Just after 5000km from the repair, I'm afraid the problem still seems to persist in my car. Yet the oil drop seems a little lower than it used to be. However, I didn't get any check engine warning lights or other error codes when I had the car inspected at Stafford when I got this oil burning issue the first time. I guess the only solution is to get the rings replaced. @vitz yours was resolved after cleaning, yeah?

I have contacted them twice through [email protected]. however, they are yet to respond regarding my second email about the oil burning.

Yes, my oil control looks like the third ring from the top in this photo. What I don't understand is reason why they shifted to 10W30. Thicker oil means I will do a little less on fuel econ, right @Rumesh88? No, the holes are there for a reason. Oil that flows up inside connecting rods comes down to engine sump through these holes, lubricating the liner on its way. Thicker oil, in my opinion, has more chance of clogging it up.

They showed me a tiny set of holes around the perimeter of the ring, of a car already disassembled when I got there. These holes get clogged up and send lub oil upwards in to combustion chamber instead of back to engine sump over liner surface. As more and more oil is pushed on to combustion chamber oil burns.

Got the repair done and cost me around 65k at Agents. They've changed the oil to 10W30. Although oil burning was not because of ring wear, why have they changed the oil to 10W30?
-
You use up all the oil in the 4l can??? I too have a bunch of cans with leftover oil at home. Stil I think it's mineral oils that are changed every 6 months although we do it every 6 months.
-
Did you get the repair done?
-
Yeah, it's frustrating. But I was spot on with my service- 6 months or 5000km. Maximum I exceeded was by 500km and that was because I couldn't get a vacant slot. Car has done a little over 60,000km, so doubt if I'd be needing a change of plugs. Also, my problem came up when I actually started using it a lot. Hyb-- H-B also do these repairs? I still haven't decided whom to go to, to solve this. Agent seems like the safer option.

They told me the cost will be around 70,000LKR!! Wonder why they quoted 100,000 for you. Oh this is going to cost an arm and a leg.

Hello, sorry about the delay in replying. Another 5000km is due and the level drop still seem to persist. However, the drop I believe has reduced by 1mm or 2. But that's not an accurate measurement What is your driving pattern? I seldom do long journeys and mostly do short distances. Stafford guy said that problem may lie there, but that was not -one would call - expert advice. EDIT: Yes, first few services were done every 6 months because of low mileage. But IIRC @Rumesh88 mentioned somewhere changing oil based on time is only a requirement for mineral oils.
-
Their cost estimate for ring replacement is 70k. Is that a reasonable rate?
-
@Rumesh88 They say rings have to be changed at around 70,000LKR. Should I get a second opinion from another workshop? @gayanath They say that I'm burning oil and the problem is still at initial stage. Ran a scan and there are no misfires. Internet says that white deposits can also mean a leaking head gasket.

They have an ETC card that is pasted on the windshield. There's an online application portal here : http://www.rda.gov.lk/supported/noticeboard/etc/etc.html

Took the car to Stafford. And this is the state of one of the plugs. They say that the rings have shrunk (ring බදලා ) making a gap between the rings and liner. Apparently they've come across a few similar cases. @Rumesh88 What's your opinion regarding this?

Btw is there a discount on all fees on Katunayake expressway for ETC users?
-
I normally check the levels every time I pump fuel. But for last 2 months or so prior to the service couldn't.

Update: I got Dunlop Enasave 31s and they seem not as stiff as SP Tourings I have. I don't think there's a significant difference in the tyre noise, but are slightly more comfortable. Grip feels not different. I guess they are kinder to suspension.

I own a GP1 2013 that has clocked nearly 57000km now. Been servicing every 5000km with Havoline ECO 5. Noticed that oil level had dropped by around 1cm in my last service (after 5000km and 4 months since the service before). Bought it unregistered after verifying with pre-shipment inspectors that mileage is genuine (had done 28k in Japan), so I don't believe that the engine is worn. Is this place in Polgolla better than Staffords to get the issue inspected and remedied?

The Stig said that Bridgestones are floaty and lacks feel. Of course my car is an econobox but compared to an Axio hybrid steering doesn't feel numb. Why do you recommend EP200 over EP150?
-
I drive a Honda hybrid and spirited driving is the last things it is designed for I need a balance between fuel economy and grip. I'll keep what you said on the mind. Thanks
-
How have the Bridgestones faired? How is the tyre wear and road noise? I'm bidding farewell to my original Dunlop Enasave 31s and looking for a new set. TL only seem to have 185/65/15, so that is out of the window.

I see. Thanks for the update vishkid. Last time I filled the wiper washer fluid with plain water and problem seemed to have gone away. But washer liquid is useful when forced to run the wipers without rain Shame they seem to clash.
