  1. Please excuse the ignorance, but can someone educate me as to what a Bowler Wildcat is?? I've heard of the manufacturer, but i don't know the vehicle..... I can't seem to get the link to work.... something up with my browser. thanks
  2. oh?? sorry machan, my experience of Eg8's has been solely carb models...... can't claim to have first hand knowledge of a VTEC car....... merely passing on info that a friend who has driven both gave me....... apologies.......
  3. Try Googling it...... you usually can find some useful links........
  4. I dunno machan, not heard of anyone....... plus, that damn dashboard is all electronic.... might stop working alltogether if one of our johnnies tampers with it......
  5. Thanks, Yes will do that....
  6. Um yeah..... It was supposed to be a Deterrent to drunk drivers....... and it was done by the cops, the boards next to the cars had the 1-1-9 Emergency No. on them.... of course anyone who saw the wrecks can tell that nobody IN those cars could have even got seriously hurt, much less died....... so the effectiveness of the whole thing is called into question...... Novel idea though
  7. Yeah Machan.... If it's properly tuned a Dual Carb will do 11 Even if you're driving it hard...... yes if you are really going after a VTEC, and you can spend for it (Prices ARE pretty high now) go for it.... but you should drive an MX first.... a well kept one might suprise you! the thing with the MX is the low down response to the throttle...... the VTEC is a Lovely car, but you have to Rev it to get the performance properly..... the MX pulls from almost no revs...... well, at least the car my friend has (1992, Stock Engine) does!!! Cheers
  8. Hi Duncan. The Smoke Emitted is thick black... there has never been any blue or white smoke.... Thanks, yes I think i will get a compression test done...... and yes the injector pump recalibration and checking of the injectors Has been done.... T>L stated that they couldn't give a firm word at that point.... that was about 20k ago..... they said to bring it back after some time....... so you think i should take it though? they aren't exactly cheap, and i really can't be bothered going there and paying to hear the same thing all over again.... Thanks for the Help.
  9. Thanks man, Starting is not a problem..... the oil changes have been carried out regularly as well.... It has lead a fairly hard life, with lots of trips outstation and high speed runs..... personally i'm not satisfied with the condition it's in, will have to convince the guv'nor...... Thanks again
  10. Hey guys, My dads vehicle is a 1995 Toyota Landcruiser KZJ 77. It is NOT the Prado model, but the one brought in brand new..... the engine is the 1KZ-T 3.0 Liter turbodiesel, and It has 252,000 on the clock.... the head was replaced once abot 5 years ago due to a coolant problem..... The issue is that the vehicle is a lot more sluggish than it used to be, and also emits a bit of black smoke under acceleration (not excessive), which it didn't do earlier...... one garage said that the engine needed to be repaired around this time..... but a family friend from NZ, who is a qualified mechanic said no need..... I don't agree with him but my dad does..... Toyota Lanka was inconclusive abot the issue.... Does anyone have any ideas what to do?? i'd appreciate the help Thanks a Lot
  11. Hi Sajith This is just a personal opinion, but If you are looking for a balance between performance/economy,and if you don't have your heart set on a VTEC.... you might do well to give the dual carb MX model a try as well...... on paper it might be a bit down on power compared to the VTEC, but speaking from experience, on the road, it certainly doesn't feel it!!! also if you've tuned it properly, you can get around 11km/L.... even driving it hard..... Cheers
  12. Is this what you've been doing the whole night?????
  13. Definitely...... we've had a couple of hondas in the family (including an Eg8 bought B'new) and now have a peugeot... so i can safely say that If a car is a great drive.... us petrol heads will forgive it a LOT!!!!! but the key to the EG8 is really how good your mechanic is..... a good friend of mine has a 1992 MX (Dual Carb) absolutely stock apart from a HUGE Tailpipe...., that has Fantastic acceleration...... and if driven carefully it gets 10-11km/L, But it Does need to be kept in tune..... Good luck with your hunt man
  14. Oh yeah.... This Is especially silly when it comes to the sportscar market..... a great car is a great car WHATEVER THE NUMBER!!!!!!! and it's also perfectly possible to have a 96 car on a J Plate!!!! such is life
  15. By the way, Peugeot made a 3.0ltr V6 Version of the 406...... 197 and then later 210 BHP, it got rave reviews when it came out...... does anyone know if there are any here??? and is there any way to find out?
