Thanks for the post. Though this was discussed early, your post prompted the real reason. Just to mention my case: The problem popped up after 80000 km. After cleaning rings, now I have driven 35000km more, no problem yet.

How about estimated price comparison?

Hi, The padding material of engine cover of my vehicle stated to deteriorate. I am referring to plastic cover that comes for the top of the engine (see the pic below). It makes whitish powder all over the engine bay. Do you guys know any padding material that I can purchase, I was thinking something like aluminium foil!!!!

This should work

All, Just thought of revoking this old thread about wheel alignment. I am really doubting about the technical competency of most guys who do wheel alignment. Moreover, most of us just believe in what they do and just pay the cost at the end of the day. As an instance last time, the wheel alignment guy was saying that the recommendation is to have an alignment of TOE to have a sum of left and right equal to 15 (total toe). He was just trying to refuse to have zero toe for two front wheels. For all of us it would be advantages to have a knowledge to interpret the values of computer generated report. Key measurements to look at are Camber and Toe angles. How about your ideas on the acceptable ranges of Camber and Toe irrespective of the vehicle brand. Just for the sake of support for the discussion I've attached a copy of the WA result sheet. I did the alignment as I observed excessive wear of the outer edge of the passenger side front wheel (outer shoulder). According to the result sheet, it could be due to +ve Toe

Good that you got it done. You meant oil burning was not due to ring wear? What is the reason then?

Perhaps, 6 month interval is too lengthy for this delicate engine. After 5000 km, engine oil becomes quite bad in color. Now I do the service by myself. One observation I made; earlier when the service was done by service stations, always quite a volume of oil remained in the can after the service. Now, as I allow overnight to drain all dirty oil, all 4 liters are used. Ours was in heavy use from the very first day. The problem came after 80000km. Now we have done almost 12,000 km after the repair but no issues yet. Works well.

Saangyongs are much better than what it used to be. I know kyrons had some problems. I am using a Korando for now nearly 5 years and not much to say bad on it. Tivoli's must be having a further refined technology. Regarding the service, it is a DIY job for me. The cost is less compared to the servicing cost of our Fit Hybrid. Oil - Mobile Delvec MX - Rs. 4800 (6 liters), Oil filter (from micro) -Rs. 1700 = total cost is about 6500 If air-filter replaced - + Rs. 2225 ATF change by the agent : Rs. 15,000 (after 42,000 km) Fuel filter change by agent : Rs. 11,275 (did it after 42000 km) Airbag clock spring replacement - approx cost Rs. 11,000 by the agent

Just to share my experiences with SSangyong Korando which shares a similar engine but less refined. I bought korando AWD in 2012 and now used already 5 years. I am not a very heavy traveler thus it has clocked 60000 km already. Servicing was done timely. I've heard gearbox problem in DSI transmission box in Korando, but I did not face that problem. I think Rextons,Tivoli, and new korando uses either MB or AISIN gear boxes. For last 5 years I did not face any engine problems. Only issue came with door locks, all four door actuators failed and each cost Rs. 5000 to fix. It became a DIY job for me. Interior has not been deteriorated as some users of kyron/rexton reported. Now the airbag light is on an micro service guys in Kandy checked it free of charge and said it was due to loosening of driver side airbag cable. Though we have a Honda Fit hybrid, we never use it for long distance trips (family), as the korando is much comfortable, feel safe and great to drive. Disclaimer : I do not have any affiliation with Micro Company

Hi Ramesh, 1. I got this done at the famous Honda Garage in Polgolla. They are quite familiar with the engine as they have dealt with it. Further, got all scanners etc. 2. They removed the engine and totally dis-ambled. 3. only oil rings 4. I was not at the facility when the cleaning was done. Mechanic said that rings were misaligned too. I was wondering, can engine flush solve this problem?
-
Hi Sam, Seems you too got the same problem. However, I am wondering what would really be the reason as we can drop following arguments. 1. lengthy service intervals - Though I had bit extended service intervals, it seems that in your case you maintained 5000km interval. I hope you had maintained the service interval of 6 months at least.-not related to the service interval 2. Type of oil - My case I used Honda, toyota oil and you have used Havoline - not related to the brand/type of oil. 3. Mileage - 57000 vs 87000 km: not related to the mileage By the way, it cost me Rs. 50,000 including oil change, air filter (honda Rs. 4750), oil filter. The repair cost itself Rs. 40,000.00. However, they did not replace oil rings as they were not worn. Now I am bit concerned about not replacing oil rings as this fault could be something related to a manufacturing defect of rings.

