  1. Actually the current euro accord looks like pretty good contender. It was 8 mil recon from uk before the tax hike. If not get an A4 1.8t. took a ride in one last saturday. that thing oozes class for this kind of money, more class than the 3 and the c. the premio will be the best investments but lacks class compared to other. if you must get one make sure its got the factory bluetooth option which comes with factory fitted multifunction steering. had the same system in my allion. Miss it everytime i receive a call while driving. But I'd be lying if I said the optima is not the one to have. I'm absolutely bonkers over it. especially in white with the biggest rim choice. However I'm slightly worried about depreciation and much more about the reliability. That's why I think I'd add another million to that and try to find a decent used crown hybrid/lexus gs450h
  2. Nice to see old gems like these brought back to life. weren't these the police cars they had in the original italian job?
  3. I think this is gonna get so big we'll have to make a new section for it. I got a few brochures with me too. 1st gen pajero, lancer "box", 80s mitsu canter, delica po5, mostly in pieces though. but I do have some 90s nissan catalogs in good nick. and some euros too like fiat regata and croma and peugeot 405 and 605. There were some neat jap car ads on our old readers digest collection that went back to 1963. too bad my parents gave it away. Anyway my scanners been down for some time now. will upload some as soon as its fixed
  4. Don't. It works like that for a reason
  5. With some clever tubing and machining I guess you can bypass the waterline and the thermostat. turbocharging a n/a car especially one that's carb fed is pretty hardcore. Dropping in a more powerful carb engine would be cheaper. I guess the best compromise would be to run a twin carb setup on the current engine. If you improve breathing this should be good for about 110 bhp.
  6. Why buy an allion at all? they are stupidly overpriced. You can get yourself a nice honda civic fd1 or an fd4 for that budget which is much much better all round.
  7. No need to use the handbrake unless you are on a really steep hill. if you are new to manuals its hard to get the car moving especially if there's an angry mob behind u honking like crazy at the lights. Just take your time and do this. keep your foot on the brakes.and start releasing the clutch gently. at one point you will feel the rpms dropping slightly. now you got "clutch balance". so while keeping the left foot on the clutch take your right foot off the break while gently feeding in the power. and off you go
  8. If you ask me to pick the best japanese saloon of that vintage it would be the datsun bluebird 510. all independent suspension, unlimited modifying possibilities, even with modern parts. But that's just my opinion. I think you should give up on the idea of finding a GSR dual carb setup. with the car being so rare and expensive even in japan you'll never find those parts here. what you could do is check if the agents can bring down the intake manifold of a dual carb GSR and strap on 2 weber 32/36s to it. If you are on a tight budget see if you change another cars intake manifold to fit yours or machine one out and find coupla cheap double barrel carbs. If I were you I'd have made one myself ages ago. nothing more fun than making your own part when working on a carb engine just because you can.
  9. vegetable oil mixed with certain additives can be used to run old diesel engines. ideally non efi engines. With all the used oils collected from local restaurants its pretty easy to start a commercial project with this considering the number of crude diesels being used in the country. But then again the government would want a massive chunk of it. so forget it. running a domestic vehicle on it is up to you. But I wouldn't take the risk. Save it for some post apocalyptic scenario
  10. Whats up with all the altezzas on classifieds all of a sudden?

Maybe this is the time the BEAMS engines start breaking down? There were at least 4 different Verossas for sale as well since January, and those are cars that rarely hit the classifieds.

I think high fuel prices are really starting to bother our people including petrolheads. saw quite a lot of mark II for sale too.

