  2. cheers mate..... lovely looking car you have there, best version of the normal carina.... hope it'll give you uears of trouble free motoring,,,,
  3. thats okay machan, i asked the same question when i was new here too.... well you know old cars ne bung, esp when they havent been used for ages and then are being used everyday..... mechanicals are mostly ok, but i have a rear wheel wobble that neds to be checked out, and also machan im getting some parts down, small stuff..... need to get them fitted..... oh and the paint on m roof's f'd up..... so that needs to be scraped and done..... didnt have cash to do a scrape n paint on the roof earlier, so it was just sprayed..... can see the payback now
  4. As Far As I Know machan wow third owner huh? thats pretty cool, and the alloys are original you say?? thats nice man...... its very difficult to find one like that.... anthony's car has had all the tinkering done and they're now going to scrape it paint i think..... hes really going to town with that car machan..... it'll be perfect when its done i think...... mine has quite a long way to go to get to that standard...
  5. ah thats great to hear...... glad to help mate, i took a look around ur ride the other day when it was there btw.... its pretty cool, AFAIK hatch versions of that generation of colt are pretty rare in SL, and you seem to have got a pretty good example..... where did you buy it from??
  6. het man, i dunno abt the lights, but how's ur car doing these days? i saw it at the garage a cpl of times....... hope you're haappy with the place mate.... cheers S_N
  7. and he's here....... bit shorter than usual though mate......
  8. i think he was just joking...... even im suprised friend nilantha hasn't dropped in yet saying "Dont buy nissan go for toyota, not just a car valuable investment, bla bla bla....." anyway in answer to the question mate, 1.35 million is a tad too high.... going by those in the AL classifieds and the papers, late FB14's should be going for around 1.25 tops...... so id suggest you look around a bit more..... thre are several FB14's in the AL classifieds at the moment.. also, for that kind of money, you should be able to get your hands on a mint mid 90's AT192 Carina..... the reg number will be older, but that doesnt really matter a jot if its in good condition...... its a rather better car than a FB14, and no less economical either.

4.5 to 5? that doesnt sound very realistic considering the time im having with another type of 4.7 V8........ 3-3.5 city seems a bit more likely in real world driving...
  10. no suprises there innit? and you already expressed that viewpoint......
  11. mate, theres PERCEPTION, and then there is FACT, friend nilantha seems to have confused the two, which is why i sort of lost my bottle there. if you read his previous posts, ALL of them in fact, the term "narrow minded" just might occur to you. as i said previously, perception be damned, toyotas are unexceptional cars... they are decently built, very reliable, economical and cheap to run..... that said however, they are also completely soulless, not really an enjoyable drive, and they are simply EVERYWHERE toyotas are all too often the safe and sensible option when buying cars, most people buy them because EVERYBODY buys them.....I dont disagree with that, its just that, as people who claim to love cars, all of us here SHOULD at least offer some realistic (and more interesting) alternatives OR discuss things weighing pros and cons. Friend Nilantha has lamentably failed to do either. and incidentally, i am NOT a toyota hater...... I love toyota 4x4's (have two in the family), one of my all-time favourite cars is the mark 4 Supra, I love the AE86 Sprinter trueno and Corolla Levin, and very much like the AE100 Ceres/Marino and the AT210/212 Carina GT
  12. thats also an option, though the N16 tends to be rather thirstier than the other cars mentioned.... btw machan theres no "group" as such, just one lost soul who cant see beyond the Toyota badge on his bonnet...
  13. many happy returns of the day mate....... hope you have a good one!!
