Any particular reason for the switch? I’m still using Valvoline 10W30 conventional. Mileage is 229,000kms. Not that going synthetic crossed my mind. But I didn’t bother about it thereafter.

16 Installation of the rear Spoiler. September 2023, Though its not a rear, thought to mention it here for records. Found a brand new ABS Plastic GT spoiler for Rs.20,000/- from 'Dai Lanka Auto Traders' at Pepiliyana. Cost me another 6,000/- to paint and instal it. Total cost Rs.26,000/- Here's a photo taken after few weeks of installation.

15 Replacement of the rear wheel bearing. Replaced around August 2023. By this time, I was running with a humming noise that emitted from the rear left wheel of the car. It was there for about two months and gradually started to increase. I knew it was the bearing but drove the car anyways given I had spent about Rs.100k for the aforementioned repairs. Anyways, I managed to find a second hand bearing that had been removed from a car that had not run a much (Imported part). Bought it from Nethush who does Lancer Modifications and supplies spares specially for Lancer CY as well as CS models. Price. Rs.17,000/- (If I remember correctly) No photos.

14 Replacing the cabin AC blower motor The timing of this could not have been worst. After spending nearly 80k for the brake replacement, the AC blower went out on the same month after about a week or two. The replacement was carried out on 27-07-2023. Had to settle for a Taiwanese made motor considering the cost factor. Price was Rs.18,250/- This was the old motor. And this is the only photo I have of the new one.

13 Replacing Brake Pads, Brake Shoes and Rear Brake Cylinders The repair was carried out on July 2023. Mileage - 206,000kms (Approx) Previously I had changed the brake pads on September 2020. The mileage should be 155,000kms at at time. You can read about it here. So after another 50,000kms, the front brake pads as well as the rear brake shoes were due for being replaced. Mind you, the rear brake shoes had lasted 206,000kms and 12 years. Last time, the the brake pads were replaced at the agent and the cost was comparatively low. But this time, the prices had gone over the moon as the agent quoted something around Rs.75,000/- for the brake pads set and something around Rs.45,000/- for the rear brake shoes. And my brake cylinders were leaking for the third second time. I did not bother to ask them about the prices of those at that moment. So I searched for substitutes. Fortunately our fellow member @Sampath Gunasekera told me that the OEM brand for the genuine pads that comes for lancer is 'Akebono'. So I went ahead and bought a set from 'Srikanth Motors' at Panchikawatte. They didn't have the rear brake shoes with them from that brad though. So I had bought a shoe set Branded 'MK' (Japan) from Wimal Motors as per my records. The prices were as follows, Akebono Brake Pads - Part No D6108 / PN3469 Rs. 13,615/- MK Brake shoes - Rs.17,500/- The calliper seal kit also had to be replaced. Those were bought from the Unit#d Mot#rs. Part No. 4605B982 - Rs. 19,304.34 (Rs. 9,652.17 per seal) total cost with taxes Rs. 21,089/99 Unfortunately, these were not it, I had to buy the brake cylinders as well. This time I bought two used ones that had been imported from Japan. Bought them from a gentleman called Chathoosha who sells Lancer parts on FB. Both cylinders cost me Rs.20,000/- So the entire thing had cost me around Rs.78,000/- for parts, labour and phasing of rear drums. Unfortunately, the rear cylinders did not last even a year. Will tell you guys about it later. No photos available of these parts. P.S found a photo of the seal kit.

Hey folks, posting an update here after a long hiatus (three and half years). The last update I've posted about a maintenance is the replacement of tires back in May 2021. The new tires that went in that time have worn out to the level you just can't see any threads on them currently. Owing to the covid times and fuel crisis, the regular running of the car was little bit lower now and some of the non critical maintenance was also put on hold due to the economic crisis. However, currently I have lined up to do those overdue maintenance at one go. Before updating those, I'll try to continue the repairs carried out until now from 2021 in order to maintain the continuation. Here it goes. 12 replacing the Radiator Cap The repair was carried out on 02-09-2022. Mileage - 190,000kms I exactly can't remember how I identified that the existing cap was leaking. I believe it was most probably during a routine service. The radiator cap comes as a whole unit, I bought it from Unit#d Mot#rs and had them installed it there also. Fairly a quick job. Part No. 1350A043 - Rs.18,722/22 Labour Cost - Rs.1,250/- Total cost with taxes - Rs.22,968/05

