  1. All the best! Btw if you’re using AlloyGators or any rim guards, make sure to mark the exact wheel each one belongs to. It’s a royal pain getting them to fit onto the wrong wheel. It shouldn’t matter, but it does since there are slight imperfections that can cause a non-fit.
  2. No worries! Yup, that’s perfectly fine and even 2-3 year old brand new tyres are good. Mine were about 6 months+ old since the date of manufacture. Tyre age only starts to matter from the date they’re fitted and used as the load and other conditions start impacting it. Michelin claims that tyres don’t have an expiry date when not mounted: https://paultan.org/2019/09/26/are-new-tyres-stored-for-2-3-years-expired-goods/ The Continentals are pretty awesome and noise-free, however I still love the softer drive of the Michelins. The Federal Evoluzion tyres are pretty decent though and are supposedly comfy. I go by this site for reviews: https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre/Federal/Evoluzion-ST-1.htm
  3. I feel your pain. I was lucky to have changed the worn ones to Continental in Jan. Was considering Federal ST1 as an alternative as it is a really good tyre. Good grip and low rolling resistance. It was 27k per donut back then. If I didn’t get Continental, that would’ve been my next choice. Saw reviews that the sidewall is a little thin though so cornering at speed isn’t recommended. Then again, no chance of doing that with our fuel situ so I’d say go for it.
  4. Used Motul H-Tech 0w20 as the 0w30 A5 and 5w30 fully synthetic oils weren’t in stock. Noticed that all ACEA rated oils are far pricier than those by API. Been using Mobil1 0w20 for over 2 years now and it’s run better than Castrol Edge 5w30 did. I don’t abuse the throttle so I guess that’s helped 😀.
  5. Ok so here’s an update. Got my service done at the agents with a lovely bill of 28.5k. Used Motul 0w20 this time as they didn’t have any fully synthetic 5w30 and they apparently don’t carry any other oil brands now. Don’t feel any difference from my previous Mobil1 so I guess it’s alright. On another note, my Amaron EFB battery has started its journey to the graveyard as the idle stop doesn’t work any more. I’ll give it around a year before it dies on me now. With regards to fuel, I had to pump 92 octane twice unfortunately due to the scarcity of 95. No additives. Absolutely horrible mileage as I only got like 250km for an entire full tank. Used to do 400km or so on a full tank of 95oct. Not much engine knocking as I drove in Economy mode and kept it under 3k rpm. Emissions test came out better than the previous time too with a lower idle rpm and CO2 emission surprisingly. Managed to get back to 95oct and it feels better with improved mileage, however it isn’t like how it used to be about 2 months back. It’s currently mixed up though so will report once I have done a full cycle with 95. What I’ve noticed is that LIOC’s fuel gives better performance for some weird reason. It’s been an utter pain trying to get the tyre pressure checked regularly though with the fuel Q’s. Managed to get it done over the weekend though as the Q’s regressed. As for the rat repellent, it works wonders. I keep spraying it every month and the critters haven’t sighted the garage so far. Works a charm. I even used it on the garage gate to keep them further away. Looks like they know to stay away from my home now. Only issue is that a neighborhood cat seems to love my car’s bonnet now. Keep getting its fur all over the windscreen every morning. Here’s hoping the spray doesn’t contain some feline pheromones; last thing I want is this male cat making love on top of the car! By the way, has anyone changed wiper blades yet? Mine are squeaky so the rubber is due a refresh. Any recommendations?

  7. Been with Alllianz for ages.. the final quote at 9mn valuation is 132k! It was 118k at 7mn so the whole core premium has shot up. I recall there was some kind of added tax enforced on insurance companies, however it looks like they're passing it on to customers now. To think my 2021 premium was 84k. At this rate with fuel being scarce and the cost of owning a vehicle ever increasing, it might be good to buy a bicycle!
  8. How has your insurance renewal worked out so far? Mine just came up for renewal and they asked to value it at 9Mn or face an undervalue penalty during claims (my previous valuation was 7Mn). All in all the premium is up by ~40k this year compared to the last. I’m with A*****z. C******o quoted around 125k at a 7Mn valuation. This is getting really expensive now.
  9. Hello! I just felt the drive was super stiff and noisy inside the cabin, however it didn't have any fishtailing. The sidewalls started peeling off too and that's when I decided to swap them out. This happened on all 4 tyres unfortunately so I experienced a loss of grip with the drive wheels.
  10. Ok so an update after tolerating this for a while. It kept getting worse over time and I wanted to check the tire pressure however thanks to the fuel situation, not many sheds offer this service easily. Managed to get it checked at Bamba IOC last weekend and figured out that the chaps who replaced my tires probably had a faulty pump. My rears were at 38psi and the front was like 34psi. Changed it down to 32psi on all 4 and the ride is back to normal! On another note, I have a full service coming up in about 2 weeks and I dare not dream of the price of lubricant these days 😣
  11. Used to get this before and it disappears when you restart the car. Just ask them to run a scan and clear any error codes if there are some that are fixed yet outstanding. Also, this completely disappeared ever since I got my front bumper removed and refitted when I had my AC condenser changed. Not sure if there's something in there messing around with the radar.
