Step 1 - service and suspension
john cooper commented on Nate's blog entry in An inexpensive car in Sri Lanka
When you have explained the fuel tank story, I can imagine the tough conversation you may have faced for haggling the price. π Hope the owner's wife made the final decision price π I remember once we had to wait for the owner's wife to come back from work so she make the final decision she came home and lifted the price by 10K, reminding the owner of the service they had done millions of years ago π Please check the fuel light, it may have blown by the high usage π Good luck with the car, I would say "restoration" If the car could speak, it would say "Thank you for saving me!" How to import some car parts for personal use these days?
john cooper replied to banned's topic in General Automotive
My 2 cents, I have sent a few parts to our Prado via Sea cargo on two occasions. Some of the parts cleared in early October, and the second lot cleared not long ago. I wasn't aware of any exclusion list π so I sent what Dad and I wanted to replace for preventive maintenance. Driver side Airbag (The original one was discoloured) Steering wheel (The original one was discoloured) 2 x Clock spring (Bit noisy while turning the steering) Seat belt (driver side) Brake Booster Alternator Full Synthetic 10 - 30 engine oil 20 L 3 x oil filters and Air filters Toyota ATF Fluids Airbox AC coolers for front and back A343f Troque convertor Turbo Awning (New) LED light bar Brake Pads Power Steering rack The only issue I wasn't able to use my foreign duty free allowance due to the goods code used by the freight company. For the 1st lot, we had to pay less than 5000 rupees as tax and then for the recent lot just above 5000 rupees. The process of clearing the goods is beyond a joke, and it involves a manual process from one counter to another, but we were out in about two hours. No commission to any person, not hassled any contacts and no questions asked. Regards, JC -
Hiya, I would encourage you to go for the high engine capacity in the specific car model you are going to settle with. If you are going to drive in hilly country the majority of the time, the higher capacity engine gets the job done with less stress. It would make more sense if you are doing the majority of the driving within Colombo city than to go for the smaller engine model but it sounded like you have a specific reason. One of my Anties in SL used to have a 2009 1.3 Vitz, but now she has a 2010 1.5 Vitz RS with all the bells. She claims RS is more economical on long trips than her previous low-mileage 1.3 Vitz. Sound Near Alternator in Toyota Premio 260 (2013)
john cooper replied to RevTalk's question in Mechanical problems
Hiya, I'm not sure which engine model was planted in your car, but it could be 1NZ-FE, the most common on SL soil. 1AZ and 1ZZ-FE also came with Allion but I don't think so as they both classed "Thel wada karanne na" category. Anyhow, the best way to diagnose, Request the grease monkey to remove the Serpentine Belt, AKA drive belt. Start the engine, as this will stop providing power to the Water Pump, Alternator, AC Compressor, and any of the tensioners. See if you still get the same noise. If yes, the issue could be with the timing chain, the surroundings, or something else serious with other moving internal parts. If the noise stops after removing the Serpentine Belt, then have a cup of coffee, relax, π then diagnose each of the components connected using the Serpentine Belt. Also, do not run the engine for a longer period without the Serpentine Belt, as it reduces Water circulation because the drive to the Water Pump has been disconnected. As op mentioned, it would be good if you could share audio/ video files with the sound. -

When you wanted to be an suv,but mama said be a vanβ¦
john cooper replied to fiat fan's topic in MITSUBISHI
Confirming the P25, 35 or 45 none of them came with coil sprung rear suspension. The Star Wagon that I was referred to as original was a conversion. I do apologize for the mistake! Regards, JC -
Glad to see this running condition masterpiece in SL.

Guys, can I take a turn?? Found this sweet fruit and thought of testing this here. The vehicle is from one of the Famous manufacturers and they were famous for producing budget friendly cars but the majority of them had quality issues big time and hardly any of them were on the road. lol

Regarding the W series and the coils, let me confirm. -
If I am not mistaken they produced only a 2WD variant. Honestly speaking one of my mates bought one back in the early 2000s without realizing it was 2WD. I think the sales guy knew it was not 4WD and let my mate dress up. Kept it for a few years and sold it he hasn't made a loss though, thanks to the Island car market.

@fiat fan Sorry mate, late to the show. Hats off to your decision to go original and please don't go with a plastic crash bar. You will get there for sure since you have the focus! Mine was a P25V with originally two square light models and it was a DX in coffee brown colour. I have seen the original Van photos and I believe they are still at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage office walls. AFAIK there is only βoneβ real genuine P25W Starwagon on the island registered under 57 -5*25, which has been imported under an MP permit around mid 90βs Should have bought it when it was offered for 1mil back in 2001 The rest the P number Van are Harbour auctions so I don't know how genuine they are. Little more about our ex delica: The van actreally has had a history of serving as an Elephant Medical equipment transport vehicle in early life (whoever made that decision, I am sure that person is a real off-road guy, I can't vote any betterVan) During one of the Elephant rescues the van was captured by one of the opposition parties has war with the SL Army and Van was rescued during the peace period and put on sale. π π Feels like buying the van back. πππ -
Best reliable 4WD Truck or Ute in auto
john cooper replied to john cooper's topic in General Automotive
It was more of a good to have thing and ours transferred to the Dadβs name. We are being told the 31, 32, 61, 64, 65, G, H, and J number registered SUVβs wont be able to complete one day's transfer as the RMV investigating a bit of the history of the vehicle. So if your vehicle matches any of the above criteria then expect a bit of a delay. Regards, JC
