right... i see... so as long as your emissions aren't gonna bother the guys in green, i think you're sorted.
-
the closest you can get to this is if you remove all the bulbs and install white LED's. might need a resistor to make them brighter also. there's a place in panchikawatte or pettah that does this. any help on whereabouts, ppl?
-
as did i. funny, it had to pop in just when i started this thread. probably the dude can't sell it because its awd

ABS and aibags can be optional omissions... but all sixth generation civics (ek's) had EFI. be it vtec or non vtec, sohc or dohc. they were all efi. which means you have to have an o2 sensor. there are two sensors, bank 1 and bank 2. 1 is over the cat, and 2 is in the intake. the input from both these are necessary for the efi to function. if either one is broken or missing, it will work as a loop and give a preset default o2 intake/output reading. in short, you'll lose a lot in fuel efficiency. in the true sense of the word, as in it won't give more gas when you step on it, or put less gas when you amble along in traffic. but if they are missing/broken, your engine check light should be on. better get that checked at the agents and replaced. checking at agents with their machines will cost around 1,500. the sensors are around 5500 from panchikawatte. the agents will want 30,000 each to replace.

Need Advice - Hyundai Tiburon / Swift Sport Edition
Komisiripala replied to Dshan's topic in Ask for Advice
the tib is a decent piece of automobile. has a naturally aspirated 2.0 liter inline 4 from the 2001 sonata, mated to a four forward tiptronic box. haven't heard of any manual tibs in SL so far. packs a decent punch, but as with naturally aspirated cars of that displacement, the "punch" weans off as the revs pass 4-6k. would love to drive one with a turbocharger... that would be a sweet aftermarket upgrade. not a great handler, tho. tons of understeer, as expected from a front wheel drive car with the engine over the front axle. don't expect it to take corners like a wrx or wag its tail like an rx. straight line point and squirts can be fun. cut glass (frameless) doors are sexy, but check the rubber linings on the car you buy, cos water seepage from the glass gets into the dashboard, short-circuiting it. and rubber is a lot cheaper than hyundai meter clusters! definitely a good looker. and IMHO serves primarily as a bird-puller than a driver's car. the ladies love it. i've seen them literally go nuts over it. one chick even wrote "i love your hundy coup - 077xxxxxxx, <name>" on it at hikka fest last year. and no, i assure you my friend who owns it would have called her if she could spell it properly. i mean, how hard can it be? all the badges are intact!! spares are readily available in delkanda, and there are some specialist hyundai garages i can recommend who will do a professional job on whatever needs to be done. rear seats are decent, but lacks headroom. be careful when closing the bootlid... you might crush your rear passengers' head. its quite low. there's more space for a 6-footer in the back of an rx8. honestly. the seats, being racing buckets, are not the most comfortable. i've been in better ones, honestly. ergonomics are designed for 5-foot koreans!! i dunno if you're interested in fuel efficiency, since both of these are performance vehicles, so i'll leave that out for the moment. no idea about the swift sport, but personally, not a fan, cos i can't fit into one comfortably. oh yeah, a good tib will be around 1.7 - 1.9 mil. the one i speak of was valued at 1.75, but my pal shafted out 1.9 for it. -
Best Diesel Suv For Duty Free Vehicle Permit
Komisiripala replied to Venura1's topic in General Automotive
nah, i don't. the only korean car we have in the family is a hyundai sonata. and what a comfortable car that is! au contraire, we have a couple of JDM mitsu pajero's. 2001 GDI's. petrol. and those are brilliant in every possible way. comfy as ever, and perfect for the family outing, and holds its ground off road... independent rear suspension really does make a difference. -
all the same i'd like to have seen one. they're so damned rare... what i wanted to see specifically was the rear diff. maybe i should've said so. there's a conversion done on ek3's with a crv awd platform, but that diff is so large, it sits a few inches off the ground, like a massive haemorrhoid! might easily be taken out by a road hazard, such as those manholes on the new stretch on marine drive... was wondering if the stock diff was higher up that, to me, was why the picture mattered. every car is unique, jdnet, and the effort the owner puts into it make it so, whether you drive a honda, mitsu or scooby. i was hoping some proud ek5 owner would represent and share his pride ans joy with us...

