  1. I've got done quite a few good jobs through Galle Motors and they do have a large collection and a spacious repair place towards Homagama passing Kottawa. Frankly don't have their contact numbers now but a google search gave this up if you wanna give it a try. No: 135/10,Panchikawatte Road, Colombo 10, Sri Lanka. email: [email protected] Telephone: 2421449 Fax: 2344411 Web: Not Available
  2. Not every local guy does a smart job as you really don't have a clue what is inside these locally built muffler (silencer barrel in local context) What can be done is get hold of a trustworthy place either through contacts or based on a recommended job. Question them on their knowledge in building this muffler unit as I've met some blokes, who didn't have any clue what they were doing. Second alternative is opt for a used one. Some silencer repairing places do have used ones brought down from Japan and Delkanda spare parts joints too would have used ones. Can be a better solution if you come across a good one, but you never know how bad/corroded the inside is. Shake the barrel well for any sounds of broken particals inside is the usual method of checking a used one FYI. Another option is to pay little extra (premium) and go to a well reputed place and whom are specialized in doing this.
  3. Don't let the guys in car wash joints and service stations to apply any sub standard quality liquids which you don't know of, to any of the components in the dash including the meter 'glass'. The exposed layer of the plastic cover becomes misty and you have to get rid of this layer to get rid of this misty look. I've tried brasso as well as B-cut super on some old vehicles I had and got some good results. However, the KE72 gave a bit of a trouble as small hairline cracks were visible when parked under heavy sun, but all in all the results were good. Look for a good plastic compound or even proceed with brasso with a caution, as in, I will not be held responsible if it further ruins . Apply on a small area and see whether it works and proceed with the rest. Good luck
  4. Thanks and posted this out of the panic after ending up with too many sellers who doesn't ship to SL. However, the cheapest lot, the HK and China sellers do not ship to SL due to unethical behaviours of SL based buyers. Went to customs only ones and all other instances, goods delivered to doorstep including a set of (04) lock handles for VW Golf which I got surprised shhh, I'll tell ya, if the box looks plain old and useless, they won't detain it and charge you sky high.
  5. Hope Supra's advise will not be in vain, if I was you, I'd obtain help from the friend based on his competency. End of the day, you'll lose the quality of the vehicle and friendship both, if anything goes wrong, trust me I've burnt my finger in this, so to speak.
  6. bummer! now only noticed the hoard of newbies commenting positively and having second thoughts to take back the statement I made whole heartedly
  7. and first thing reminds me of this van is the locally fitted hang on type front Air conditioner, now compare that to a F/F Dual Air Conditioner
  8. not quite sure the exact color temp but price isn't largely vary depend on the color temp do they? bit lazy to do R&D with LEDs and waiting for the package to deliver and fix it is far more easy. Must run another search for LEDs in the bay again. Counting fingers till Saturday to swap the HID to low beam, simply I don't wanna ruin the bosch unit I've brought down.
  9. Great, and if your guy couldn't do at much as you have done, no two words, you should change the fella one small tip in bleeding brake systems, use a plastic/rubber tube which can be attached to the bleeding nipple along with an emptry brake oil container. Helps a handy, cleaner job and minimizes risks of brake oil contaminating with paint or chassis/underbody.
  10. dodgy key barrel for sure and it activates immobiliser function "assuming" it's a wrong key trying to break open. Correct solution would be new barrel with a new key programmed by agents (if they cannot repair the barrel) but this will cost an arm and leg, suggest you take the path of nano31s friend took. Cannot guarantee the immobilizer function will work afterwords if they bypass certain circuit
  11. way to go with Euros, handling repairs / maintenance by yourself than giving it to a makabass who would destroy the thing. What have you done BTW?
  12. In local context the chinese cheap ones quoted somewhere around 12 to 15k, same can be brought down through bay of E for about 4k including shipping
  13. Thanks for suggestions, Yeah, can change the HIDs into low beam any time, after reading about how HID ends its life, I think it's better to use for lows. Might do the swap in the weekend. How about the power of LED bulbs? do they as good as HIDs ? I'd still go for bluish for bumper lights to have uniform 'look' on the lights, or else different lights appear in different colors which doesn't 'look' nice. How about 4500k ?
