  1. @ Don, Are u based in Northampton? Just a hunch.
  2. The tank was 3/4 full. I first noticed this when was on the way to candy where I stopped at Perera & sons in Kurunegala. The parking lot has a bit of a slope. It started with a loud noise and I noticed that the cab was parked slightly nose down position. After that the same thing happened a few times and always the cab was parked in a nose down position. Strange? But there should be an explanation.
  3. Thanks a lot watchman, for your very thoughtful answer. I really appreciate it.
  4. @ komi- I know the man, you don't. He is a man who initiated legal proceedingns against his family for his farther's inheritance. Now, brothers and sisters split, for money. I strongly believe now that he is not selling because of its sentimental value, but for other reasons. I didn't call him an idiot to his face did I? When I mentioned he is an idiot what I meant was that letting this car die is an idiotic thing. My offer was to let it live. Carry on the legacy. Who said I want a show off ? Don't come to hasty conclusions and judge others while advising others not to judge others.
  5. Ok guys, i apologise for calling him an idiot, just don't take it literally. And I know its his car and his decision. Thanks for the intelligent answers. I think the car is simply going to die and somebody will sell it for steel and throw it in a junk yard. Its been completely neglected. My vision is to restore it to the former glory. Not to show off. Where even he can be proud of. I'll try talking some sense to him.

  7. I recently saw this old merc parked in somebodies back yard. 3 sri something. Its being there for quite a some time fro the look of it. Anyways I asked the present owner ' Would you sell this car.' He says "NO' because it's my dads car! He is an idiot and I am sure he will let this car just die. I am not buying it for profit but to restore it to the former glory. I don't know how to post pictures here. I took some photos.
  8. Whenever my hilux is parked in a nose down position it starts with a loud noise and lot of smoke. When its parked flat, starts absolutely fine. Any idea why?
  9. Whenever I am drunk I feel my car is performing better. Therefore I recommend adding performance enhancing whatever to you rather than the car. With personal experience I recommend 100 ml of Bracardi mixed with 150ml of Coke before driving the car. It will improve acceleration, comfort and fuel economy. Performance enhancing chips are expensive. Bracadi is cheaper.
  10. The Attorney General has instructed the police not to use speed guns (radar speed meter) as evidence against the speed driving offenders when they are prosecuted for reckless driving. The Attorney General has decided to cancel his previous determination in which he directed the Police to use speed guns against the speed driving offenders since the relevant authorities failed to fully implement the speed limit regulations stipulated by Supreme Court in 2008. The determination was issued in 2009. Then Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva in a judgment directed that all illegal sign boards of speed limits be pulled down and much visible sign boards be put on for the convenience of motorists. It was learnt that the Road Development Authority is yet to implement the regulation and it has not been formally informed to the Supreme Court regarding the implementation. In this backdrop, the Attorney General has instructed the Police Traffic Headquarters not to use speed guns as evidence for the offences relating to reckless driving and reckless endangerment charges. http://www.asianmirror.lk/news/item/2801-ag-instructs-police-not-to-use-speed-guns-as-evidence-against-offenders
  11. And this is what I would like to have. http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/us/en/index.html?content=http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/us/en/bike/model_overview.html
  12. Premium bikes also comes with better rides, disc brakes, anti locks, day time running lights etc. If you do a proper statistical analysis most of the accidents are with indian Hero hondas or scooty pep scooters.
  13. I am sure the duty rates will be extremely high to discourage it.
  14. Govt. allows import of high-powered motorbikesBy Anthony DavidView(s): The Government will allow the import of high powered motorcycles — from 450 cc to 1001 cc — upon payment of duty. The decision by the Cabinet of Ministers overturns objections earlier by the Police that they did not possess such high capacity motorcycles to cope with an influx. Ministers have decided to lift the restrictions imposed on the import of high powered bikes up to 1001 cc. They can now be imported legally and registered with the Department of Motor Traffic. Last year the Government granted permission to register motorcycles with high capacity engines only for sports purposes. The approval of the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence was needed for such imports. Prior to that, the import of motorcycles with a capacity higher than 350 cc was banned. Earlier, the police had expressed concern over granting of permission for high-powered motorcycles as they could be used for criminal activities and they could escape as the police did not have such powerful bikes. However, recently, the Police imported some 230 bikes of 600 cc capacity. But most of them have been distributed in and around Colomb)

  16. I came to know about this in a post here. Did a bit of searching in google to find that lot of people are doing it. Adding a pinch of 2 stroke oil to the diesel tank [1/200] seems to lubricate engine parts above the cylinders, burn better, accelerate better etc. So I filled up my Hilux tank and added 400ml of 2T. What a change! Engine is definitely smoother. All the little annoying rickety sounds are gone. And it accelerate a lot better. I am delighted about the change and thinking of continuing to do so. In various forums people were worrying about DPF filter and the CAT. Non had any real experiences on any bad effects. All concerns were hypothetical. But the people who actually used it had only positive experiences. Are you guys have any Sri Lankan experience in this?
  17. As Davy suggested best thing would be to stick to speed limits. However thats easy on a expressway where you can simply set the cruise control on. But with the current climate of where cops have to meet certain targets its difficult. With town limits, overtaking etc you will very likely to be caught especially on long journeys. I thought I would have certain advantage over cops with the new gadget but it doesn't seem to work. Best thing would be to buy a land cruiser V8 and drive pretending to be a cabinet minister! That seems the only way to escape cops no?
  18. I bought this laser/radar detector for bloody £49 just a few weeks back. I tested it in UK where it used to pick up lot of signals including all the traffic stop lights and even the PR sensor at my home. As you can guess there are no traffic cops hiding behind bushes in UK so I couldn't really test it. When I came back to Sri Lanka I fixed it to the windscreen straight away at the airport. For couple of weeks I couldn't check it because none of the cops pointed a speed gun at me. Then few days back I used the southern and Katunayake expressway. The cops checked my speed with speed guns at least 4 times. But the F*$£ing thing just didn't beep once. But I just left it on the windscreen to keep me alert. Once in a while it beeps for somebody's garage door or something! amazing no? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cobra-Electronics-ESD7570-RADAR-DETECTR/dp/B004RO3QPQ/ref=pd_rhf_gw_p_img_12 What a waist of money. Should have spent it on few 'ABSOLUTE '
  19. This is the man. check this out. http://umarasinhawansha.blogspot.com
  20. By the way Reckless, looking at the photos now we can wake up 5 am for the 7 o'clock flight??
  21. Couple of months back I went on the Southern Expressway with my previous driver. The bugger did have this problem of not being able to drive straight because his steering adjustments were too rough. I think he used to drive a lorry or a van or something. Most drivers do not appreciate the need for continues and super fine steering adjustments at high speed. One of the reasons I won't allow my wify to drive on motorways. Combined with a vehicle unsuitable for high speed a receipt for dissaster. I think in the future training to drive on expressway must be a part of the 'Driving test'.
  22. short = portable
  23. I got Bimbo Pads. Amazing! Very Hot.
  24. Calm down my friends. I was drunk after a party and as usual logged in to AL before hitting the sac. Thought of saying something that would stir the AL community. Made a poke at Komi knowing very well that there will be number of posts reacting. I don't really care what komi drives but admirably appreciate the fact that he's still got 'Ratha gaya',[as my lovely wife puts it] even after qualifying. Somebody asked what a doctorly car is. Here it is. Toyota Premeo, Allion, Axio, Vitz, Belta Richer doctors - Land Rover, Montero, Montero sport, Kia what ever.. Would I buy one? No I would always recommend to go to a doctor who knows the inner workings of a car.
