  1. Will keep it in mind, and yup, I know you Facebook-wise at least Right now gotta get project E30 and E34 rolling... Anyway, back to the TR, will we be seeing her at any hill climbs next year?
  2. Can't believe I missed out on this thread for so long, so just went through it from page 1. Amazing work MD, Can't wait to see its completion. Its hard not to be motivated to go out and buy a classic when you see things like this, but alas, these things require financing, not to mention a hell of a lot of commitment. I guess its better to do a job properly than not at all. Perhaps some day though
  3. Hey guys, I don't take any credit for this list whatsoever, just noticed it on FB and wanted to share. It certainly looks interesting though... Hambantota, Kilinochi and Vauniya seem like new events, and its also nice to see more than one circuit meet for Katu too. No idea what happened to the Kandy street race though...
  4. Its gonna be close, and we may be just one alternator failure away from seeing Alonso clinch the title. I'm sure the Renault engineers will be quite worried now, but seems to hurt poor old Mark the most. I was quite worried that the USGP was gonna be a snooze fest like Valencia, but it was probably one of the best races we've seen so far! The US fans seemed to love it too, with packed stadiums despite the NASCAR decider being held today too. Looks like F1 is gonna have a long and prosperous return to the US.... P.S, Those Pirelli Stetsons were brilliant
  5. Great to see this on track again, and thanks to the organizers who despite the criticism and trials faced, preserved to fit this in before the end of the year. Can't wait!

For all the right reasons I hope.
  7. At the risk of going off topic, but along the lines of what MD said, here's somthing that caught my attention. http://paultan.org/2007/05/21/bmw-m6-skinned-to-look-like-volga-gaz-21/ Again, completely different from the original car, but IMO quite stunning and tasteful. The quality of the work looks amazing too. Here are some in progress pics: http://englishrussia.com/2012/11/13/bmw-into-gaz/

I honestly dunno how Komi gets away with them JDM spec items Yellow it shall stay. Picked up a few more little bits today, and discovered something a bit alarming... Will update when I get some pics...
  9. I'm not defending his taste, or what he's done to the car at all, in fact, its quite disturbing on so many levels. But what I and the others feel is that he did LOVE his car, and made something that was in his mind a thing of beauty. The chances are if he had the right exposure (as what ripper said) he would have created something a lot more tasteful. Yes it is the definition of rice, but the story alone tells us that he did this because he had a passion for his car. The same cannot be said for all the other cars that - as soon as landing in the country - are carted off for "improvements" with massive body kits, silencers and more holes than a colander. We're not saying that the styling is any better, its the roots that set this monstrosity apart.

Wanted a cleaner look, and the badge wasn't on straight in the first place (especially the i). Not noticeable from a distance, but something I sorta picked up on.

So a small update. Until I can get a hold of those smoked rears (a set just went for almost $400 on ebay ) I decided to update the rear end with the M5 style filler plate. Ok, I'm probably gonna look daft for banging on about what is essentially just a piece of plastic, but bear with me. The original M5 (and only the M5) had a filler panel in between the tail lights to make the rear look a bit more fleshed out, and is actually a peice that's often overlooked by many. Again, it wasn't cheap, and came from Germany (Mine's a bit special, but more on that later) but I must say I'm pretty pleased with the result. Anyway, enough of me talking: Time for some pics! 18 years of dirt hidden beneath the No. Plate holder: Nice and clean: And the finished result (after my friend and I spent ages trying to align it properly): As I said, I'm pretty pleased with the result, but now wondering whether to change the number plate colour.... Opinions?
  13. Hmmm, From the Japanese side how about the Honda Prelude? The first gen had quite a few innovations, including 4 wheel steering and of course, and (perhaps not so innovative) those pop-up head lamps. The second generation was also quite nice, but after that Honda sorta lost the plot (as with most things they produce now). There's also a tasty (if a bit over-stickered) Datsun UTE up for grabs, which is supposedly one of only 2 left... European wise, I must agree that the E30 and E34 don't quite cut classic status yet, however what about the E12 (5 series) and E21 (3 series)? Last mainstream cars to feature the shark-nose, and not too many of them around, but have seen a few. There's even a BMW 2002 somewhere too.

