  1. If I were you, I would try the car with another ECU ( I am not sure whether security system to be unlocked for switching the ignition) and verify where the exact issue is. Take it to a professional who does alto or to agents.
  2. Daihastu, Vitz and Passo 1.0L versions are having almost similar engine performances except the changes in interior and options. These models are more refined and robust compared to small korean cars. If you worry about the second hand parts better go for one of the Jap makes. If you go for a kei model with s-ene charge, again you get a good performance and fuel economy for the price you pay. But keis are keis... smaller in size, only two passengers in rear seat.
  3. This is a real headache if you happen to cruise regularly in heavy traffic conditions. Most of the time you will be stopped from hitting the vehicle on your front but you will loose your tail lights and boot. Keep it mind these are not meant for SL traffic conditions. All these sensors are tuned for certain behavioral patterns of selected drivers and pedestrians. Usually the SL s are very well disciplined and patient when they get into road, either as drivers or pedestrians. So it is highly unlikely those systems will exactly predict the behavior of our road users. Anyway if you really keen on testing the reliability of the feature, you can do that by passing few pedestrian crossings at crowded times keeping your feet away from brake pedal. Also please don't forget to share your experience after the test with our members. ? Good Luck
  4. I am sure this is a real pain in a**.. when threewheelers and bikes crossing your way in heavy traffic.
  5. probably Rumesh88 will be able to give you a better clue. http://autolanka.com/forums/profile/53448-rumesh88/
  6. If you are a real enthusiast of crossover/ suv/ 4x4 , try to find a one within your budget. Even a used one with good running condition will full fill your dreams rather getting into additional problems. ke72 is a very good wagon. But only a very few models without a dozen of body and engine repairs can be found. if you can make it, this is a very reliable car. This has all the regulations ; http://www.dmt.gov.lk/web/images/stories/document/act_no 08of2009_en.pdf
  7. Very Welcome to the AL Forum ? Suppose you are not joking..? Nice imagination, but there are lot of barriers to your plan. Technically you can't change the engine, color and body unless you are planning to go through the entire fitness, safety and re registration process of the vehicle. People do these kind of things within certain limits but again questioned by the law (police) In terms of safety it is highly discourage to change of vehicle height (ground clearance) . People use to put higher wheel sizes but that is even not recommended. Increasing the height means, increasing the center of gravity. If the vehicle is not originally designed for induced side forces (transverse direction) during the cornering, you will be ended up in the mortuary. Changing the engine sizes are also not recommended. It has lot of demerits..increasing vibration, unbalanced pulling power, etc. So..
  8. These are bit difficult to find. What is the manufactured year of the car ? You don't mind sharing a photo of the bonnet (if it already there) ? One last question, how much you are going to spend on this part ?
  9. Thank you
  10. Thanks Davy. You mean the wool like padding underneath bonnet is a soundproofing material. I suppose it is acting as a damper as well. But in certain cars this is purposely removed for increasing the cooling efficiency. Is that ? You are correct, engine block can transmit the sounds from internal moving parts. I also agree that engine block has to be of correct mass, dimensions and internal channels to damp the excessive sound and vibration and avoid any resonance. This could be one of the reasons why lower weight 3 pod engines are not efficient in damping vibrations that of 4 pods ? I am sure this is a more concerned issue with diesels than petrols. That's why diesels are coming with heavier engine blocks. This is what I found from internet, from a research publications: "The first principle, employing control by damping, entails a skeleton load carrying structure arranged so that it exposes to the sides of the engine only narrow edges which do not radiate much noise because of their small exposed surface area. Highly damped panels, which cannot be set into resonant vibrations, are attached to this load carrying framework. Using the second principle, i.e. control by increased stiffness, an engine with a cast magnesium crankcase having a wall thickness of about 14 in was constructed. Magnesium was chosen so that the thickness of the crankcase walls could be increased to 5 or 6 times that of a normal cast-iron crankcase of the same weight. In subjective units these engines are about half as noisy as a normal engine using the same working parts. There are distinct differences in the characteristics of the noise of the two engines. The magnesium engine shows a tendency to be less noisy in the low and middle frequency range and is a little noisier from about 4Ooo c/s upwards." source : http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.1026.1276&rep=rep1&type=pdf Also there is another method of sound controlling inside the cabin called active noise cancellation (ANC). These systems seems more advanced. I am not sure how effective those systems in practically. But these have been already in the cars. is that ?? https://www.honda.co.nz/technology/driving/anc/
  11. Good point. Engine suppose to be fully sealed. How noise is leaked from the engine block other than the exhaust ? ( not referring to the noise from fan belts, water pumps, cooler fans, defected engine mounts, transmission or anything outside engine block)
  12. Expert Advise: If anything doesn't work out, switch on car, put seat belt and hit hard on the airbag sensor. not sure drivers seat to be occupied. If airbag inflates, yeahh.. it works..? nothing to worry. If not take it to a professional.. Just kidding, agreed with Crosswind , better seek advice from a specialised person. Not regular mechanics. Worth you take to the agents compared to the time and money waste here and there.
