  1. ROFL I didn't actually try going there, but it would have been funny if people really did try this out...
  2. lol. I didn't go on either day
  3. ??? Is there a red one? Was this a single vehicle accident?
  4. If you feel like there's something wrong then go see a second western eye specialist. There are plenty in SL. Ayurveda may work for certain things, but I would never trust it for things like vision or hearing.
  5. They didn't let me park at the carpark and go to the bakery again last night, wtfffffff????
  6. Tire kadey and petrol kadey guys in SL don't know jack about correct tire pressure. Hence why 90% of the cars on the road seem to be severely under inflated. And if they LOOK under inflated then they are really really underinflated, cos even when it's at its ideal wait it looks a bit down. Please do a search on this thread, there's plenty of info on how to measure, when to measure, effect of the heat of the road on the reading, etc. It's only when there's a lot of high speed blowouts on the new expressway that people may finally realise.
  7. I tried that tonight, he said that they don't allow people to park and go to the bakery wtfffffff??
  8. So how was it?
  9. What happened to Imran the official starter?

    Express-Way Updates

Wonder what's going to happen to all the jokers who know nothing about tyre pressure (90% of the populace here by the looks of it) who constantly run on under inflated tyres, when their tyres heat up and blowout on the highway, sending them a-flyin? They should have a mandatory pressure test at the toll gates too.
  11. Have fun, and then someone please update the "Drags" photo section on the main page that displays a date in 2005!

    What Is This Gadget?

Since that Observer article on the Expressway says that they will start an electronic toll system soon, you may have some use for it once you get it converted to English.
  14. I'm thinking it's a beet barrel :jumping-smiley-013:

    Express-Way Updates

What most people in the UK who rail against speed cams don't realise is there is a reason why the cam was put in its original location in the first place - somebody once died there.

    Drag Racers Beware

Who are these morons on loud bikes that race around on Marine drive and surrounding areas on friday/saturday nights? Have nearly had accidents more than once due to their reckless overtaking of cars from every side. Once saw a crowd of them held up by a traffic cop at the Kollupitiya Junction but no doubt they got away judging by the noise I could later hear far away. Fricking idiots seem to have no thought for other people on the road. Yes offense, if any of you or your friends are involved.
  17. Didn't know there was a 4wd option. As far as I know, they come standard AWD
  18. Next time get her to crash into you. Then you can comfort her.
  19. Looks like the joint didn't even have a fire extinguisher and had to wait a while until someone brought one from down the road...what a professional bunch of "auto" shops we have. And who the hell started the burning corolla and drove it on to the road
  20. There's a place on Galle Road, owner is a regular on this forum. It will set you back about 15k for something you can probably do yourself for 1k.
  21. Yes we can, by saying that there is no point focussing on a "wattage" of an item, cos it doesn't really exist. Wattage is really just a thermal measure, a measure of how much heat that item is putting out. Think of keeping your hand on a 100 watt lightbulb...you will get my point. Look at it this way, when you see wall sockets, they are rated 5 amps, 13 amps, 15 amps etc. That is because they are designed to be used with a certain load current, nobody cares about how many watts you're drawing out of a plug point but how many amps your appliance is rated for (usually most appliances have an Amp rating as well). Your trip switches are not rated to break at a certain wattage but exceeding a certain current. In any case, the wattage of any item is almost never constant, because it depends on how much of a load is on that appliance. For example, your monitor will have a different "wattage" (read: thermal output) based on what sort of image is being displayed on the screen (yes, depending on the colours), your speakers a different amount based on what is being played through them, together with other factors like resistance in the device, in the cables, etc. etc. What you're seeing displayed there is actually just an average over certain test scenarios (this is less likely to fluctuate for current consumption). And then it doesn't end there, cos it also depends on the efficiency of the actual appliance (eg: a colour TV may consume more than a black and white, but if the design of todays LCD is much more efficient than the 30 year old B&W, chances are it actually consumes less than the old box)...not much worth worrying about cos the differences will have minimal effect on your actual light bill. Bottom line, don't waste time chasing some figure like wattage, because that's a bit like chasing after the unicorn. If you really really want to measure wattage through a device then you can get some expensive lab equipment (expect to spend upwards of 2 lakhs)...but for your intents there is absolutely no point. Anything that claims to be a watt meter off the shelf probably isn't very reliable at all. Rather, borrow a reliable multimeter (not cheap off the pavement stuff, most anything you will buy for less than 10k is not very accurate ) like a Fluke 80 (these are not cheap, but certain friends of yours may have one if they're into electronics repairs) and measure the current consumption by using the ammeter function...you already know the Voltage (roughly) which varies between 220 to as much as 240 in SL at 50Hz...you can use the formulas you learned from your O/L science class even to calculate rough power (wattage) Hope that is of some use. Suggest you do what Sifaan suggested, as I am not sure you want to be poking around with live current.
  22. I still for the life of me can't understand why there isn't a bigger protest against this. Some of us have been around a long enough time, but don't yet have 1000 posts as we're not active postwhores. I actually joined the old forum (not the old forum, the old OLD forum) about 2 weeks after autolanka was started. But still not good enough, apparently. I wish to place on record that I request all members with more than 1 years service get paid a nominal sum for each post (regardless of post count if over 100), with the pay-per-post increasing based on service period. Hope members including Sylvi will join me in making this request to all concerned at autolanka.
  23. I can vouch for the Kia sorento as a good vehicle. Was not a fan of Korean vehicles or even of SUVs before I had to get that, but I've changed my mind. Not only is it (diesel) fuel efficient even in city driving, it has also never let me down in a lot of hill country/tea estate driving (not off-roading of course, but definitely not good roads for sedans either). If you want a decently sized SUV that won't take up the whole road and is not a b**** to park, and can handle rough terrain on occasion, highly recommend it. Have no experience with the other vehicles you mentioned.
  24. Well, pardon my french but hope it doesn't end up like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_amZsf8A1Lo