  14. hi vista, well considering your list of requirements you probably would be best buying a swift 1. the Ae 110 is an old car now, launched in '97 so the basic design is 10 years old, while the swift is much more modern..... also, despite the general impression of "unbreakability" Ae110's and the like are still old cars, as The Don said, the majority will have had their mileage readjusted, so who really knows what kind of repairs you will be in for? 2 .for the best peace of mind within your budget, id say the swift is a VERY good option, did you check the one in the AL Classifieds? http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=3205 the only thing that counts against it is probably space, and the design does hinder rear visibilty a little bit.... that said however it is very well built (on a TOTALLY different level to Maruti products), fun to drive and quite economical as well, especially if you get the manual... 3. all things considered, perhaps its best to forget the city (i assume you're talking about the old model? not the current, tall one?) again, the design is old and its not built all that solidly..... as an alternative, you could perhaps consider an AT210 Carina or a CT 210 Corona Premio, you shoul be able to get your hands on one at the upper end of your budget..... but again, they ARE old now.... so anyway hope this helps, good luck and good hunting S_N
  15. man, do you work at toyota or something?? or do you live in some weird parellel unierse where toyotas are the ONLY vehicles around? id like to draw your attention to this thread, post number 32 http://forum.autolanka.com/index.php?s...amp;#entry51845 toyotas are not created by some supernatural power, they are CARS just like everything else, they last because they are built well, just like MOST OTHER JAPANESE CARS..... so will you please see some sense for heaven's sake??? just FYI i dont dislike them, i like toyota 4X4's especially a LOT, plus we have used two Ae110's in the recent past and we swapped the last one for....... A NISSAN. which we prefer honestly..... perhaps you should attempt to drive other brands of cars as well? OR, you can refer yourself to toyota to help with their propaganda, as you seem to be one heck of a satisfied owner....
  16. Actually the Alto is a fairly acceptable car, which would actually be a GREAT choice if it was priced lower (I noticed in the "permit" ads that the CIF Value is approx $5000 )... the design of the alto isnt very old, it was made in japan around 2002, so it is MUCH more modern than the 800.... which basically is a 1984 version of.... A Suzuki Alto! i do completely understand and accept the logic behind people's decisons to buy marutis..... That said however, dont see myself ever getting one, even a swift, because for 1.0-2.0 million, the range of used cars you can get is HUGE..... if i were in that price range i'd be looking at anything from an E30 3 series to a 156..... simply another league for enjoyment.... and i wouldnt mind putting up wth the occasional repair... but thats just me...
  17. the story was actually featured in the back pages of the Daily News today, (without photos of course )
  18. Stafford wont confirm anything, but some of the warning messages in th car (airbags, etc) are written in English and Thai, which might provide a broad hint as to the fuel consumption, a friend of mine bought one of the first 1.8's (Auto) that came into the country in 06, and the car is drven very carefully wth no caning whatsoever, and in colombo it returns a confirmed 6.5Kmp/l.... staffords claim of 10 was matched on a run outstation.... ivtec or not, this is NOT an economy car.... the manual version (and possibly the paddleshift) will perhaps do better.... interestingly enough, the 1.6 is ALSO claimed to give 10kmpl by stafford.. realstically, my guess would be around 8-9 for the Manual Cheers
  19. Many Happy Returns of the day Gummybr!!!!
  20. i heard something along the lines of some court stating that neither the IGP nor the Transport Minster have any right to ban tinted vehicles.....
  21. errm, I've ridden in about two, but never driven one..... but my impressions of the car Pros (in addition to the above) reasonably quick for such a tiny engine (because it weighs next to nothing, however IMO my 38 Year old VW can give it a run for it's money..) and the engine is fairly eager too. cheap to maintain, and parts are inexpensive and generally freely available.. Cons Safety features - zero, if you have a crash in one of these, chances are that you're going to get hurt pretty badly. Its also not very well built, in order to keep costs down, the materials used are NOT the best, and they are not very sturdy, which is why even cars that are a couple of monhs old start looking tired.. Ride - Crap... and most of all, its O-L-D.... dont forget that this is basically the 1984 Suzuki Alto, minus the build quality of the japs, so the design is basically 23 years old!!! in india it sells for the equivalent of about 400,000 SLR, at which price you can just about see the point.. but at current SL prices, you're DEFINITELY better off with the above mentioned old toyotas, or if you MUST have a Brand New car, saving up for the Alto.... which is rather better.
  22. GrandCivic machan do you think he will have the original foglights for an ES1 Facelift model(the final version)?
  23. seems like it was an awesome day...... im kicking myself for not making it!!!!