Wheels will probably stay the same for some time me thinks. They've recently grown on me again, but definitely will look at upgrading to 17s at some point. On the subject of the tail lamps, Let me put out a feeler: Above is a set of original Hella Smoked Tail lamps with the number plate filler. These are very very rare, and quite hard to get a hold of too (in any condition), but for some reason I've always loved it. The Number plate filler alone just fills out the rear end imo, and makes a very nice contrast. Thoughts and opinions? Another pic: Yes it is I! And @komisiripala, indeed I've been hearing a lot about your project from a mutual friend, (who just happened to be driving her at 2ish )

Ah yes, of course. Decked out in AutoLanka Livery too. 670kms in 3 days over some truely awesome roads, and some not so great ones too Really needed the power to keep up at times, but some of the roads were a bit cringe worthy. A trip to the agents for a check-up since has revealed I need a few new bushes and other suspension components, nothing too serious for now though. Since you asked, here we are at Foxhill

Thanks A few plans yeah, but I'd rather keep them quiet for now, as its easy to talk about things and then fail to deliver. Lets see what happens

Yup, the throwing stars (1st pictured) are one of my personal favorites, and are perfect for Sri Lankan roads as they're built with so much strength. Another cool feature of those is the fact that the cover's are designed to funnel air to cool the brakes. Definitely a win there. But again, as you said, E34 M5 prices are rising, and so too are the cost of wheels such as that. Plus, although period correct - I'm inclined to think that although being 17s they still look smaller. The 2nd pic is of some M-Parallels, which are just beautiful, and already on the one E34 M5 we have here. But these only ever came in 18's, and on our roads I'm not quite ready to take that risk. Here's a pic of some style 32s I'm quite fond of, and can be found in staggered form:

True about the wheels, that was my opinion too,so lining up the options now so to speak The second pic was on the yet to be completed Colombo-Katunayake Expressway
  22. Yup, its confirmed. Vettel has been excluded from qualifying and will start in 24th position. Tomorrows race suddenly got a lot more interesting!

Ok, so somewhat inspired by Jaliya48's post on his corolla, I thought of creating a thread on my BMW 520i (E34). I have quite a few plans for her, but I'll keep it simple for now, proceeding slowly (as and when the funds become available, hehe) and let the car do the talking My 3rd BMW, the car is a '94 520iA, with the vanos equipped M50TU engine. A few things make this car stand out; namely it is (currently) the only E34 in Sri Lanka with a LSD fitted, and also has the rare option of Servo-tronic power-steering (Marketing speak for "faster you go, heavier the steering gets). It was also fitted with self-leveling suspension when it left the factory, but alas, that's been removed by a previous owner due to its complexity and cost to maintain. Other than that its loaded with all the electric goodies one may need from a car approaching two decades in age. After I first bought her a few months ago: First thing on the to-do list was a body-kit (I had already purchased the M-Tech kit for my previous car) Due to time constraints (and my need for transport) it was put on in stages. Below is with only the front bumper: (Photoshopped the number-plate mount off) Then the rest came... Next up was the installation of some new Head Lights. Again they were originally intended for my previous car, but were too hard to get a hold of to let them go. They're genuine Hella Smoked units, quite hard to come by unless you live in Germany: As you can see the previous owner had the CCFL halos fitted. I opted to replace them with more powerful LED units (which work excellently as DRLs, as they're bright enough to be seen during the day). Modeled by my old 518 below: And finally, how she is today: The previous owner had changed the rims to the ones you see now - 16's off a E39 - and fitted L.E.D rear lights. Whether both these items stay or go is up for debate... Also as you may notice from the above picture I need the tow-hook covers for the M-Tech bumper, a pain to find :/ I'll try and keep the thread update with progress, and get a few more shots, including the interior too, but for now, I hope you appreciate my ride.
