the country has gone to the dogs, all prices gone up, corruption all over, roads, trains and infrastructure in a mess..hardships to ppl etc. just to re-cap, can someone give some example of a few good things that RW did to make things better.?

didnt know about this.!!! crap after crap. just to be on the safe side just cleared my cache.. knowing our bloody corrupted cops, this could just lead to so many shitty incidents.
-
i'm guessing it depends on the state. I've done that (just SLD, no international) in MA.

splash some water and keep your car wet during the night. Cats hate wet conditions. They will keep away and hopefully find an alternate place. then you can stop wetting your car.

Auto Guru's Help Me, Going To Purchase In This Week

There was no intention of mis-leading the topic starter. Just stating my opinion. Just to re-iterate, I personally think that Toyota’s are way ahead of the Swift. No doubts. I personally own a 10 year old Toyota (diesel) and I will not exchange it with a swift for anything! In fact I will be changing it to a brand-new Toyota within the next few weeks. The above is the general situation which applies most of the time. But this context is different. Let's look at this scenario again. The most important fact here is (which no one seems to be paying attention to) that the guy wants to use the vehicle for ONLY 2 years. Now lets look back at the options. Let's assume that the Toyota was used well and maintained well. The car has done 64K, so assuming the potential buyer is an average user, he will be going past the 70-80 range during the period he uses, where he will have to change all the belts, change the fuel filters, oil filters etc. replace front suspension bushes, wipers, batteries and most likely tires and the list goes on. (this comes from the experience of using a very stable and sturdy, Toyota, which unfortunately is not maintenance free as some would like to believe), having undergone the major maintenance cycle at 75k, the guy will the proceed to sell it at the end of 2 years (just after going through all that pain). If he buys the swift, this has done only 32k, for the next two years, he can safely take it up to the 50k mark and sell it with a bear minimum maintenance (can't think of anything besides the obligatory oil changes) after all A*W offers a warranty upto 50k for brand new swifts. So therefore after the 2 years, he can nicely sell it off with a peace of mind, without having to spend, time, money on the car. In this context, IMHO swift is a better option. As always, one cannot make a decision without actually inspecting the two, but considering ALL the facts laid, above is my view -

agreed. as in since the diff between the two ODM is not much the toyota should make a better deal. Just trying to stress that even the best made vehicles are still subjected to wear and tear and well as corrosion. Especially since the vehicle in question has been used just 64k in 10 years!!!....so either the user did not use the car much, (which is also not a very good thing to do), or else he spent most of its time in some garage -

With all due respect for Toyota's go for the swift. Depends on your requirements....do you want a 9 year old car, which you'll have to do some major repairs on, spend a lot of days at the garage etc, and not use for most part of the two years, which you can probably sell for about the same price in two years (but you need to keep in mind the garage cost) Or do you want a car that you can actually ride for 2 years and then sell at slightly a bit less. There is not much of a difference in the fuel consumption. dont go for the outside look. The point is how would you verify that the car was used well during the last 9 years?? -
How exactly are they vehicles identifiable? Or is the above a typo and you actually meant plates are red? if so, that explains the vehicles I've seen around Colombo with red licence plates....and here i was thinking the owners had a weird taste!!! Precisely!!!, What the heck!, you can't expect the permit owner to buy the vehicle. drive it by himself, prolly wash it and service it and repair it by himself as well....obviously he /she should be able to delegate some of the less pleasant tasks to fellow family members....(extended family be it!! )

be reasonable man! someone needs to pay for all the ministers salaries, their vehicles, secretaries, phone bills, fuel etc etc etc. I even heard some ministerass is paying himself rent for using his own vehicle....nice! Obviously you need money for all these. What better way to get it than tax the public..... dreaming of a day without politicians

it's techincally the 10th generation corolla. As you may know, corolla's are numbered according to their generation. we had the AE80, AE90, AE100, AE110, NZE121, and now the 141... the previous series was 120. the model that came to SL was 121. (I think the US one is significantly different). Similarly the next generation is the 140 series, I'm not too sure about the 141 specifically, but there are a few versions of the 140 series available right now. in Japan the version is the axio, while the 140 series car proposed to be launched in US is a lot more different. I presume that model that ought to come to SL eventually should be the Japanese version, hence try searching for corolla axio. However don't blame me if the model that eventually does turn up here is different to it.....

