Yeah cant say no. But in my case I think the alternator too was at fault. Though it is 30kms a day the engine runs for at least 2 hours in the traffic.

it had the tag with its rating. Hope things will go well

@ Sylvi thanks a lot. I would have given it a try. But I was able to get one off a reconditioned engine. @ The Don yeah may be. thanks for replying. will see how the new one does the job.

Hello, I had trouble in starting the car in the morning whenever I drove it the previous night. As usual the first suspect was the battery which turned out to be ok. So I took the car to the local electrician. He said the battery was discharging when AC and headlamps are on and apparently the alternator current rating is below the required level. It was rated 65A and he asked me to get one rated at least 80A. Is it alright to go for an alternator with a higher current rating? What effect would it have on the circuitry? Does anyone know the current rating of the factory fitted alternator of Galant diesel (full option)? I`m asking this because the car was bought recently and the previous owners might have fixed an alternator with a low rating for some reason.

Its working alright. But by the time I found the engine might be still in the risky zone I drove it the normal way for like 500km. I was worried I might have damaged it.Thanks for the advice.

Sylvi thanks for replying. In my case it is a diesel engine. And it is the previous owner who has done the repair. After a rough calculation I doubt the after repair mileage might be less than 10k.

Thanks.Then by not following the 2000 rpm rule during the first 10k someone can cause serious damage to the engine isnt it?

Does an engine actually need special attention after an overhaul? (assuming the mechanic has done a perfect job) What is the reason behind driving at a moderate speed (40) for a while? Or is it a baseless precaution?

thanks a lot miniace. yeah out of the 3 cars I inspected only one had ABS and airbags. But it kinda needed a paint job. I will try a week or two and go for a CE110 or a CT210. But when it comes to price Galant is cheaper isnt it? Hope to find one around 1.8 million.

Hello everyone, I have been looking for a diesel galant for like 3 weeks now. But only came across a very few which were not up to the condition I expected. Even on the weekend newspapers a galant appears rarely. Can someone suggest me somewhere I could find one? BTW the options I had was Galant (98,99),Nissan Bluebird SU14,Carina CT210 and the famous CE110, and I thought of going for a galant. Is it a wise decision in terms of maintenance ? (I searched the forum for an answer for this but could not find) Thank You
