  1. Oh by the way the topic initiator wants to know why Defenders are not assembled in Sri Lanka right? So lets expand on this positive thinking. Why dont we start assembling Nissan Patrol, Toyota Land Cruiser, Mitsubishi Montero, Nissan Xtrail, Toyota Rav 4, BMW M3?... well how about Aston Martin or Lamborgini? I mean why dont we start assembling them in Sri Lanka? Why not ha? Why should we limit the topic to just Land Rover Defenders? Let's be more positive and add these also to the list. Let's forget about the Sunnys, Corollas and Civics...they are too small compared to the Defender
  2. Now now why do you want to spoil the innocent conversation we were having? So are you also going to buy a scrap plant from Uganda and start manufacturing donuts over here?
  3. One more thing. I just called TVS Lanka. They said all their models are manufactured and assembled in India. However, due to ease of shipping and to minimise damage via transportation, they fix few items in Sri Lanka such as the side mirrors. They do not have a complete assembly plant where they get the parts seperately and assemble over here. They get the total unit with engine etc readily fixed from India but only few items such as the side mirrors are fixed here. It is a shame to call it an assembly I am still waiting for your information on Unic Television. Let's see whether there is any truth behind that at least.
  4. Its a great pleasure to know it. By the way can you direct me to any web material which gives details of Unic TV assembly in Sri Lanka or TVS cycles being assembled in Sri Lanka. Even if they are done here, they are by no means comparable with assembly of motor cars such as Corollas, Civics or Defenders. For the two countries you mentioned, I am still laughing... Their economic placement ahead of us makes me laugh longer
  5. Well the two countries you have taken as examples make me laugh again. I actually cant stop laughing No wonder they remain extremely under developed! I dont think our investors have such a poor sense of business to buy a scrap plant and manufacture outdated models here. Even if they do, our market is so small that they will never be able to recover that investment (Unless those plants are like tents which you can close, bring over here and re-irrect over here and start to produce donuts). Before we think about vehicle plants here, we dont even have simple TVs assembled here. At least if we had motor cycle, scooter which have a bigger market than Land Rovers???? Some one please help me to stop laughing...... This senseless positive thinking is giving me good entertainment early on a Monday morning which is great!
  6. This is the best one for 2010. I couldn't stop laughing....
  7. Look at the registration book. It should carry a note saying "New body installed" or the equivalant in Sinhala. This means that is an RMV approved body permit and an installation. You may also check with RMV when it was last brought for their inspection after the installation of the new body. Make sure the engine number that is actually there on the engine is as same as what is there in the book. The price I guess should be somewhere around 3.4M-3.7M. The owner should also have the body permit with him. Which will have a number of stamps from the RMV. Make sure all these are in order before you invest a big sum since the market is flooded with illegally imported bodies. All the best
  8. Only if you can get those manufacturers to operate before they think about the scales! They got to be having such a bad business sense which is quite unusual! Before they think about Sri Lanka to begin a manufacturing plant they must wipe out China from the map I guess. Beetles singing....Dreeeeeaaam, dream, dream, dream, dream, dreeeeeaam. I wish positive attitudes could do all these.....Makes me laugh
  9. Ok please keep me updated when the positive thinking of this thread gets LR, Jags etc assembled in Sri Lanka. I would like to at least see one assembled over here (since I cant afford to buy one) I believe something is radically wrong with the theories such as "economic feasibility and economies of scale"
  10. This is fantastic! Hey Sri Lankans with the help of this thread Sri Lanka is going to start assembly of most loved vehicles of Sri Lanka. Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sunny, Honda Civic, Mitsubishi Lancer, Mitsubishi Pajero, Nissan Petrol, Land Cruiser, ..... Well BMW 7 series, Mecedes 500 series ++++ phew!!! My FOOT! Do something worthwhile please Better off discussing why Sri Lanka doesn't want to send people to the moon!
  11. This I think is a useless topic. It will have a natural death. No point in arguing why X, Y or Z models are not manufactured here. There is no end to the topic. Well there are plenty of things that are manufactured in other countries which are not manufactured in Sri Lanka (not only vehicles).
  12. Yes a used one should be just fine. I can paint and do it up. Do you know any specific place at Kurunegala that I can try?
  13. I checked with Elc@rd0 yesterday. The price of an Alph@ canopy is between Rs 140,000 and Rs 160,000! There goes my dream in the drain Why did I forget that we are in Sri Lanka....Prbably the country where owning and maintaining a vehicle is most costliest in the world!
  14. Now rather than arguing over Nissan, can we please provide some facts on Micro Trend to the initiator of the thread please?
  15. Vehicle No 2 Nissan Double Cab D22 3200cc Diesel YOM 2004 Manual 7kmpl in Colombo 10kmpl outstations
  16. Done! Thanks a lot
  17. Dear Friends The Alternator belt of my dad's EK3 has broken a while ago. It is a holiday for St@fford Motors so we are unable to buy from them today. Would anyone know the contact number of T*ch Motors Panchikawatte so that I can ask him to buy from there today since tomorrow and day after also St@ffords will be closed? Regards L Board
  18. Thankks everyone for the help. Yes Elc@rd0 is the agent over here. Unfortunately they are closed today and it will be next week when I get in touch with them. The main objective would be proper, bigger and water proof storage space. The second THE LOOKS
  19. I wish to fix an Alpha canopy to my double cab. Does anyone know form where I can buy one?
  20. Hi Sonick. For the interest of the SUV fans, could you let us know whether you bought an SUV and details of your experience with it such as comfort, handling, power and fuel consumption? The current market price too would be handy for the others who are looking for similar SUVs
  21. I think it is a great analysis for all out there. I wish we could see more of this type of objective, fact base analysis for different models. Cheers!
  22. Hey its like this. When you are due for a cash drain, that will come your way one way or the other. That is life. Here at least you are paying for your own fault. Once when I was sick, my mom got my dad's driver to use my car for her to visit a friend. I was not even aware that someone else was driving my car. He ran the car without looking at the temp guage and completely ruined the engine. I had to replace quite a lot of parts and I was without my car for nearly two weeks. At that time (good 8 years back) I had to spend nearly 30K for the repair. I had to pay and suffer for the fault of some other dick and that is life! So take it easy friend. It happens to all of us. Dont rush. Take sometime, look at a few options and you may findout that it is not that bad. I don't think rebuilding will cost you that much and look around...you may find an engine for a lower price. No one will pay 400K for a used engine. That is rubbish!
  23. Do not convert to Diesel! Mark II is not meant for people who are overly oncerned about running cost. So as some other members have rightly commented, either rebuild or replace with a petrol engine.
  24. I am not sure whether this vehicle is still available. Anyway if you are interested: http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=12303
  25. I've been a silent observer of this thread. Looking at the comments, I think you should go for the Tribute mate. Seems like you will love it for life. So go for it!