  12. mate, go with 195/65/14. that's the standard size for a 96-98 noah 2wd.
  13. I would never complain about anything in life ever if I had just those 2 cars in my garage. Yep, a crying shame. wish these people would sit down an learn a thing or two about truly great automobiles than be bonkers for anything red and fast There was a rather enthusiastic gentleman alongside me talking about the aluminium doors, bonnet and boot lid of the csl in front of a rather unimpressed group of people. sums up the whole thing I'd say.
  14. For me the highlight of the show was that immaculate range rover classic. Never seen a late model in such good condition in sri lanka ever. The BMW 3.0 CSL caught me by surprise too. Is that really a CSL? must be worth fortune now.
  15. Don't start making trips to shops just yet. Get the directory and call up a few places and ask them what tyres they have in that size. Or stop by on tyre shops along the way. Three good places out of your way are jayantha tyre near suga and peliyagoda, prince tyre near suga, and amila tyre hill street. All other good places including U&H are on the directory. Then read some reviews or comparisons online and pick one. the only problem is the price they quote first is usually the last price. If everything fails ask U&H about this new tyre called landsail. its chinese alrite but they have a crazy range of sizes right past 20". I got a set of 205/50/16 of them for my insight at just 11200 each. Its a bit on the noisy side compared to jap tyres. but right up there with maxxis and gt. and you get 35000km warranty. Machan also don't dismiss non japanese made japanese brands. They use the same technology and materials nowadays so you get the same brand for less. Dunlop will be the cheapest but I don't know if you can get them in that size over here. yokos and bridgestones should be around 35 with discounts. If you are looking for a cheap alternative try landsail. my cousin got a set of 215/45/17 for his ist at 14500 each. your size shouldn't be a whole lot more expensive than that. Its just like maxxis and gt. So compared to jap alternatives its only failing is its not as responsive in very sudden directional changes at medium to high speeds. On a side not I got the Pirelli P4 four seasons fitted to the noah. very very soft sidewall. very very concerned about not piercing them on some pointy object. Its a bit noisier than the Michelin XM1s they replaced, I can hear a bit of tyre noise at 50+ which I didn't with the XM1s all the way past 70 but its not noticeable unless you really pay attention. Other than that its got a very deep tread pattern. with a treadwear rating of 760 I think they'll outlive the michelins twice. Also they are very very smooth. at 100 I barely felt anything on my hands. Can't wait to make a trip to galle now
  16. Dude I bet you still believe in Santa Claus too
  17. Machan what you have mentioned are re-mappable piggyback ecus for performance applications used by professionals. Its a little confusing but the device tiv is looking for comes factory mapped and is used for more mainstream applications and can be set up by pretty much anyone. I'm sure you can hook up a piggyback to a pickup map it and get more power. but in this application these cheaper pre-mapped plug and play units are the best option.
  18. A really good chip should plug into the obd II port and stay inside the vehicle. So it has access to all functions of the ecu and can be removed instantly. this just seems to alter sensor settings and sends false data to fool the ecu. You probably won't get any performance improvements at all.
  19. This is not the dodgiest they but with the bikini clad girl its pretty chav-tastic. If you really want to chip your pickup go with a trusted brand. I can recommend chipexpress and superchips. Superchips is by far the best and if you get a bluefin device you might be able to plug it to other toyotas too. you can buy both directly from the site with a vat refund and delivery. Anyway if you must get a chip from ebay look at stuff from the other end of the price list. A good chip should be around 50000 rupees or over. When you find a decent looking one google and see if there are any reviews about them. Or simply avoid ones with flames and girls in bikinis in the ad. One last thing though. contact the seller and see if it definitely works with ur engine. if you got your vehicle down from uk get one from a uk based company like the two I mentioned. If not double check cos different regions tend to have different ecus.
  20. I've noticed high 20s several times especially on open country roads. With a bit of effort I'm certain it will hit 30 km/l. Went on the highway coupla days ago with 4 other people on board. on the first run I had econ off and got 19 km/l. on my way back I switched on econ and it gave a better reading on the instantaneous fuel consumption display than before. but I was driving a bit aggressively so again I got 19km/l. Also I got wider 205 section tyres. so on stock tyres with coupla passengers and econ mode on you should be able to hit 25 if you drive decently. Today I left colombo around 730. there was some moving traffic and I was thrashing it a bit when the road opened up ahead. I still got 19 km/l. in rush hour traffic expect something between 10-12 if auto stop is deactivated. the worst was during wesak traffic. 2 hours stuck in traffic and the average dropped to 9km/l without auto stop.
  21. Sure sure! I bet you did 0-100 runs too. otherwise how would you know the prius is exactly half a second quicker?
  22. Machan what about other areas? I'm curious because people advise me against using a land rover everyday forever.
  23. That's pretty brave keeping the clutch stock on land rover of that vintage that's an everyday vehicle Did it breakdown often?
  24. Oh! the prius performed better on the edmunds report and you took it literary? tell us more about other things you learnt just by reading and watching videos on the internet.
  25. First of all I doubt you can find an insight for that kind of money in this climate. a used fit hybrid might be more affordable. But since you are new to hybrids starting off with a mild hybrid like the insight or the fit is best. I got an insight and I get 20km/l wherever I go If I don't get caught in long jams. But in heavy traffic it burns fuel like an ordinary 1.3 unless auto stop is activated. Performance wise its quicker than most of the cars you meet on the road especially off the line. pretty easy to get the wheels spinning. But at high speeds the car runs on engine power alone so it becomes an ordinary 1.3 with a lot of bulk. The best part is handling. the steerings sharp and communicative and it grips pretty well around corners. Finally if something goes wrong with the hybrid system you can still drive the car with its engine as long as you like, which you can't do with any other hybrid. Btw who told you the prius is quicker? Maybe a 3rd gen model on a good day. people say its more powerful because the engines bigger. but they are atkinson cycle engines and you really don't get much power out of the engine. its the electric motor that compensates. and they are a lot heavier so they aren't fun to drive.
