  1. Maruti 800 production was low from 2009 IIRC when it was banned from sale in Big metro cities of India. BS-IV(IIr to Euro-4) is mandatory for new cars. Average(not entry level) buyer in India choose a Maruti or Hyundai for peace of mind. Diesel cars are more popular. and 100% of them are common rail diesels like multijets, tcdi etc. Alto 800 flopped. Alto K10 seems to sell in rural region. our market has no JDM used car imports like in SL and BD. there is no imported used car market. I believe even Maruti brand will be dissolving in 3-4 years. Suzuki has set up their own plant in Gujarat state while Maruti has plants in NCR(Gurgaon and Manesar). Presently, most "hot" cars in India are Ford Ecosport, Renault Duster/Nissan Terrano, Maruti Swift, Mahindra Scorpio, Toyota Innova, Maruti Ertiga, Hyundai grand i10 etc. average customer keeps the new car for 3-5 years before selling/exchanging for new cars. Here's how streets of tier-2 cities(Cochin for eg) looks. notice the cars: We have only Ambys, Fiats and Maruti's until economy was opened in 1992 for foreign investment. A video of Delhi roads from mid 1970s will be interesting:

    Scooter Preference

125-150cc scotters are the rage in India. Vespa scootter is the most sought after these days. Hero Pleasure,Suzuki Access,Yamaha Ray also has good demand while Honda activa/deo is slowly losing market. btw, these are all 125cc 4 stroke scootters. I hear LML still manufacture 2-stroke NV(Vespa license) scootters but it is not available everywhere.
  3. Vespas and Innocenti(Italy) Lambrettas ruled Indian roads for many decades under various brand names. Bajaj Scootters,LML-Vespa are examples. Scootters are disappearing from India especially Lambys made by ALWYN,Scootters India like companies as they are collected and shipped to Europe by some businesses in India.
  4. How is Nissan Indian made quality compared to Japanese any firsthand review?
  5. Firstly, this is the replacement from Bajaj for rickshaw market. just like "magic iris" from tata so that these ricks vanish away from Indian streets. the "boxy" a log piece like look is because, this RE 60 has to pass ARAI(giyf) safety norms. It is not a car for private buyers. people in India prefer driving around hatchbacks like swift,santro,i10,i20,polo,micra,pulse etc than this taxi. alto has lost market for swift from few months in India. I guess, Maruti Suzuki Cervo JDM car is expected in India which will hopefully regain market share for maruti in low cost hatchbacks.
  6. it is Nissan Versa rebadged as Sunny for India,Middle east(Dubai) markets. since maruti had a old defunct MPV called "Versa", Nissan can't get Versa brand in India. hence, Nissan Sunny.
  7. Chevy beat is not Chevy Spark(based on matiz). here's a review of petrol model: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/71073-chevrolet-beat-test-drive-review.html
  8. Tata Indicas are mostly diesels using IDI(NA) engine pioneered by peugot AFAIK. It is a old school car and will need maintenance and in India, Engine life is approximately 200,000kms before it needs overhauling. this car is used by taxi operators because of huge space and good comfort. I've owned one briefly and it can give mileage like 20-24kmpl in highways and >16kmpl for city drive. Petrol Indicas are very less sold and are OK cars. check for electrical issues. spares are cheap in India and servicing also is easy. Petrol Indicas are discontinued. Tata Indica eV2 using CR4(Dicor CRDI) which is a modern engine and claims 25kmpl mileage officially expect 18-25kmpl mileage. http://www.cars.tata...aeV2/index.html Private buyers will buy Tata Vista with fiat Multi Jet diesel or Petrol engines. old Indicas are primitive when compared to Vista.
  9. Maruti 800 stopped sales in most of India in 2009 itself. and this april maruti 800 production stops finally. http://www.indiancar...12-india-58406/
