  1. Just saw a 1982 van advertised in AL with 37000 on the odo! WoW!!!!

    1. maheshw

      maheshw

i guess the meter panel has re stored.

  2. Moral of this thread: If you want to ask a simple question, talk absolute BS, troll, state the obvious as if it was something discovered yesterday, promote some crap and in general, be the puppet master of the forum, all you need to do is to create a feminine profile!
  3. Mr. Wijesinghe, Yes. Please do and let the forum know what happens. It would be better if you can take some photos of you with the maruti van 'before' and 'after' adding 2T. and if you are planning to do any long runs during that 200km, may I suggest keeping a tool kit and an injector cleaning fluid handy? Sincerely, Crosswind
  4. Is it a 206 or 206SW? Don't have much of an idea about the fuel figures but the SW may consume a tad bit more, owing to the weight of the vehicle.
  5. There are places in slave island area, which sell the aerosol cans used in aircraft on the grey. If you look around, you may find those. I really doubt if the AC is the culprit for the recurring viral attacks. Look for people whom you come in to contact with. Do you have schooling kids? They might be the carriers of the virii.
  6. Exterior - body of the car. any car wash place will do, unless there are minor scratches, in which case, you will need to do a cut and polish. Interior - Seats and other components in the passenger compartment - bit tricky. two of my favourite places are larco in mount lavinia and the place just after the bridge in parliament road (approximately opposite KFC/Hameedias)
  7. Wonderful. Despite Sylvi's conversation with him, this car is advertised on alibaba.com Which probably means he's trying to pull off an international fraud. The chances of him getting caught is far higher if he tries to pull it off in Sri Lanka. Call me a nihilist, but I'd love to see his responses if someone (with a foreign accent) calls from overseas.
  8. The point was not about buying a car which has been rear-ended. The point is about fraud. Before Praboda Fernando edited his original post, he claimed that if he can import this car for FOB Rs. 900k, he can repair and sell it for a good profit. That was more or less the exact wording. If Praboda Fernando (or anyone else) sells a accident-repaired car disclosing the fact that it is a repaired car, then no one in this forum would have a problem. The whole point is he's trying to peddle a repaired car for a good profit. That's why him, his wife and his 'hathmuthu paramparawa' deserves to be insulted. @Kavvz - you have seen the edited version of Praboda Fernando's post.
  9. So you wouldn't mind buying this car after Mr P. Fernando fixes it up and claims its an accident free car?
  10. Whoever paid Cali to market Priuses must be kicking themselves for hiring the village idiot.
  11. Mr. Wijesinghe, Just because your neighbour got nano taxis doesn't mean three wheelers are going to go out of business. If you check the classifieds in weekend sinhala papers you would know how many nanos are now up for sale because the guys who are running as taxis have given them up. It could be just a passing fad (in sinhala, we call it a 'rella') like the soluna taxis we had sometime back. Sincerely, Crosswind
  12. DO you mean to say Prius doesn't emit Carbon Monoxide? Have u mixed up your prius with some plug-in hybrid? Could you please do us all a favor and breathe some exhaust fumes from your prius?
  13. My advice for all members is not to go to this place. They are bloody expensive and their work is not any different from any roadside A/C repair joint. This is from personal experience.
  14. u mean this 'wind-powered' car? sorry if im trolling here
  15. How about this one for a restoration project: http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=48503 Interesting to note that this was made before the silly Canadians started driving on the wrong side of the road! There's another Chevy 'SUV' that I am aware of, lying in a house in Nawala without much attention. It's a vehicle that looks a bit like the old Toyota FJ55 and its made in early 70s.
  16. The place you are talking about, is in Kandawatta road, opposite Rocell in Nawala road. I too can vouch for the quality of their work but they come a tad bit expensive.
  17. Sambar Dias is the one owned by this guy Just kidding. I believe Sambar Dias is the 4WD version.
  18. For a car of that vintage, I believe you really have to check for signs of corrosion and catloy at critical places. You may also want to check for signs of undercompression. I believe any other problems could be sorted out fairly easily. Newer the better (16- or 17- perhaps), 5 forward is more 'marketable' than 4 forward, 1.5ltr (not sure if that's KE74) might be the better option depending on your usage, high roof models of corolla wagons tend to fetch a premium due to additional space. Regarding the differentiation between models, take a look at the link I posted earlier. C12 has a better suspension than the KE7X as well as the looks but Corolla wagons were generally produced for longer time spans than their sedan versions unlike lancers. Therefore, spares availability is much higher.
  19. Cars get wasted if cheapskates buy them for cheap and not do any maintenance whatsoever. It's hardly the fault of the product. That's something common with Koreans, Euros as well as Japs. Believe me, I have seen wasted AE110s (I remember one with a baiya that couldn't be sold for the price tag of 1.45 mill, even with the English number plate it had, because the cheap-ass paint job and the quick engine clean-up was just not enough to cover its problems). Key is to find a good car, even if you have to pay a premium.
  20. KE72. Spares are still ample, does quite well on fuel and an all-round workhorse. but I believe it doesn't come with power steering, unlike C12. C12 looks better (at least for me) though. Edit: didn't see the 'best resale value' part. even then, it's still the DX wagon Some more info:
  21. May I suggest locking the thread and moving on with our lives?
  22. If you can ask your friend to open a Paypal account, you can pay through a credit card.
  23. My guess is, the guy got down one of the millions of electric cars made in china and added the batmobile starter-kit to it and now trying to pull a fast one.
  24. Dude, you need to post your requirements... Is it fuel economy? Maintenance? appearance? newer car? auto? manual? hatchback? sedan? petrol? diesel? Pls note that you cant have it all too... so be a bit more precise... Rio is a good car but try to get the facelift model and preferably a one imported brand new to sri lanka. Less common cars that you can get for this budget include: Kia Picanto, ford laser BHALP, Hyundai Getz, Hyundai accent, Chery QQ, Fiat Punto, Micro Trend (hafei Lobo), Daihatsu Charade G200-series, Peugeot 406 D8, Maruti Wagon R (older version), Renault Laguna (older version), Proton Waja etc. etc... As you can see, the possibilities are endless...
  25. The guy has advertised this on alibaba.com. It seems he's trying to help the Sri Lankan economy by earning some much needed foreign currency. Good luck to him