Hey all, Sorry I could not find a time to give an update regarding the the final outcome to this thread. Sadly the outcome was not the sweet one I expected as I had to let it go at the last moment. I logged in today to post an update to this thread as well as My Lancer Maintenance thread. I owe this update to @iRage especially as he was instrumental in my decision making. The answer to the question asked by @Supra_Natural is a No. I called the deal off at the last moment (Mutually agreed with the seller). To summarise things, I wanted to by this car as second car to the Family and to gift it to my wife for her 40th Birthday which was on last October. The car was owned by a very good fried of mine and he was willing to give this car to me for a very reasonable price given the condition of the car. The car was actually in pristine condition, Manufactured in 2002 and my fried was the second owner. He had bought it about four years ago and during his ownership he had done all required maintenance to the car. He was hoping to buy a Toyota Carina as his next vehicle and he wanted me to have this since he didn't want to give the car to anyone else. Since he was going to sell the car to me, he replaced all four tires with brand new ones as well. All that was left was to give him the money and bring the car home. Meanwhile he was searching for a Carina that was in good condition and matched his budget. Finally he found a car, around August and he sold his motorbike also to raise funds to by the Carina. I also transferred the value of the Corolla to him and he was to bring the Carina home first (This was my suggestion as his job requires him to have a car) and release the Corolla to me thereafter. Unfortunately, the Carina he went to buy was having may issues and he didn't go through with that deal because of that. Yet, he asked me to collect the corolla the next day and said that he can manage with his wife's car until he finds a one for him. Given our longstanding friendship, I could not agree to that as I knew both of them are dependent on their vehicles very much and practically it was not possible them to manage everything with one car. Since I had time since October, I told him to keep the Corolla and after much persuasion, he agreed to it reluctantly as he did not want to break the deal we made. Thereafter, he returned my money and we both started to look for Carina's in good condition that matched his budget. Meanwhile I also kept eye on other Corolla wagons in case we could not find a Carina as we planned. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned as all cars we came across were asking exorbitant prices and the ones that were in the budgeted range were having issues of some sort that required few hundred thousands to fix. Gradually, October came by and and my wife had to settle for a Titan Watch and an YSL perfume instead of a car on her birthday ha ha ha,... Anyways, until couple weeks ago, she didn't know any of my plans in buying a car for her. One fine morning while having breakfast, I told her the entire story and she was pleasantly surprised. Lastly, I'm still looking for a second car, the Corolla is out of the window as all the cars that are for sale are very poor in quality. Now my eyes are set on a Nissan Wingroad WFY 11. Guess I would start a new thread of that as well. I wish to thank @iRage for you time and all the advices given. I greatly appreciate it all Machang. I'm sorry that the whole deal became a buzzkill at the end. Cheers! trinity

Thank you @iRage for the clarification. I get what you mean regarding the older and newer Toyota cars. Where did the Japs go wrong actually is beyond me. They used to build great vehicles with lot of character, now that has long gone. Coming back to the topic, I’ll surely post photos and keep you all updated regarding my experience with the car. Im eager like a kid who’s waiting for a delivery of PS5 bought from US. Hopefully this one will be enjoyable similar to the CS and the EX.

The car has rugged fabric seats as you mentioned and three spoke steering is also there. I think the original cassette player is also included. It does not have an RPM meter though. Rear viper and defogger is available. Will check the car ID plate when I see the car next time. The chassis number starts with EE 103.
-
It has the GL sticker pasted on the rear door. What are the distinguishable differences between the GL and DX variants? How to identify this from the chassis number. This car has fabric seats and does not have power windows. Drove it once in a night, pulls like a train. I’ve already confirmed to my friend that I will be buying the car. So, he needs to find a new car for him and I need to sort out the financials. In about couple of months, I’ll be able to get it. The car is ideal for my purpose. With that in, I can let my Lancer take a breather from running small errands. That car needs some pampering atm.

Holy shit @iRage! Machang, that’s some fantastic set of information. Just as similar to a response from chat GPT. Thank you so much for taking time to write all those valuable details about the car. I need to change the title to the topic as I’ve made an error while mentioning the model, it should be corrected as EE103. The one with the EFI 1.5L engine and the auto box. I want to buy it for my wife. Yeh I know, an odd choice of a car. My daughter started to going to ‘play groups’ since recently. Currently the mode of travel is the tuk. I need this to change as quickly as possible, since it’s not a safe mode to take a kid up and down the Galle road. My requirement is sort of a bigger car, thus better safety than of an alto for the price range of what an Alto goes in the market these days. It needed to be an auto so wifey can get used to it easily (she first needs to get the license though). Yup, lot of boxes to tick before making this a reality. After careful consideration I decided that this would be the car to go for. The other options were, Carina GT, Honda EK or ES, Nissan N16 and Lancer CS. All are above the budget. Luckily a good friend has a fantastic specimen manufactured in 2000 and registered in 2004. He has maintained it to the T. He is willing to part with it only if I’m buying the car. He doesn’t want to give it to anyone else. So before jumping in, I needed to understand about the car a bit so that I know what I’m getting myself on to. let’s keep the thread active. I would love to hear about the car more. Especially about the places I could buy parts when required and about diagnosing issues before they turn in to big ass headaches. I’ll keep the thread updated on the progress of acquiring the car. It might take couple of months as there are some prerequisites that needs to be completed before I get hold of it (hopefully).

Hi Guys, Posting here after eons, hope everyone is keeping fine. Need to know your opinion on buying a Corolla EE 103 (Elephant Back) these days as a second car. I've heard lot of good about the car, but basically clueless about the model. Much appreciated if you could shed some light on areas such as Inherent Issues, most reliable model out of the rage of models, availability of parts, areas to pay attention to before buying a one etc, Thanks in advance for your support. Cheers!
