  1. Hi Friends, I need to fix a Digital Tachometer (RPM Meter) to my jeep (4dr5) and I checked on eBay. There are many and found this can be easily fitted to the dashboard ( Which I made with fiberglass for additional meters such as volt meter, vacuum ). The tachometer comes with a proximity sensor. Frankly I do not have an idea whether this is the most suitable tachometer i can use. So I need your expert advice on how I can do this. If I buy this, Will I have to fix the proximity sensor closer to the fan or somewhere around the alternator? Please advice and highly appreciate your reply to this post. Thanks.
  2. I got all my cushion works, canopy and carpets done from Horana cushion at Horana and their work is perfect. I saw older Benz car came to them and had done the interior and it was superb. I felt like to get in there and drive away. Anyway first you'd better visit the place and see. There may be other places but I am totally satisfied with their work which they try to keep the original classic look always. However it depends on your requirement. Hope this helps. Also please keep the thread updated with images of your excellent work. Thanks.
  3. Hi friends, Any of you have tried this type of Type R multifunction strobe for your vehicle (Not while running but may be for parking or so.) ? Ebay Do not know whether it is legal but for parking I have seen one land cruiser got those at Union Place.
  4. This is used for heat reduction and not for sound proofing. There are several types of these which used primarily for reducing the heat such as for ceiling, engine compartment (Mostly on older vehicles)...
  5. According to my knowledge, These mats used to soundproof movable generators (higher capacity ones) which used for powering up larger buildings. Anyway this is a good attempt but bit of a concern here is because, interior equipments such as seats, dash board...etc may have to be removed to do it correctly. Cost will be higher. Have you got any quotation for doing this from places you mentioned locally ? Have they done it before to any other vehicles? If possible find out more details please. I think these has to be done by an experienced professional because if one place is missed, its a waste of everything and there won't be any outcome at all. Thanks.
  6. Hi friends, Could anyone post a place where I can buy recon Sun Visor for Vitz 2008 model? Appreciate your replies and thanks a lot in advance.
  7. Assuming the meaning "top rubber beading" as the beeding which holds the windscreen; you may use a black silicone glue to keep it tight with the screen. However depending on the situation, you may have to see why it comes out like that. if normal you can use silicone glue but if not, you may have to find another solution.
  8. Hi friends, Kindly post if you have experience of getting down a walkie talkie set (2 radios without a repeater) from ebay or somewhere. May be a kids one that can communicate within a range of 100m - 1km or so. I do not have any idea whether we have to take special permission for that as it is kind of a kids toy such as these. I couldn't find a place here is Colombo that I can buy and may be if it is not causing any legal matters, thinking of ordering via ebay. Thanks a lot in advance.

  10. Friend, As vvti said you must fix your cooling problem first. It's the first priority. And then check the gasket. If you flush the radiator, be ready for the worst. A good radiator guy should be able to seal the leak but make sure that it functions as supposed to. Worst thing could be to replace the radiator. Search here in the forum about radiator and flushing where you will find a lot of information. If you use normal water then there's a higher possibility that the radiator is having corrosion. Hope that you will update the thread with what you have done so far . thanks.
  11. Of course. 100% agreed with you. The modification shown on the picture is not a good one and may be it can damage to the body (and passengers) more than expected whenever there is a hit. It has to be the chassis that the cage should be mounted to provide maximum safety.
  12. Yes. It's not mentioned anywhere on that page. Thanks tiv for the info.
  13. Hello there, Could anyone explain the legal aspects of having safety bars for a jeep (4DR5)? I understand that safety bars are applicable for off road situations but is it legal to drive with those in the city in case if needed (assuming that an off road tour is organized and need to drive the jeep to the location it starts) ? Also do we need to get special permission to have those fixed to the vehicle? Kindly expect replies with legal matters and related details please. Thanks so much in advance. 14. Thanks for informing. So, how does it effect to recondition Prius owners? Do they have to do it by themselves bringing the car to the dealer? Any idea please?
  15. Sorry about the incident and hope no one is injured. I was there 1 min behind you (Color lights). I personally don't recommend that much of a speed boost at any time possible.
  16. Thanks & worth it. If possible please share your experience on fiberglass works. We would really like to know. Anyway Thanks.
  17. civicferio, Although this thread is an older one, Kindly share how did you do it. Where did you buy the fiberglass materials ( Fiberglass clothe, Resin and hardener)? Because I also need to buy for a simple DIY project. Please share your experience. Thanks.
  18. Good answer. Thanks MrCat. Any place you suggest to buy it locally? Or else online other than ebay and diytrade? Did you get those from diytrade?
  19. Hi, What would you suggest for a reverse light kit as in "Flood" or "Spot"? I am comparing LED lights (around 18-27W types) & Anyone who has fixed those as reverse lights please post if they are flood or spot type ones. Thanks a lot in advance.
  20. yes it looks like so. And the canopy is already water proof but not water repellant. Therefore better trying this out. And I think for windshield also it won't work as supposed because of the wiper and stuff. Anyway lets try something different.
  21. There are some fabrics that I like to be water repellent as seen on such promotional videos like the Canopy of my jeep. Also want to try out on the windshield and other side glasses. As you said, before everything I am going to try this on a sample to see how it needs to spray and how it works after that. Another DIY project and hope it will turn out to be a good one.
  22. Yes. The brand "Nikwax" testing videos at youtube does not show any foggy/white layer after applying. But some claims that it does on some of those forums. Just ordered one "Nikwax Tx Direct Spray" from ebay and waiting to see how it goes. Thanks Watchman for the reply.
  23. Hi, Kindly post your comments if you have ever used a super hydrophobic spray such as Nikwax. Ex: http://www.kitwizard.com//nikwax-txdirect-spray-300ml-p-292.html They say that this kind of products can make the fabric to be water resistant and working as a water repellent with nano technology. However I could not find any of this item in Sri Lanka yet but if you know a place that can buy, please reply. Also if you have used it for your vehicle or any other, please share your experience. Thank you.
  24. Hello there, I hear nothing for this post. Some has PM me and thanks to all of them. Mr. Sylvi suggested me to have a pulley conversion to increase the rpm of the alternator and it went well and also conversion from star to delta of the stator winding. Also I could get it converted to IC Regulated alternator to get the max power out whenever the rpm is high. So the old classic cut off switch was removed. There is another thought of having a dual alternator system but I have no knowledge about it as how it effects to the engine and stuff. So need experts replies on that matter and I really appreciate it. Still the outcome is not at satisfactory level and as I started the thread, If anyone knows how to get some higher out put (Amps) at lower RPM, please kindly reply. Thanks again.
  25. Hi Experts, This is regarding an alternator enhancement. I have gone through many articles and posts such as http://www.google.com/patents/US5874822 to find out how an alternator can be modified to provide more power without going to replace the whole unit. (Keeping housing and brackets as original) The major part that most people replaced is the Stator. With a higher AMP stator for the existing alternator will increase the power that it produces. But I couldn't find any related article about Stator replacement efficiency comparison with RPM ratio. When it comes to diesel engines, the idle RPM is bit lower which could be 500-600. By supposing that we can increase it up to 1000 or 1100 by changing the pulley system, is it possible to have a higher amp stator for exising rotor? Kindly need advises from your practical experiences. Thanks.
