belated wishes bro... been offline for the last 3 days... many apologies for my lateness. hope it was a great one.

The civic Eg8 is a pretty decent car, the reason its priced less than the toyotas of similar age is because as i said earlier, people in SL imagine that toyotas are somehow better than everything else (Friend Nilantha is a good example of this misguided view)..... this is by the way ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE... the car in the classifieds seems to be a good one, you might be able to get it for less as well..... and civics also tend to hold value now since they are quite popular. if it is a Single carb model you will get 10-11 in town with ease... Twin carbs a bit less... if its a VTEC it's about there as well as long as you dont floor the throttle too much.
-
once again, thank you for your valuable piece of advice...... how are those shares looking? payed you a decent dividend yet??
-
i think he meant G16B , overdose of Honda on the brain im guessing

a latest (121) model toyota wagon is going to set you back at least 3 million rupees.... so you're father is going to have to loosen his purse quite a bit more...' if 1.0 mill is your limit and you want something brand new, your only choices are Maruti 800's and perhaps Altos, maybe even the Chery QQ the only toyota you're gonna get at that price as Pericles pointed out, is going to be 10-15 years old...... minimum as for why Nissans are cheaper than toyotas, its because the SL market imagines that toyota magically makes better cars (some members here also share this theory), something that is patently NOT true.

you seem intent on choosing the Safe\Boring option of a corolla i see...... well its your choice after all mate, but i honestly think you will enjoy yourself more if you looked into some of the other ideas here as well before making a buy... and i don't think you can find unregistered 100 series corolla wagons anymore. they are all 10+ years old after all, Milindu might be able to enlighten you more. anyway just my 2c.. good luck with the hunt Cheers
-
thanks dude. well now we have an 04 jap spec exi.... nothing fancy, just gets the job done.... i guess i would have liked it better if the car that it replaced wasnt a Pug 406
-
yes they are built well, and IMO more interesting to drive than a same segment Toyota/Nissan..... FYI arc i actually like civics because we've had 4 of them over the past 13 years, starting with a 94 Eg8 and going through 3 ES8's.... still have one in fact and i much prefer it over a corolla or sunny....
-
im not. well not much anyway thing is, i think values of civics are artificially high compared to other cars of the period, some cars like the Marinos honestly offer a better VFM package than a civic would in the current situ... and since this guy is lookin for Value as a priority....

hi nuwan, welcome to AL, good to have you on board...... if your budget is around 1.1 million, there are several different choices you have, so dont limit yourself to corollas....... FB14's can be found around that price quite easily, doctor sunnys are around 800,000... as Kim said, a good choice might be the Toyota Ceres/marino..... this is a nice car because you get the simple mechanicals of the corollas in a much nicer looking body. also, you should be able to pick up Nissan Pulsars and Mitsubishi Lancer Ck's at that price as well. The Autolanka Classifieds is a good place to start your search... A couple of FB14's http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=4096 http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=4011 A Pulsar http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=4220 A Mitsubishi Lancer CK http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=4163 A Ceres and a Marino http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=4127 http://www.autolanka.com/ad.asp?ID=4204 you should be able to get all of these within your budget with a little negotiating...... and keep in mind that some of them might need a bit of repairs here and there to get them in good shape. good luck with the hunt!

Best Suv For Permits - New Poll With Actual Choices
Supra_Natural replied to madmax's topic in TOYOTA
lots of votes for the montero sport i see..... im not too sure about that vehicle as if i recall correctly it is based on the L200 Pickup, which doesnt make for a very comfortable vehicle... my vote would be for the Kia Sorrento, its actually a suprising vehicle, way better than you'd expect it to be..... -
Best wishes Peri... may it be a tyre smokin', adrenalin pumping 98 RON celebration!
-
purely bad marketing..... David Peiris were so wrapped up in selling three wheelers that they sorta forgot they had a really great brand of car hanging around the showrooms as well.... the Mondeo is a lovely car, smart looking, well put together (SUPERB interior) and fantastic to drive as well.... but they are going amazingly cheap here, 2 - 3mill is the range i've seen so far.... simply brilliant value, if i had the dough to spare, i'd snap one up in a flash...
-
ah right, I actually was scratching my head for a bit...... well well, into each life a little rain must fall they say, and I guess the same is true for any automotive forum...... clearly the trend of "know it alls" joining up hasn't ended quite yet...

i have no words........ honestly how could ANYBODY be that dumb?

and why may i ask, does he "Have" to do that? -
drive only outstation!! just kidding well try and apply as little throttle as possible, avoid abruptly flooring the accelerator when overtaking and such (flooring the pedal causes the box to drop a gear or two down for power) and dont rev it much.... realistically though i think that amount is what it will be doing, might improve a little after a few kms pass under the wheels but im guessing you're looking at 8ish at best in city.... my neighbour bought one of the first 1.8 civic autos that came here, they've had it for just about two years now and the car is not driven hard at all, still the best they've managed is around 7 km/l in colombo (they did get 13 odd outstation though) civics arent really the most economical cars in that category, they are designed with different priorities i guess. the 06 civic is a really nice car, so i hope you enjoy it, and not worry too much about the fuel! Cheers S_N
-
not the ratios per se, just the simple fact that its an automatic gearbox..... unlike a manual where you pick your own ratios depending on the driving, the autobox will shift based on its shift programming, an automatic might shift several times in a situation where a driver with a manual gearbox would simply stay in one gear, such as in a traffic situation for example, which negatively affects consumption. in fact, we have a 2004 ES8 Civic automatic (1.5), and in colombo it does only about 7-8 Km/l...... so the somewhat heavier newer civic will probably consume much the same i suppose.
-
im assuming he means the same car, he probably bought it this year therefore assumes it is a 2007 model... well 10km/l from the 1.8 is quite suprising, is it mainly city driving? thing is, in colombo it is a whole different ball game when it comes to traffic, and i suppose then things like the weight, autobox and all combine to cause a bit of an issue with fuel.
-
nothing unusual in that at all... agents arent always all that realistic about the fuel consumption figures they give for cars...... 6.5 - 7 in city sounds about right mate... it's an automatic after all, once the engine gets run in you should see that creep up a little bit but i dont think 10 in the city is feasible...
-
true that, it really does depend on perspective, but i think what Gtam means is that certain cars have that "special something" that stands them head and shoulders above the rest, and really most japs simply dont possess that.... the italians on the other hand, do the soul part very well...... everything else they seem to have trouble with
-
There is one on the AL classifieds..... of course its hard to judge what sort of shape its in without seeing it, but it looks ok in the pictures...
-
yes i was talking about the stang actually, i heard the story as well but the papers were present and correct, any issue will likely crop up at transfer time i suppose.... but anyway that particular car is a 1979 and it doesnt even have a v8! so its a rather pointless exercise altogether..... on the other hand, just yesterday i came across something several miles more interesting, but THAT makes this alfa look like a very simple job!