for your budget there are a lot of options available. however if you just keep exploring all options you will never get anywhere. So start by prioratizing your needs. e.g. you drive 50 km daily, so what is more important to you, fuel consumption or comfort. Believe me, if you drive a not so comfy model 50 km daily you will need "back" repairs within the first week itself. on the other hand driving a really comfy thingy that does about 6-7 km/l will require you spend about Rs. 1000 per journey (and trust me, it will keep going up and up and up). so decide what you want the most, strike a balance, then short list the options based on your criteria, then keep searching for a good car in those models. (dont even look at the other models once you've made up your mind). on fuel cost alone another good option you may want to consider is a CR41...fits into your buget, it's deisel (doest about 9 km/l) so your 1000 comes down to about 400 on current prices. on the other hand, its not at all very comfy. -
on the same topic, what is the best way to know, that your suspensions have gone for a six (besides the obvious jerkiness). i mean if you go for a mechanic, they'll prolly tell you to overhaul the whole system, even if things are not too bad. So how do you find out for yourselves, which parts needs replacing, or which parts have an issue (if any)..............

you can also consider a n16.....a post 2000 or so model should fall within your budget. much newer than the toyota's being considered here. plus its more spacious than the swift....and IMHO they are much better looking than the corolla's (esp the 121..) (i have a weird feeling that this might draw a lot of fire from the "dont go for nissan" group)... -
Out of curiosity, I called up Micro. It seems that the trend is about 13... Now who would go for a Micro for 13 when you can get a (good) second hand march or a unregistered jap alto for the price!!! Why dont the government give Micro tax concessions!!!! Look at India, all they drive are made in india stuff (the honda's toyota's etc. built in indian plants)!!!
-
Intriguing. Couple of points.....What happened to MICRO? I hardly see any MICRO's out there? Who are the agents and where can you get one? And why the hell do the moronic politicians tax Micros? they should be given out tax free or at least at reduced tax!!! (so much for "Jaathiya Godanageema!!!) Road hogs - actually I find 3-Wheelers more irritating than Maruti drivers. Those morons just squeeze ahead of you when in traffic, then goes pathetically slowly in front of you, and you need to go at their speeds!!!. Best part is, when two, wheelers try to overtake each other, blocking both lanes!!!!....and on top of that you get the idiotic bus drive their large buses as if they were driving a 3-wheeler (the way they try to squeeze) Jeez!!!! How can one simply drive in these conditions!!!!
-
Stafford says it will do about 10 km/l in Colombo. It's i-VTEC engine is supposedly efficient and powerful. But one thing I can say, It just looks great and feels awesome driving one!

Disclaimer - I'm starting the topic on pure informative basis, and do not wish to offend anyone owning a Maruti. Guys, What are the biggest problems with the Maruti? Anyone you know generally advises against it, however what are the significant reasons as to not even think of buying a brand new Maruti 800, but going for ancient starlets etc. (as most people tend to do, well not really, a lot of people do buy Maruti's as you can see by the number of Maruti's you see by just stepping outside!, but for most the first preference is an old small Jap car) as far as I know the issues are.... 1. Image - You don't get the enough respect driving around in a Maruti (Even the valet parking attendants sulk when they see a maruti approaching!! 2. It's unique ability to look worn out as if you've used it for 10 years, after using it for just couple of months (even the KE-XXXX stuff looks really old! - Anyone know why this happens? ) 3. Comfort - I haven't been in a Maruti for a while, but I assume the ride must be hard on the back!!! 4. Space - Or rather, the lack of it... Pros... 1. Economical 2. Small - easy to navigate in traffic Anything else? Do they also develop certain technical/mechanical problems after being used for a while? Keep adding....

Thanks for the infor Don, Sorry if i was not being specific enough. I was refering to the N16 SS, and the Yaris sedan. The reason for comparing the two, was because both are rougly on the same price range (yaris being a bit more expensive)...corolla is more off in terms of the price, though I suppose you need to compare the Sunny with the corolla. i guess it's a bit like trying to decide whether to eat a big Mac with a pizza, cos both cost the same, as against comparing two burgers of different brands....
-
Guys, what do you think is better, the Yaris or the Nissan Sunny SS? (if buying brand new) in terms of driving comfort, fuel consumption, reliability
