  1. We do have some very bare recycling processes as I've seen up in some billboards for mobile phones, but no one really bothers to do that here and on the other side, heaps are being imported to choose working parts and sell, and all non working parts are thrown away. As for car parts, that doesn't seem to happen as every single part seem to have some use, atleast after repairing. Maybe other than batteries and I've seen them being piled up in lots already, and when it comes to hybrid batteries, no one knows what may happen, so guess we better wait and observe
  2. Data is pretty cheap now on most networks, so go for a good built in A-GPS phone. Mine got that in specs, but need to connect a handset with a GPS receiver to work properly, otherwise only cell triangulation So check what you buy well
  3. The chick part is interesting btw, wonder what sort of a car will do that job for a decent girl
  4. True that most people are only caring about saving their own pocket and not the environment, but do you not agree it'd cause massive junk buildup like we have with discarded computers and mobile phones which have been thrown out to us from other developed countries? Basically we're getting their garbage after they've had enough with it or had some problems etc IMO. Fuel injection must have been a big deal and ok to compare this like that, yet this is a potential garbage buildup for the country, especially when expertise is scarce and even agents have no idea about the internals of these cars. But overall, we should be happy there are so many fuel eco conscious people out there who only think about their pockets at present offering themselves as guinea pigs Lets see how they cope with problems that may come up and how familiar people become with the new tech, then we can take a plunge too if necessary. Better be safe than sorry, especially when spending millions
  5. Thanks for the feedback guys! No the V8s are very scarce in SL so will have to import through someone who brings down parts most probably, but it all sadly depends on the cost factor Wish we could get some sponsors like in other countries atleast to push things from the start and make it a bit more than a barebone project. Building a tubular frame chassis is a nice idea, but for UK I guess Here we'll have to nearly die to register that, invent chassis numbers and maybe they might even ask us to register as a car making company and get a VIN number. Overall, not at all feasible in a country where even ATVs aren't road legal. Designing an entire car from scratch isn't the big part but actually fabricating everything and making sure things are strong enough etc., and eventually not fall apart like a TVR I've seen insurance companies putting up ads for quotes etc. to be put for accident vehicles, like auction for the NSX but I'm not aware of the whole procedure and working with those companies are quite tricky. Could anyone outline what should be done please? If all else fails, gonna just get some tubes and weld up and make something like a Bowler Wildcat like out Stiggy suggested If it's fast, will call you out to test drive
  6. Well you gave the point in the last para Mani, put the Hummer aside, those are out of talk for ordinary people, but the bland everyday Axio is a bigger competitor to the Prius in the environmental impact category isn't it? 42 MPG vs 50 MPG doesn't give a huge difference in mileage rather than when compared to a hulking SUV either. So other than the current tax situation, a full hybrid car like a Prius is a lose-lose situation IMO. But Civic hybrid and CR-Z etc. would have better life and fate in SL
  7. Ok yes I saw it on AL twice now, good car even by looks. I'm sure it's got a sporty GB, so you ever taken her to a track? Bet Peri can beat you though with his 1.6L Owning an Alfa must be a great lot of fun putting the misery aside, especially for the people who love cars. Never had the pleasure, but they do seem to make some of the most beautiful cars in the world. As for the Punto, I saw one for sale but was a HUGE price for a hatchback I'm not too aware of his fate, but must have been bad management. The story about the grasshopper is pretty old and they should all have known...
  8. Thought they're all damn rich, the way they show off. Especially Mr.Chilie
  9. That's a great car, is it the red one? Or is it a manual? The red car seems to be in great shape and much better for people going after EG8s, only downside is the auto part. If it's yours, that's a beauty to keep and must be fun to drive! And 5km/l is better than an RX-7 isn't it? It'd be a rare collectors item to keep, you're lucky you can afford to maintain 2 Euro cars! Good luck with them
  10. Wait a sec, those three words don't go together
  11. Both those would surely be greener than a Prius both literally and to the environment What Alfa do you have btw? Was it up for sale recently?
  12. True that in emissions it may be cleaner, but the overall environmental impact in making a Prius with its huge NiMH batteries are disastrous to the environment, especially when it comes to disposing the batteries. IMO, people in SL will have no way to dispose of the battery or recycle it, they'll find a way to take it out and run on just petrol like other cars by bypassing the electric only system or so or fixing some Pb-Acid batteries to start it up and send all the batteries to some empty land where it'd be left to rot or whatever may happen to it. I've seen few such vehicles in SL like that, buses etc. but that's iron and it'd go back to the earth no problem. But all the material in NiMH batteries are going to cause severe soil pollution...
  13. Well atleast the police around Kandy deems it illegal to smoke while driving, so even around Colombo it should be the same, though not all may know it as it's probably another new law. Incase you've been quite lucky, better take care if you do that. As for your dad, he too has been lucky so far then, but sometimes a good discussion and green notes can solve it all in this land like no other Yes similar to the person JohnGalt spoke of, it was written "riyaduru asune wadi wi siti aakaraya"
  14. Seems not, like using cell phones, need to keep both hands on the steering wheel other than when changing gears according to the police Incase you're asking smoke, and then drive, that's still legal afaik. But this is SL, you never know when it'd also be banned
  15. True, was going on a trip once and the driver was stopped for smoking, when the officer found there wasn't even a single cigarette in the van, issued a ticket saying not seated properly
  16. Now that is a real beauty!! MUCH better than the FF which they are actually making IMO. Love this pic
  17. Fuel efficiency and power don't like each other :)

