there's only 2 AFAIK, the red one and bronze/gold car, both 1.8T engined. red car is a '98 model Jap import, the Bronze car is a '97, imported by Car Mart for their MD, back when they held the Audi franchise. Was barely run until it was sold in 2003 or so. I believe the car has changed hands twice since then. [#####]

DAMN! that red 131 Abarth looks amazing. wonder if there are any 2 door 131's in SL ?? GTAm , if you decide to back the 131 way, you should aim for an Abarth clone. Shouldn't be that much of a stretch since you say majority of the panels had to be fabricated...

Those are actually fake; primarily for decoration. The actual exhaust comes out in the FRONT! This is UNIQUE to the VW. As we all know, the exhaust gases have to travel a specified minimum distance away from the engine. As the VW Beetle is rear engined, naturally the exhausts have to come out in the front. Check it out when you get a chance, You will find the Exhaust tip right below the radiator.

I own the Red (formerly white) 1989 model 944 S2. The car is currently undergoing restoration. The mechanical issues with the car were direct result of local improvisation. Nothing that was too difficult to rectify once proper replacement parts were sourced. The shoddy LHD to RHD conversion is what prompted a total resto. Once again due to local improv and dubious workmanship. That too has been corrected with original RHD spec parts. As for the allegations of heavy corrosion, there was hardly any. That's thanks to Porsche hot-dip galvanizing bodies even way back then. Came across a bit in the areas that were exposed by the earlier RHD conversion. Hopefully car will be back on the road early March. AFAIK this is the only 944 in SL. Here's a rough count of Porsche in SL, that i know of. If anyone has additional info please do share. '54 pre-A 356 - Silver (Musty Weerasinghe) '69 911S - Black (Upali D) '70s 924 - Gold/orange (Kamal group - Kelaniya) '79 924 - Red (Dr. Mendis, 944 body kit, recent import, unreg) '82? 928S - Light Blue metallic (LHD, import from kuwait) '89 944 S2 - Red ( mine, RHD convert, French import) '89 928 S4 - Blue (RHD convert, Upali D) '92? 911 (964) - RED, (LHD was raced by Dilantha M) '93 928 GTS auto - Metallic Lilac (Tony, 5.4 V8, 330 bhp) and since establishment of local dealer in '96: (986) Boxster - 6 or 7? (986) Boxster S - Black 911 (993) Cabrio - Red 911 (993) Targa - Yellow (Arthur S) 911 (996) Cabrio - Champagne (Dinal P) 911 (996) Cabrio - metallic Red/burgandy (Gemballa tuned, Upali D) (987) Boxster S - Silver (kalutota?) Cayenne - 5 or 6 ? Cayman S - Red re. Red 993 Cabrio, I believe it was last on sale at 10.5 or 11 mil. re. Burg/Maroon 986 Boxter at 4 mil, that low price is an anomaly due to the car having being crashed twice. re. 924 for sale, For those interested in picking up a 924, I would say go for it if the price is bearable. Parts are not going to be a problem for anyone familiar with eBay. There's plenty of technical help online. If the stock Audi sourced 2.0 N/A is not going to cut it, its fairly straightforward to drop a 2.5liter Turbo engine and drivetrain from the 944Turbo: stock 250bhp, easily tuneable to over 300 bhp...
