want in a sedan perfomance car. as any aged car it will need maintainence.
go for one with a good service history and go for non vanos these engines love to rev
The e34 is indeed a beautiful car, since these cars are old maintenance expense is high. even though it is a 1.8ltr engine
the car drinks fuel since the car is big and there is a lot of strain on the engine. I would suggest you look around for
an e34 525i with the m50 engine on it. it is worth the money you are willing to spend and sure is hell fun driving them
around. If u do find one see around for its service records especially on these kind of cars.
as i said maintenance has to be regular or you will have alot of problems with this model considering its age
The e46 320d's are no doubt good cars, but it has its cons, yes regular service is a must on these cars after 10 years these cars
give a lot of issues and it costs a lot to bring it up to its original state. The thing to watch about on these cars are the turbos
and swirl flaps, so when you are looking to buy one look at its service intervals.
other than that car will run fine