  18. Ok, now that's an extreme use of a sports car Anyway, good to have more backing info, thanks! Also I remember in TG US them saying london cabs do more than a million miles during their lifetime, that 1.6 mil kms! And not Indian stuff either I guess, they seem to rot to bits very quickly

    Toyota Vitz

Just to compare the new Vitz to a more known car and which most people tell not to get the 1.0L, the March K11 http://specs.cars-directory.net/~compare?ids=MzYzNDQsMTg5NDksMTg5OTksMzYzNTA= If you check the K11, assuming the fuel and passenger weight to be same, the K11 has a better power/weight ratio than the Vitz in both 1.0 and 1.3 engines. The fuel consumption is excessive for the K11, yes, but power wise, for a family, shows the 1.3L to be better as it's too much load on the engine when 1500kg+, especially for the 3 cylinder 1KR-FE. If you travel alone on flat land, the 1L Vitz should be the most economical, even stats show that.
  20. Yes the 1SZ-FE was a 4 cyl and haven't noticed it being too hot but maybe it's with some engines of some manufacturers then. Lean burn engines should mostly run hot as I see. Thanks for the info! Conclusion - Toyota engines living longer than others = Myth And Supra_N, you got another double cab with 300k+ km right? A Mitsu IIRC, saw pics in AL

    Corolla Axio

Not a problem you choose to stick with Toyota's and other Jap cars, but we had a E39 in UK and that was like heaven So was aunts' C class and she got another after engine ceased, they're not too expensive there. It's a different matter in SL and as Ripper said, you got to know about cars to some extent if you're hoping to look after a Euro car. I'd be happy to get one and take care of it like a newborn baby, only funds object
  22. Upload them to imageshack and link them Downloading the uploader saves a lot of time, that's how I do it
  23. BLu3HaZe

    Corolla Axio

If I had that sort of money, I really would have tried finding a BMW E46 320i+ They're just lovely cars, I always liked them more than Mercs even
  24. Personal preference, feel the Zonda looked better. What do you guys think? Ofcourse the Huayra would be a great car no doubt and Hammond would love it...

    Corolla Axio

Well yes, if you want a car, you can be very happy with a Toyota. But if you wanted a good and fun car which is a pleasure to drive, now that's a different matter and not many Toyota's can do that except a Supra, AE86, Starlet GT etc
