Need Advice On Repairs + Modifications
Supra_Natural replied to Croozer's topic in General Automotive
hey mate welcome to AL.... be warned, it can get addictive Incidentally, your screen name is almost the same as one of A/L' most famous members, as a tad confused for a second there. to clarify your questions, *a shift knob is indeed a gearknob *a gauge is what is reffered to here as a Meter *to define a ricer, i will quote from urban dictionary (please note: NO OFFENSE INTENDED!!!) 1. ricer (Ricer: from the latin word Ricarius meaning to suck at everything you attempt) A person who makes unecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to): - Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder - Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747 - Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool - Expensive rims that usually cost more than the car itself - Bodykit to make the car appear lower, usually accented with chicken wire - Clear tail lights and corner signals - A "performace intake"- a tube that feeds cold air to their engine usually located in areas of excessive heat (behind or on top of the engine) - Most of these riced cars (a.k.a. rice rockets or rice burners) are imports; Honda Civics, Accords, Integras, CRXs, RSXs, Del Sols Mitsubishi Eclipses, Lancers, Subaru Imprezas, however there are some domestics such as Chevrolet Caviliers, Dodge Neons, Ford Focus; small, slow, economy cars designed specifically to go slow. Please note that some Supras, Skylines, WRX's and other higher performance imports are designed to go fast, and are therfore not always considered rice. It really depends on the severity of the case. The "ricer" attempts to make their car "performance" by adding the modifications listed above. These ricers are not confined to any one ethnic group or color, however different ethnic groups are known for certain styles. Honda Civics with big spoilers and 4" exhaust tips are considered to be ricers. -
you realize dont you mate that all of the above CAN feasibly be replaced without too much expenditure on the part of the seller? he can easily offset whatever cost he might have incurred in the replacement in his selling price.. the only real problem in this scenario would be in the case of the airbag, in other countries rogue ar dealers apparently get around the issue by completely removing the bag and the associated electronics..... letshope our chaps never catch on to this.... in the end, the only way you can be 100% certain of a car's mileage is if you order it new....
-
That looks pretty good mate....
-
The fuego is a pretty interesting car, but it CAN be problematic may i suggest as an alternative, the Mtsubishi Celeste?? it's in the same category, and may be less difficult to maintain and run...
-
Very true ash.... KC2626, i think your best choice mate, if it's possible, would be to switch cars..... from what i understand of your requirements from your car.... the 20v primera is probably not the perfect choice...
-
hmm, well the shocks that come on the 20V ARE different to those on the standard car, so mixing original fronts with standard car rears probably isnt a good idea..... maybe you should try replacing all 4 with originals... the Agents can probably get them down for you... as to your question about how Renaults/Alfas ride AND handle, well the answer is that they have been set up for euro roads, where the conditions are somewhat different from japan.... which is where the 20V has been set up for... Anyway euro cars are better in general at providing a ride/handling compromise than the japs.... in Most jap cars you can either have a very comfy ride OR excellent handling.... its rare to get both. So if what you're looking for is a car that offers the ride/handling ability of a Renault or Alfa.... then the only thing you can do is ditch the 20V and buy a Renault or an alfa..... Seriously though mate.... you need to figure out exactly what you want from your car....what's priority, ride or handling?? or do you need a combination of both...
-
ours is a Standard car, Autobox... (Non CVT), 2.0 Ltr engine, only non standard item is that it has alloys.... so yours is the 20V then... it DOES come with a different set up, and that car is WAY different from standard, although it looks similar..... but did you say you have body roll?? thats odd.... have you changed your shocks?? that COULD be the problem.. also, if i were you, i wouldn't mess with the suspension set up if you have the SR20VE, that engine is pretty powerful, so altering the suspension (unless you're going to make it lower and stiffer, but obviously thats not what you're after) is probably NOT the best idea... btw mate, what color is your car?
-
Man Lalithster... thats one A-M-A-Z-I-N-G Ride you've got there bro.... I'd give my right arm to own one of those.... sadly, with the current situ here, I'm probably just as likely to be able to buy a concorde...
-
Errm, firstly, what kind of primera do you own? is it a 20V? because if i remember correctly, the standard spec primera rides fairly decently on broken roads, it's the handling that is problematic (I say this because we have one at home.... a standard car) in general mate, messing with the suspension on your car is not reccomended.... it was set up that way by the manufacturer for a reason after all.... but if you've got doubts, why not take it to the agents and get your suspension checked first, to see if there's anything wrong?

Supra_Natural replied to MADZ's topic in General Automotive
Hey guys been a bit busy so been off the forums for a while... but i've gotta say GREAT IDEA A/L!!! Guess a lot of us have been looking forward to this for a long time..... btw, wonder whether theres gonna be an SUV class? seriously though, if the bug is ready, i'll bring that, will be a surwe candidate for "Slowest car of the day" -
Thanks miniace my dad used a facelifted 124 diesel for a short while as well some time ago, a friend borrowed his vehicle and gave it to him... it was a 200 diesel so it was dog slow... but apart from that it was a very nice car... and felt as solid as a bank vault... Im looking for as late a car as possible... and it has to be fairly low mileage as well, a 300 or 301 plate if possible, and preferably petrol
-
yeah machan, they ARE good value.. but they came with a suspension set up that was quite different to th euro cars, with raised ride height, whch was good for crap roads but as you can imagine, was detrimental to the handling,,,, plus, the extra height makes them look rather odd...
-
thanks for the link mate... sure.. ts a 2000 Model D9, (UK Spec) 1.8 GLX, registered here in about 2005-ish... the going rate is anywhere between 1.9-2.1 million.. depending on condition etc... ours is in fairly good nick.. the price bracket i mentioned was the approximate value of the 406 machan... lets take it as abt 2-3 million though,,,
-
Hi guys The Merc W124 is a Model i've always liked a lot, and i must say the international reputation that model has for solidity is near legendary... i know that they arent exactly the last word in driving pleasure, but they are very comfortable cars, and they aren't THAT bad to drive either. we're Thinking of getting rid of the 406, and in that price bracket the w124 is one of the cars that appeals... sure its older, and nowhere near as fun to drive, but apart from that what do you think? id appreciate it if you could answer these questions.. 1) what year are the last German manufactured cars thaat are in SL? i'd prefer the german car to the indian version... 2) whats the fuel Consumption Like? 3) What is the current market value for a petrol model (200/220 etc) 4) How are the running costs? 5) and what is the ideal spec? I was thinking of a late e220 as the optimum choice.. 6) last, are there any problems this model has? I'd appreciate your views... Cheers S_N

but then you lose whatever ride quality the RR has... its got Live Axles Front And Rear so convert to coils and the ride will become pretty basic... and your very right about the reliability factor fuzzo, even P38 Owners say that they dont usually consider going outstation without another vehicle in convoy..... preferably a Landcruiser...

Behind the Grille.... there are flaps in the grille that open when the lights are switched on.. They do look rather alright... esp for a jap economy car... but seriously mate compare 'em with this dash... just pure class.... and the auris is a 2006 model, this was 40 YEARS before that !!!!
-
Spot on machan, it's the dash of a 1966 Dodge Charger this is the car IMO one of the best looking american cars... (its replacement was even better though..) and it has a 7.0 Ltr HEMI V8,,, 425BHP straight from the factory awesome cars man , just imagine driving one... i got the pics from a google search machan, the dashboard pic from a wiki articlei think..
