  1. Thanks for installing unicode that is a good thing to have unicode in your computer. I did not knpw that this site is full of executives. I mean the ones who want to wear ties in 36 degree celsius. Listen mate I have a friend he is a General Manager in a Private Company. Travelling nearly 65 km to work. He used to take his official vehicle home may be 5 yrs a go not now. Now he get his family car driver to drop him to the main raod (A1) and take the bus to go to work. At he office he use his office car only for the official duties. He never wear a tie on the public transport. U think the executives in SriLanka is a special breed, Get a life man. That is the problem U have. While I was working in SriLanka there was a uneducated GM who always wants his office boy to carry his breifcase from the car. What a laughable guy he was. Just try park and ride leave the office car in the office.(if u have a parking space)
If you can not read this (which is in sinhala) please install sinhala unicode
  3. Hi all Thanks for the important contribution to this topic. Some people were so angry and start calling me names and challanging me to come back to SL and use public transport to work. Some guys can not give up the tie even it is around 36 Celcius (have a look at the world leaders giving media interviews in a casual) . It is strange that some people very comfortable with english rather than other main spoken languges in SL. That s Ok. Some people working for companies that still think they are controlled by British empire. Any way there is a news that train services going to give the internet facilities in the trains to promote more passengers in the trains(I think trains are chocablock full now). Limiting private vehcle entering to the city going to be substituded by special bus services. With the econmic down turn, there want me much money circulating would lead to drop of vehicle prices( it was mentioned some where in this forum). People would think twicel where to spend their money. Sooner or later most of U guys going to catch the public transport. Good luck
  4. Hi all Thanks for the positive and negative comments (in my opinion). In this moment of world economic crisis and the war situation of our motherland every body who loves there country Please Please stop spending forigen exchange on luxuries. Bit roughing out would not kill U. Just think about the our brave forces fighting in wet uniforms crossing knee deep mud pools putting their life and the futrue of their families in risk. It is so funny that some people complain about sweating when they wear ties in public transport. When U are in SriLanka please try to be a SriLankan. We have to develop everything that suits to SriLankan climate and culture. Please keep Ur tie in the office no need to wear it in the public transport. Anyway it is so funny to see some people(like sales reps etc) wearing ties and walking in middle of the hot sunny humid days. As a Sri Lankan we have to change the attitude of private and government entities towards the work dress. It is so rare to see a guy wearing a full suite in the hot summer in here. They always try to wear something professional instead of tie and the suite. This is the time for SriLankan to change their mind set about showing off the fellow SriLankans spending unwanted money on blings. I was talking to a Australian Doctor(pure SriLankan origin) who's family migrated to Australian when she was a infant. Her sinhala comprehension and speaking ability very low but always trying to speak in Sinhala when mingle with the SriLankans. As she was in SriLanka she came accross the SriLankan mentality. She said that she learned english from sinhalalese they always trying to speak in English. Why is this? They want to show that they are a super class not a normal Sihalese. Oh Yes, Try to drive thursty 4.7 L Jeeeps, LCurisers, Land Rovers at less than 60kmph guzzeling loads of fuel and wear ties and speak in forign language to allianate the common people.
  5. Hi Ripper Good argument. How the hell all those people going to work in the chocabolock public transport every day. Why don't they buy cars and go to work. Do the school kids drive to school or take the bus. How many people in Sri Lankan workforce can afford to take the car to work? As every thing is bulshit. If govt limit the number of private vehicles enter in to the ciities(as I heard govt going to implement the idea). So many people those who do not like the little incovinence have to take the bus. Just assume if all the people take the public transport start to drive to work, can U think what sort of traffic situation going to happen in Colombo. About 60 odd cars instead of one bus. I want to appriciate the public taking the public transport allowing sooks to drive to work
  6. Yes I am a proud SriLankan. I spent nearly six weeks of holiday in Kandy area. I always took the bus to go to the city (where I stayed is rural and nice 16 km to the city). No hassal of finding a parking space. Eventhough bit overloaded it is ok to stand up insice the bus for nearly 45 min to go to city. It took nearly 35 min on the car to go to the city manuvouring around the pot holes(no complains about that). It is very very cheap to use the bus 10 Rs return. For a diesel car cost all up would be around 100Rs(including wear and tear).
  7. Sure, But why spend massive amount money compare to the income just on a car. I heard that Toyota Yaris costs 17-19 laks on permit. But the permit holders yearly income roughly aruond 12 laks a year(guessing a professional earn 1lak a year). Why spend that much forigen exchange on cars. looks bit silly. What is HP stuff

  9. That is what actually I want to do. But there was a TopGear programme showed a version of Lambo(I can not remember what it was) to be faster than Zonda. It was on Australian SBS on last Monday. The programme was a UK version. I think I should buy the cheaper ticket very soon
  10. Hi Auto lovers Cilpsal 500 (V8 racing) to be held in Adelaide from 19th to 21st in this month. What is exciting for me is that Murray Walker Dream Machine display and doing high speed laps on the race track. Guess what are the pace cars will be? Nissan GTR Godzilla Dream Machines are Pagani Zonda Koenigsegg CCX Ferrari F 50 Ferrari 430 Porsche GT Maserati GTS Aston Martin DB7 Aston Martin Vantage Lambo Gallardo Spyder I think AU$ 37 per day is worth just to check up those beauties
  11. HI L Board One of my friend had been using a brand new freelander which was brokedown on a family trip on the way from Sydney to Melboure. He had two choices either stay in a motel for 2 days until the car is fixed or abandon the car or use a courtsy(did I spell this right) car to finish the trip. Another opinion is non of the european or continental car came in the first top ten reliable brands in UK.