Are you referring to rubber grease. Is copper grease available in our market? Where I can buy it? -
Quite useful discussion: Take home message "Gunked up oil rings cannot cause undercompression of an engine" http://honda-tech.com/forums/tech-misc-15/burning-excessive-amount-oil-after-2-valve-jobs-3227957/

I would wait for another service interval and verify. Please note that the oil level can drop drastically without your notice. Please inspect the oil level frequently. Your case also suggest that this is an inherent problem of some GP1 irrespective of timely service. I got done my vehicle repaired from Polgolla Axx Sxxx since I am living in Kandy and they did a satisfactory job. I cannot compare stafford and this place. If you are in Colombo, why not Staford.

Best option would be as many suggested to stick to shorter service intervals. As recommended by the garage I shifted to Havaoline Eco5 0W-20 (full synthetic). Though the garage itself recommended me 8000 km, to be safe side better to change at 5000 km though this is a long distance runner. Why this full synthetic oil is quite cheap compared to other brands? By the way, what is the recommended oil and service interval by staford?

Reaching the PCV valve of Honda Fit is a tedious task. It needs even the removal of the intake manifold Based on experience, the mechanic does not suspect the PCV valve. The problem I faced is an inherent problem of some Fit GP1 and Insight engines.

Rumesh, Very valid point. some literature https://axleaddict.com/auto-repair/How-to-do-a-PCV-valve-test
-
Some of the probable reasons 1. Using ow-30 and shifting to ow-20 2. Shifting from synthetic to mineral : As far as I can remember symptoms started at this stage. may be mere co-incidence. 3. Extended driving on dusty roads - in frequent replacement of air filter (did that once in 10000 km) I also think that prolonged changing intervals could have produced sludge. I purchased this vehicle unregistered. I checked the mileage by logging to the JVIC site and it was okay. This fault is nothing to do with the mileage as components of engine illustrated.

Guys, Problem identified and rectified. After dismantle the engine we found that there is no bit of sludge deposited. Metal looked glistering shine. I"ll upload a photo later. However, the problem was stucked oil rings and compression rings "mechanics language - oil rings badalaa" . This has happened by oil residues. It seems these oil residues have glued rings on to the piston while not allowing it to expand and seal the clearance between the piston and the body. So that the oil sprayed to the bottom area of the piston has gone to the combustion chamber and burnt. These kind of engines, we cannot observe or detect burning oil except a reduction in the oil level. According to the mechanic, rings were not needed to be replaced. Just cleaning was sufficient. Now the vehicle is ready to go. Did couple of test runs and everything is okay. Got the repair done at famous honda Garage in Polgolla. Very cooperative, nice people. Still I am wondering what has caused this problem. One reason would be lengthy oil changing interval (see above what I have posted), though I used Honda Synthetic Oil (9000 km changing interval). I was told by the mechanic that this is often a problem in GP1. Still this is a mystery for me.......

Rohnd, "As per Vitz cases, he always a victim of Sludge. Around 2009 he had a sludge problem on his Vios. Now this time on Honda Fit. It is worth to refer here". In 2009, I faced this problem in the unregistered car I purchased just after I purchase it. Pls go through the entire thread, Though, there were some signs of sludge formation, I was able to drive the car another 40000 km till I sold it without any problems. I adhered of changing engine oil in every 5000 km. After my Vios, I am presently using a Ssangyong korando, now (55000km) no issues. Nevertheless, we had a Viva, which was run 30000 km without any problems. So I would not personalize this issue.....

Thanks. I handed over the vehicle for engine clean up. The guys at the garage have done couple of cleaning ups and confident it will work. Quite a hard job as the engine has to be removed and dismantle. I"ll report the progress
-
Hi TB It looks like mine is also affected. What is the exact place you got it done. How about the cost and how long it took to do the job? by the way, the engine components near the vicinity of oil filling opening show no signs of sludge build up. No stains in side the oil cap.....

I"ll check that out