  14. Rarely push it past 80 ? I reckon it's the time for an engine re-build and a diesel pump repair We had a townace CR26 with 1C engine and I've touched 120 manier times, usually on Moratuwa - Panadura stretch and passing 80 was just nothing in 5th, still remember how the 5th pulled the van above 60. Check the diesel pump settings for fuel flow and throttle openning limit. In ours I've changed all from standard settings, with those seals Make sure the van got some wide tires preferebly with alloys and some weight in the back, such as a set of after market seats at least Not a must but this will help in negotiating those bends in the highway in higher speeds
  15. I suggest you read and comprehend my post again. Ever missed the part high end cars in my post? Dude, not every city running econobox suits highway driving. Even if it does, its not optimized for highway driving. Most Japanese cars popular in SL aren't meant and build for long distances, however, the bashed lot, such as crowns, primeras will prove themselves to be as economical as an AE100 on highway driving. For your record, an average 406 does well above 15 on highway driving as they're designed and optimized for that. Dont be silly and judge euro owners in the context of penny wise pound foolish econobox owners where only objective of owning a vehicle is to sell quickly with a profit. Won't waste time anymore wrestle a pig
  16. 4300 is warmer and yellowish compared to 6000k. The more the k value candle power and bluish increases and above 10k is purple sort of.
  17. Thanks, I have already settled for a slim kit from us. Yeah, found lot of auctions only For bulbs and some were only for a single bulb and ballast.
  18. one important factor to consider, that is this adjusters are made in such a way that it automatically adjusts when parking brake applies. So, the shoe will be close to the drum and hence has an impact on brake padeal travel distance, brake / response time and distance. So, this is not only for the parking brake. Try searching in breaking yards in Panchikawatta as even Lancer box model ones can be interchanged. I think sourcing the original one would be a better bet coz you will have to manually adjust the shoe time to time if you don't have a working auto adjusting mechanism.
  19. Its not same for every car. Attached picture is not off from a car AFAIK, looks a van or a J44 rear drum to me. Should be able to buy (I could source the same for my ex 406 about 4 years back) or re-build the worst case as Don said.
  20. Could find a US based seller but you know, they are not among the first few pages when you sort based on the purchase price + shipping Cheapest options don't ship anymore to SL I already have high beams running on HID (in 406, there are 04 lights, 02 for low beam and 02 for high, all H7) with 6500k and gives a superb visibility in night only issue is takes few seconds to light at full blast. This time I'm looking for pair of H1s with 8000k for the driving lamps on the front bumper. They gives better visibility to identify ripples and potholes in SL roads and I can't take a chance with extra lowered Executive suspension. Yeah, that could be the reason and worried this will influence other sellers and we find us in a situation where nothing to be purchased off from bay of E. Initially thought something to do with global politics and economic restrictions It's only high beams and I do dip the beam strictly (whether with HID or not) and with HIDs I'm extra cautious not to blind oncoming drivers. This doesn't apply for some idiots whos driving position is 3-4 feet above ground and doesn't know what the low beam is. You know the population I'm referring to I guess
  21. Precisely the demand for high end cars and generally for Euros will increase with more highways coming in. People will start looking at safety ratings rather than km/l figure when buying a vehicle.
  22. thought to revive this thread as I'm looking for a HID conversion kit in the bay of e and almost all matching conversion kits I found the sellers will not ship to Sri Lanka. Has anyone noticed this? any particular reason such as return/deport by customs by any chance?
  23. Must be one isolated instance
  24. best would be to ask him to re-confirm there's no air bubbles in the system and ask whether it's require to bleed close to the pump as I've seen this is required in certain tandem type pumps where dual circuits are being operated.
  25. super diesel would be cleaner than the normal and is the only difference to the best of my knowledge. less smoke I don't know but super diesel would be smooth on the feed circuit, filters, pump and injectors they say. Run for sometime and find the difference in smoke and pick-up/power.