  12. Hi all I am wondering that Toyota Harrier and Lexus R330 are developed on the same platform. How much they worth. Can any body give me the price range against the Manufacturing years
  13. Hi If U want to do a serious off roading go for Land cruiser. Those Prados are not good as LandCruiser in off roading. One of my serious off roadin Aussi said that land cruiser got more suspension travel compare to prado. I have not seen any body doing serious off roading in a prado in Aussi. But prado is a luxury more suburban. Don't forget Land Cruiser is the king of the road and off road. People buy this big vehicles for recreational and for farm work. They are very good at pulling caravans, huge boats etc. Even I have seen one pulling a wheel harrow in a farm. Prices of automotives in Sri Lanka is shocking. I saw a old RAV4 may be 3 generations old model(1999) advertised on this site asking for nearly 3mil. Rs.compare to 2004 Landcruiser in brilliant condition for about 2.2mil in Australia. I would take the SLTB bus to go any where and hire a vehicle for off road trips

  15. Hi Experts Normal start up my 4x4 indicate about 2000 RPM and then comes down to about 900-800 RPM when the temperature indicator reach C mark. It was only today at the start up RPM dropped from 2000 to around 1000 then peaked again to nearly 1800RPM for short time(30 Sec). Then it gradually settled down to 800-900 mark. Can anyone explain the reason for that. Thanks in Advance
  16. Hi all Albeit the prices of vehicles in Sri Lanka is high compare to the income of a avarage person, why people willing to spend so much money on automobiles. As I realised public transport in SriLanka is so effective as such any body can travel to most of the destinations so cheap even though it is slow and little uncomfortable. Average person in other countries do a analysis before they buying a automobile (no arguments for the behaviour of Petrol heads, Automoblie enthusiasts). Keeping cost of a vehicle vs using a alternative transport such as Taxi and public transport. It is good to see that sort of trend developing in Sri Lanka as an example some people use dedicated three wheelers for some of their un routine trips. I have seen professionals working in develolped countries who earning above avarage tend to use small fuel efficient vehicals for day to day traveling. Some people travel to the nearest railway or bus station on a bike or a car and rest of the traveling is done through the public transport. In other countries use of a vehicle is highly diverse and choose the vehicle according to the requirement. Such as for farms, traveling in remote rough tracks, receational use, trade vehicles, requirement of pulling trailers etc. Like I saw recently 2005 Land Curiser turbo diesel for 300000(in Rs) for sale in Australia. If it is in Sri Lanka people would jump to buy it rather than thinking of its intending use. I have seen in this forum that people talking about some vehicles those are expensive and very hard to maintain in Sri Lanka I think it is better to develop the public transport and related facilities while developing policies to hinder the use of private automobiles in rush hours, in main cities etc. Dedicated bus lanes, buses only roads would be things to go
  17. Sorry, I am not a expert on this issue. As the owner said and I have seen he was filling diesel as well as Auto gas from the Servo. This 4WD is a Land Rover Discovery SE 1998 (Owner mentioned that it is more sort of a Suburban version), It is shown in my post "Camping and 4WD in Coffinbay Slide show" If you need to know more of it I can talk to the owener. Any way this is very good on fuel, in the city it runs 10km consuming 1litre of disel and Auto gas (80/20 ratio). That's all I know
  18. Hi requesters I was able to load few of the photos to the image shack, Sorry for that Enjoy guys http://img177.imageshack.us/slideshow/play...20975873qb.smil
  19. No worries, Check my second reply addressed to Don there are Links to two photos. Keep checking I will post more links
  20. Yes low ground clearance is a problem but catalog says it is 210 mm(not 180). But I have not had a problem because the sand in the track was soft and no any hard obstacles
  21. This discovery got a 2.5 disel engine with a LPG(Autogas) injected through the trurbo. As the vehicle is heavy it needed a longer run-up to get the speed up. Thats why it could not pull the trailer on the sand (even I saw a Landcuiser get boged with a narrow wheeled boat trailer). Actually I fogot to put on 4WD but managed pass through the point discovery bogged with the trailer. Only problem with Suzuki is the low ground clearance (210cm) with a long wheelbase (XL7). But the sand being soft and no any hard obstacles in the middle of the track I have not had a any problem.
  22. Hi Don I am very slow with Image shack this is a link to some of the snaps http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/6812/coffinbay108oa2.jpg http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/4143/coffinbay152io6.jpg When I get time I keep putting some other ones Enjoy Helrazor Yes it is highly popular among niche of Australians. 23. HI 2 all after long time We had nice 4 nights camping and sand driving in Coffin bay national park in South Australia. Two vehicles that took us to the destiny were Land Rover Discovery SE and My Suzuki XL 7. Land rover got bogged in the entrance of the national park because of soft sand as well as it was pulling the camper trailer. We gave up camping inside the 4WD teritory and camped in the camping cite just before the start of 4WD track. We made few 4WD trips inside the park without pulling the trailer. Every thing went all good and we managed to explore prestine sheltered beaches and massive sand dunes and the remoteness. We drove through the sand dunes and came to well known surf fishing beach in the park. We tried out luck but ended up with catching only one fish (others were catching 7 to 8 lb Australian Salmon). It was a nice trip and any body lives in Australia who like to do 4WD and holidaying I recommend Coffin bay is one of the best destination in South Australia. When I get time I load some pictures if you guys are interested
  24. Thanks. Looks like good price for a Brand New 4WD