  16. The figure they quote on the websites and brochures are usually based on an ideal situation (constant speed, top quality fuel, etc) that would be VERY hard to replicate, in sri lanka anyway.... I Checked one out at A*W some time ago, the base model Manual should do around 13-14Km/L once it's properly run in... which seems about right.
  17. Has a venue been finalized? I'm new to the forum, and i'd like to meet everyone..... Thanks
  18. Thanks for the input, Yes things do loosen and there are a few rattles coming from inside the doors too.... i think i'll try the foam and paper idea..... when the Knob that moves the vent left and right came off i used blu-Tack!!! ah well... the drive makes up for it Thanks Man, yeah, the speedo actually IS electronic, so it could be a sensor bug, or as milindu has said, could even be that the mileage was messed with in the Uk and this is the result..... Yes my car was assembled at the Ryton (i think thats the name..) plant in the UK... in october 2000. so i gues it's a combination of Age and the tropics..... as to the 307, personally i'm not a huge fan.... it's too much like an MPV for me... especially compared to the 306!! and they have loaded it with a lot of gizmos that seem to distract you from the driving..... which, when you give it a proper run, is not all that enjoyable, for me anyway.... but the older pugs (i:e: anythin with a 6 at the end ) they are superb..... lets just say that after the 406, i don't think I'd properly enjoy ANY other normal 4 door saloon...... it's THAT great....... Anyway, Thanks a lot.... cheers
  19. I Was wondering about the W124 Model...... A friend of my dad had one (an E200 Diesel) and sold it for 2 mill about 3 years back..... but I recently saw an ad that said something like 3.5 Mill for a 230TE (Estate) in the Motor mag....... Was that a one off?
  20. Hi Guys, I've got a 2000 model Peugeot 406 1.8 GLX Manual.... Used in the Uk and brought down here. It's a Brilliant car to drive, with great refinement and super handling..... but it has had a constant series of issues..... and some annoying little failiures that can become quite a hassle... Number one is the Speedo..... Quite often, very suddenly, and with no discernible reason, it just cuts out totally...... this happens sometimes first thing in the morning, or even at completely random times of day..... and after awhile it just comes back on....... this is highly annoying , and even potentially dangerous.... Two is the Odometer.... When we got the car, it read 53,000 odd Miles. but about two weeks in, Me and a pal took the car for a long, hard run ... and when we got back, the damn thing was reading 470,000 miles!!!!! no thats not a mistype, it really did have six figures!!! since then it has counted from there and now reads 498000...... plus, the plastic clips that hold the Air Vents into the Dash have somehow disintegrated...... which means that said vents are very loosely fixed.....they can fall of if tugged..... Has anyone else gonne through these issues with a 406? And any suggestions as to what I can do? I would really appreciate input..... I was wondering if it had anything to do with this being a UK car...... Thanks
  21. A Friend of mine has a V2 and It really does not do well on petrol. 7-8 around colombo is the norm.... which is pretty bad for a small car..... My 406 can manage that!!! But it pulls quite well..... it has a 1.4L and it is pretty lightweight.......also the interior fittings are not THAT well made, and they can fall apart after a couple of years..... Seriously though, whats your budget like? you may be better off with a Used Starlet or a March or something..... far less trouble overall, and they will hold their value better too.....
  22. Heres to Fast Cars, Great Drives, and Smoked Rubber........ A Big Thank you to The Autolanka Team for putting together such an amazing Site and Community, and may 2007 take you to new heights. Happy New Year Everybody, Long live the Brotherhood of the Open Road!!!
  23. Oh I See....... Thanks Anyways... GT350? as in SHELBY????? Those are fantastic man!!!!!!!! Botswana is a unusual place to find one though isn't it? has it been raced there or something? anyway, thanks and happy holidays...
  24. yeah cool car........ was it down here tho? cos don't think i've ever seen one here......
  25. look man, no ones trying to cut u out or anything...... what you need to understand is that Sri Lanka is a bit different from the grea US of A.......... the stuff available to us here is WAY different from what you get there...... we make do with it, and we are proud of our cars....... so if some joker sits in the states and makes noise, naturally a whole crowd of ppl will get pissed..... and u didn't help matters with your subsequent comments, not to mention dialect....... in the end theres no point polluting the threads with insults....... thanks for the link....... and hope in future you will understand the situ a bit more before u comment...... Cheers