  13. What is the practical purpose of engine cover ? is this purposely avoided by lancer ex ?
  14. Was it 1.5L or 1.6L ?
  15. Actually what are the fuel consumption figures of this model , in colombo city traffic ?
  16. Yes you can, but a model before 2010 with a mileage over 60k. Any specific reason for going for a EX other than the appearance. ?
  17. this is a Japanese domestic model. Here you can find the full pdf https://toyota.jp/pages/contents/corollaaxio/002_p_007/pdf/spec/corollaaxio_hybrid_201809.pdf
  18. Do you have any specific concerns, such as; Second hand market price Average travel per day/ week Comfortability Performance and Options Buying a used car is in a way a gamble. It is really hard to find a carefully used, well looked after car in the second hand market. Both of these models are more than a decade old, probably passed through several users. In my opinion, don't always fix on the figures. carefully check for the previous users, if it is the first owner with a lower mileage, you are lucky. As long as it has been serviced on time, don't bother too much on the mileage. Keep it mind, good things are generally above the average selling price. But worth compared to the hazel you are taking for unexpected breakdowns. Engine capacity vs fuel economy is not a linear relationship. There are many things which govern the fuel efficiency. Type of transmission, type of engine, driving habits, hauling weight, etc. There are hardly all rounders in cars and not necessarily. Due to the slash in import duties for cars below 1000cc in last budget, most people still go for unregr or b/n cars in that tax bracket. According to your budget you can go for a 650cc unreg one, get a better fuel economy over the two models that you have mentioned with additional bells and whistles. But these are kei type cars(smaller size, lower acceleration, only four riders) not like standard sedan or wagon models. Good Luck with your search
  19. Jap makes: Lancer cs2 Nissan cefiro A33 Toyota carina myroad Suzuki swift, Liana
  20. Hi Mandy, Before you post anything, do a search in the forum. This particular model has been discussed under several threads. Better chance of getting a more reliable answer if you post under one of the following threads already there. And
  21. " banks too returning the old cards after punching .." ? ?? I never come across such a thin in my life because bank never request your expired card to issue the new one. Driving licenses can not be spot checked for its authenticity since traffic police don't have access to a centralized data base for the full details of the driving license. Still the entire system is paper based here. Even you take a fake duplicate of your old type driving license, there is no way to verify it by the police (unless it is sent to DMT). Though the new drivers license are better off with finger print details and embedded chip, there is no full use of what it is meant for. But there was a plan to implement with drivers point system to issue spot traffic fines but it never realized. If that system had been implemented by now more than 50% of those three wheel drivers, bus drivers and fake license holders would have found other means of living...But we are lucky to survive with these stone aged system, where enough room to play around with rules and regulations happily. In SL, drivers don't scared of breaking the rules as long as cops are not there..If cops are there ..some drivers tend to be over smart, extra disciplined and wasting effective time given to pass through traffic lights. ?
  22. Thanks. According to police, old school books are no longer valid despite they are damaged or not. But I am not sure whether this rule is strictly followed up. Suppose they returned your the previous license (after cancelling) back to you ?
  23. By the way if you can mention for the reason of renewing your very old driving license ? was it the old school book type ? This information may useful to others.
