Major markets usually have better road systems, stringent requirements on vehicle maintanance, better application of road rules, etc.. which contributes overall to a car having what you term as a "better life expectancy" compared to srilankan counterparts.. It's usually more about how the car is looked after, than the Kms run....

Same experience with the Turanza. I think Turanza ER60 was the one that came factory fitted with the civic. I was never satisfied with it's grip, specially during breaking on dry surfaces, and had to replace after about 25k due to wear. Switched to Dunlop LM703 and after about 5000 kms, quite happy so far about performance, wear and looks. However, AR10, (from Thailand I believe) may be different. As there's a specific request, It's better if someone who actually use that can add to this.

Really? and how are you comparing this? surely not by two different makes and models?

OMG! such romanticism... all thanks to the Prius... hmmm.. p.s. - maybe someone should hold the hands of these creeps and walk them down, say, pamankada kohuwala area? they might even meet one of the dudes who can teach a thing or two about odometers...

Common sense tells me that the situations are quite different then and now. Further, there was no tax relief to give attractive pricing and support a sales boom when they first brought it down. Therefore it wouldn't have made sense to talk about a car which nobody was interested in. Now that every monkey and his cousin are bringing some kind of a car down to sell (not to mention the pathetic attempts to use AL forums to sell the stuff), it's reasonable that a responsible agent keep the public informed. Unlike a wayside car sales fellow, an agent, who ever it is, has to get about their business by keeping the entire chain (sales, infrastucture for after sales, technical training, parts, etc..) solidly in place. Hence, until these are in line it's unlikely that they'll compromise their integrety for a few quick bucks. P.S. - In case somebody is interested, I don't represent any of these agents.

Well a good alternative for such people will be a tuk tuk... It does better than a hybrid on fuel, can be purchased at least a couple of million less, can carry equal (or sometimes more) number of people and goods, can breeze through traffic better, and there's plenty of climate controlled a/c..!!

yes, but what are the main terms? for example, did they explain the life time / accepted no of years of depreciation for the battery and the resulting percentage paid for a new battery? To my knowledge, there isn't sufficient data in SL conditions to justify the percentage that can be paid to a new hybrid battery in place of the old one in a claim....
-
Special cover for battery?? Care to elaborate a bit please?

Even if RMV does change the format, why bother wasting time thinking about it? you'll still need to register the new vehicle and simply follow the format in operation at that time...

The brand new 1.8l version of the FD series civic came with cruise control for SL. I was made to understand it was standard spec.. unless the agent was bluffing, this means Honda does consider CC as a value addition / product differentiator for this region..! But I must add though, that those who use this version do say that it's one hell of a useless feature on our roads..
-
One fellow is looking for a fuel efficient Subaru... another is breaking speed records in an Axio.. Nostradamus and others got it right... 2012 is the end of the world..
-
Isn't it kinda illegal to drive at that speed in SL?... this should be a good reason to ban all the axios from "burning" the precious roads..

For the price of about a half a litre of Petrol, you can travel from Colombo to Kandy or Galle in a train... That converts to about 230km/l... way above the Prius.. Conclusion: The train is the most fuel economical vehicle in Sri Lanka... So destroy your non selling prius and bring a few trains...
-
And he wants us to "Buy a Prius from a sale close to you"..... What a looser... things people will do in desperation...

Just out of curiosity... why is it that the good old steering / pedal / gear locks not being discussed / considered, eh? If the idea is to deter a potential car thief, a 'difficult to remove' looking wheel lock might be a better and a far more reliable solution than messing with the circuits of your car through some half baked baas! Besides, how many of you experienced that certain frequencies of the remotes may get jammed in some locations due to various reasons, rendering the whole security system loading process in a mess!

Good thread mate. One more point... Pls stick to the lanes. the dotted lines are to divide the lanes, not for you to crawl on top at 10km/h, blocking the entire road.. if you want to change lanes, put the appropriate signal and do so. If you want to drive slow, stick to the leftmost lane on the road.

No personal offence here... but I do hope, for the sake of a brand with such great potential and following, your friend's entrepreneur genes are more closer to the grandfather than anyone else.. Remember that, these guys turned a blind eye all these years, when everyone complained and kept moving away from the Mazdas due to their crap service... Imagine the service income they would have got on the long run, if people had faith in the agents and chose more from the Mazda 3s or the Axelas during the recent duty cuts.. Mazda brand needs an agent who has the balls to get rid of the assholes in the workshop, update the tools both hardware and software, have a simple feedback method to understand, and more importantly, act on customer feedback... and come out and tell everyone the change is done... p.s. - Mods, you can remove this post if my language is not politically correct...

Vehicle Import Taxes Reduced To 25% What Will This Do To The Market?
seeker replied to chew's topic in General Automotive
Well.. they probably had negative comments when motor vehicle was introduced in place of horse drawn carriages, isn't it? we are talking about a transition of technology here... and the panchikawatte supply and the familiarity and equipment in garages will gradually bulidup with increased demand.. With the current tax structure for the Hybrids, people have the option of going for a fairly new car for much less than the Axios and what not.. I doubt, a brand new Prius, which may be purchased about a Million bucks cheaper than a three year old unregistered Sedan will start giving a load of problems in the initial couple of years... leaving enough time for the supporting maintanance structure to take place in the country.. -

Can you please explain how it has gone up? Do you have the final tax table, which the customs is expected to get? General understanding is that, the effective rate does come down slightly for the given classifications -
Hmmm... forget the Allions... go buy a Prius..

Phew!... that's some 'speaking the heart out', mate.. I'm sure this is inspired by personal preferences than the complaints from better half...

Will There Be A Second Hand Market For Mazda Axela
seeker replied to Lance's topic in General Automotive
Now now.. what's the argument here? we are comparing apple to apple right? We can't be talking Axelas, Axios and FDs and suddenly bring in S2000s... EGs and EKs will be compared with same generations cars that'll fall into the same class.. Axela is a no doubt a step up for Mazda, but that by no way means Honda has given up on the family sedan class.. My Personal experience is the FDs are way better in looks and feel than the ES.. -

seeker replied to Lance's topic in General Automotive
Well... I guess the turning around part is true, but not sure about Honda giving it up.... The new FD series can vouch for that... -
By the way, what's the fuel type U use? 95 or 90? I guess there's no requirement by toyota to use 95 on these Axios, is it? Wonder whether we are likely to see a significant demand increase in the country for 95 octane, which is a bigger burden to the economy... not that the powers that be cares much..