Best Diesel Suv For Duty Free Vehicle Permit
Komisiripala replied to Venura1's topic in General Automotive
really, venura1?? i mean, really?? do they even let you drive one of those trucks at U*i*ed?? its not that different from a canter!! the ride will crush your spine, and the noise... good lord... kia is quite decent. as is the scooby forester. dunno how that works out for the permit tho. isn't that a 2.5l flat 6 petrol? never heard of a diesel scooby to start with -
isn't this an Si or SiR, JDnet? i think the ek5 was a 4 door...
-
i was wondering if any of you know whether there are any EK5's in sri lanka. haven't come across them so far. its a rare model, for JDM and canada. looks just like the EK3, but, dig this: has a 4wd drive train, similar to the one on the hrv. they're easily identifiable since they have a rear wiper, which other civics do not. and an "RTi dual pump 4wd" sticker on the back... post some pictures if any of you hondaboys/girls got one. its a gem!
-
i saw a banana yellow nano on the road somewhere in kaduwela. never really got used to the 3-nut wheels tho... reminds me too much of a tuk tuk. cute little thing, however... but IMO needs that other side mirror if it's gonna have a ghost of a chance in sl traffic

converted sti's are definitely not daily drivers, as someone mentioned. its a labor of love and it needs regular visits to the mech to keep things shipshape. if you're concerned abt safety, i suggest you keep the stock steering with the airbag, or get a momo sports one that has it. sadly most of these cars have a "sports" steering which adds about 20BHP (blood horsepower levels) to the car. do your research on wrx's thoroughly. read up online and seek advise where you can. owning one is not to be taken lightly. but when that turbo spools, and you;re plastered to the seat by a hurricane of power, its bliss at another level. all the best in your search. i saw daryn had advertised the rates recently. something like 10k for a 3 run setup. its a 4wd dyno, btw. i think moratuwa campus already has a 2wd one lol at gtr photo shoot reference! the security there told me that a lot of ppl came by for photo ops with the car!! saw a type-r fd3 civic there recently. 18" gunmetal alloys... swee-eet!

there's a couple of good mechs in the mt.lavinia area. one guy in particular is Shafique. you'll find his garage in a little road close to the Bakery junction at the attidiya end of templers' road. don't be intimidated by the awesome cars that tun up there. shafique knows his stuff even with older machines and in general won't rip you off. he might put your motoring knowledge to the test tho

hats off to randhiv for mentioning the original gone in 60. that was epic. starred a detomaso pantera. what a lovely car, that. they don't make then like those any more. also, initial D is really the shi'ite. makes the fast and furious look like sesame street in comparison. those drifts were unbeleivable. correct me if i'm wrong, but i think they used a trueno with a 1.5 liter twin turbo wenkel rotary to get enough rpm to keep drifting those mountain roads endlessly. read that somewhere...

wow, i guess i really am the guinea pig here! alright boys, (and girls if there are any) i'll keep you posted on whether our honda keeps purring like a kitten, or whether the batteries melt outta its a$$! honestly, we bought this car because we thought it was the next step forward in motoring. for the simple pleasure of owning something different, on the (or close to) the cutting edge of automotive tech, as available in SL. it had nothing to do with the cheap price tag, as someone mentioned. i too remember similar arguments arising when EFI was introduced, CVT's became commonplace etc etc. and i have faith in the ingenious baases around to come up with some ju-ju magic for hybrid technology as well. Lankaave porawal ne... thawa tika kaalekin hybrid tuk-tuks duwai... the honda warranty is based on no. of years, or at least that's what our documents say. i know that's against the rule here, and i find it odd too. of course it means nothing in SL as the agents don't bring this model down yet, but i refer to it only as a yardstick for the batteries expected lifespan. the electric torque curve take a little getting used to and is just brilliant, frankly! boot space is quite restricted because of the power pack tho.
-
when it's running on the electric assist, it has more torque than the conventional gasoline counterpart. more so than most of the vehicles in its class. but if u run out of electric squirt, then you're really stuck with a heavy car that has a 1.3liter motor. not pleasant. the electrics work much the same way the prius does. as for maintenance, the agents are equipped to handle it, and are gearing up for the hybrid influx. this car in japan comes with a 8-10 year warranty on the battery, which leads me to assume that it's good to last that long at least. at the mo, it costs 500k to replace the battery pack once its cycle finishes. don't know what that will be in 6-7 years time. i doubt the prices might come down to 2.2, but you never know tho... and my brother sends his thanks for those kind words on his balls.