  12. Turned off in the city and on for cruise control on the highways. AC on manual control always.
  13. Don't worry, this thread is all about the Civic! depends on where you're driving it and your style. I get around 10L/100km in Colombo city, but moves to about 5L/100km long distance on the highway.
  14. I’ve just recently switched to Continental MC6’s and they’re a huge bonus in ride comfort over the older Primacy 3’s. Just that the front end seems to take on bumps pretty badly compared to about a year ago. I recall ending up in a few potholes during the rainy season unfortunately and I guess that must’ve whacked it. Ah well.. shall report back after getting the shocks tested.
  15. Yup… changing the tires certainly helped make the ride feel much better, but it’s still a little too bumpy especially when I get into a small pothole or a bump. Going to take it to the company to check on the suspension. Might change it there if reasonable (doubtful), otherwise at Mr. Potato Estate at Battaramulla.
  16. Oh lord give me strength….… 🤲
  17. Has anyone here changed the shocks yet, particularly on the EX model? Just curious about whether it’s any different from regular gas filled shocks and if it needs some extra work due to the adaptive suspension on the EX.

  19. Yup, I’ve got the mesh installed in the front and there’s also an opening at the rear that was covered up. The issue is nothing prevents them from hopping into the engine bay area. I think I had a rat with an appetite for fine dining. Found about 5 snail shells (escargots?), a chicken bone and a load of its droppings on the engine housing. I’m guessing it’s the fellow from Ratatouille. The repellent spray is working well though… no sign of the critters anywhere in my garden either 😀
  20. Bought it off Takas. It's also available from Greasemonkey
  21. Quick update: 1) Changed all 4 tires this week to Continental MC6 from the factory fitted Michelins. I thought I needed new shocks as the car was so unstable, but turns out the Michelins had hardened up and peeled off everywhere. I also had to keep refilling air every week as I’d lose a few psi across tires. No such bumpiness with the new Continentals now and it’s far quieter than when I first got the car. Cost me 200k for all 4. Note: if you use Alloygators, make sure they mark which wheel it’s attached to. If you swap wheels and gators, they may not fit well - happened to me 2) Had another rat attack. Cleaned up the engine bay and went nuts with the Maarten repellent spray. I think it keeps me away from the car too now as I get the smell a few meters away from the garage at home too 😀 3) Heard some word going around that the fuel we have is no longer 95 octane, but I disagree. Haven’t noticed a drop in perf, knocking noises (the civic is sensitive to anything less than 95 octane and will make those metallic sounds on idle if something lower is used). I pump from both IOC (Horton Place) and Ceypetco (DN Galhena at Kalubowila) In summary, I still love this car and will only give it the best treatment 😀
  22. Ok so here’s an update after 3yrs of ownership. AC system started acting up again so got it checked at another known repair shop close by. The folks said that the compressor was shot since it was spewing oil outside. Wanted me to replace the unit, but there was none to be found, reconditioned or brand new. So they eventually decided to replace the oil seal and shaft for now. They did tell me that the oil was brown and had little white particles in it so it may have been a shoddy job by the previous chaps apparently. They also said that the previous folks would’ve used a cheap AC condenser (I got this replaced about 2yrs back) and that would’ve caused my compressor to act up. No idea what to believe though and the AC is back to normal function for now. I’ll prolly take it to the company next to get the system scanned and a general checkup done. But I have questions: 1) Should compressor oil be clear as they claimed even after 3 years of running? 2) Has anyone else encountered a faulty compressor on this model and swapped it? 3) How does one identify a bad condenser? I mean mine doesn’t even have an oil spot so no leaks by the looks of it 4) I did notice a weird constant whistling or hissing sound from the AC system inside the car and it became more pronounced over time. Could this have meant low AC charge or something else? I’ve kinda had it with these AC issues to be honest; repairs aren’t cheap especially nowadays 🤦‍♂️
  23. Thank you! That really helped explain quite a bit. Shall check with the Federal Evoluzion too. Last I checked, Toyota were sold out on their Pirelli's for this size
  24. Ok so a bit about the stock Michelin Primacy 3 tyres that came with the Civic. My mileage is about 27k km and my tyres are quite messed up already. It has this kind of chipping and peeling of the tread on all 4 tyres. They are rotated around every service, I don't drive like a maniac and they're always filled up to the recommended 32psi. The tyre shop folks say that they have lots of complaints about Michelin tyres as they seem to wear off faster "in SL". I've heard this "in SL" argument many times before from different joints and I am not too sure about what to make of it. One of those chaps said that I can run it for another 5k km and not to waste money now, however I can clearly see that the side-wall has started giving way too with this weird peeling so I do not want to take a chance. Especially since I keep getting the TPMS warning and actually see even loss of air across all 4 tyres each time I check by the order of like 4 - 5psi every 2 weeks. I've made my mind about going with Federal Evoluzion ST-01 tyres as they are cost effective + have some decent reviews online compared to the Yokohama ES32's and Dunlop SportMax's available. Not going with Michelin as I'll have to sell a kidney for that and the same is with Continental (ok, maybe half a kidney for the latter). Does anyone else have this problem with their stock tyres?
  25. Thank you. I just checked with them and K*d*w*th* Tyre House, but it looks like they don’t manufacture the tyre size required for the civics (235/45R17). Looks like Pirelli doesn’t have it either in SL. Only managed to get Dunlop and Yokohama so far.