its just the way you drive it. it doesn't do 15 in the city. 10-12 tops. my bad. this is a non-vtec issue here, so i'm not sure what the "econ" mode on the vtec models do. for someone who did a lot of long distance driving, i was honestly shocked myself at those figures. it also boils down to how you drive it i suppose. sticking to a cool 80kmph on a soaking wet day on empty roads for 400km gave me 23kmpl. trying to brake the land speed record on the same track on a bright sunny day left me with around 12-14kmpl.
-
@prasa: my brother has a honda FD3 hybrid. fantastic machine. got it recon 20,000 clicks (j1 certified) for 4.75 million pre-budget. has a 1.3 liter i-VTEC motor which generates 90bhp and two electric motors which generate 20 each. has oodles more torgue than its gas-guzzling counterpart. brakes, being dynamos, are rock solid, and don't fade when wet! and the most important question: it does around 15kmpl city, and close to 18kmpl highway. those are our calculations. not the book's. compared to the stock FD3 that's super. oddly, my ek3 multimatic on econo mode gets the same mileage! its got all the bells and whistles you can think of. agents dont' import it. so you have to get recon. i think its the dog's bollocks. really. @clark's son: they don't explain why they stopped importing it previously, because, at 7 million quid a pop, THEY DIDN'T RECEIVE ONE SINGLE ORDER!! and that's the god-honest truth. all prius' here are brought down recon. agents did not sell even one. there's a finance company on facebook at the mo offering prius' 09 model at 3.5 mil, which is quite decent. @admin: i've tried my best to make this not sound like an ad, but do edit if you see fit. my apologies.

great post, jdnet. frankly i don't see what corolla 121 is on about. thanks for posting this. he didn't. you did. its easy to sit there and hate once someone stood up to represent. this is a very helpful post, specially (like me) if you've got one light that's faded, and one in pristine condition. most restoration places get their knickers in a twist when i ask them to clean only one. (naa sir, dekatama 3,000, habai ekak 1,500 walata baa) lol any other tips on restoration of dashboards/leather etc will be appreciated.

CVT's are prone to give problems only if not cared for. as mentioned earlier, go for one only if you have a good knowledge of the past service history. agents recommend oil change every 17,000 clicks. an engineer told me that it "jumps" in reverse because the box hasn't haeted up the oils to running temperatures, and this leads to the fidgety behavior. there may be some truth in this because mine only jumps when the engine/box is cold, and is smooth in reverse or forward from a standing start when at optimum temperature. mine has clocked 155,000km without any issues. that being said a multimatic in sport mode is a sublime experience. a manual would have to be fed some forced air to surpass that "aathal" i've had one for a year now and wouldn't give it up for the world...

if i remember right the 99 city has rear discs. anyhow, as with the civic it should have rear multi link suspension, and those have fully adjustable cambers, just like the front. you need to take it to someone who knows how to deal with a city/civic. the agents are a good bet, but apart from that, i know of this place in Panadura old road, near the Walana road turnoff, where they know their shi'ite. they use age old tools, brit-made camber adjustment instruments, but they iced mine spot on, after i did a rear disc conversion which left me with a 2 degree negative camber, and was told by many reputed places in colombo that nothing could be done so sorry.com hope this helps
-
i think your best bet is to wait for zackie. he should sort you out. tech motors in panshikawatte also deals with honda parts. a spoon ECU would be the dog's bollocks too! if you can get your hands on one

vvti, clearly, this seems to be at whole other level for you. i like how you sugar coat my alleged naivette and ignorance with words and phrases like "machang" and "no offence" when in truth we both no that that post was neither. let me spell this out in the clearest possible way, again: i NEVER said i was an expert. why does everyone seem to have to pass a nissan screening test just to comment here? no one was born driving a P11 out of their mom's womb... we all have had to go through the experience of learning about car the car we seek and then making a decision based on that. and i never did ask this dude to buy a honda either. pls note. that decision is up to him. and i guess i'm guilty of only researching on the car as i wasn't born with one, and not try to inculcate the attitude needed to own/be a self-styled expert on one. i'm just an average guy who had a look at a car i liked, and then told another (i assume) average guy what my idea on it was. but somehow this seems to be very wrong. i thought autolanka was here to help out the regular motorist/petrolhead. instead i see now its just a mosh-pit for people who make a very VERY loud statement with their wheels and egos. i love my car. i do. but i don't let it turn me into an arrogant, rude, sarcastic, self-inflated egoist. so i'm gonna bow out of this thread now. this is just silly...

depends on a lot of things. a nomral LEV will be around 1.5-1.6mil. a ViRS will be around 1.8 to 2.0 but i have to agree with one of the moderators here. check the adds. i mought mine form the autolanka page. thy have all the info you need there.
