  1. The main difference between the axio and the domestic corrolla is the gear box. Axio - CVT box , better fuel efficiency, smooth driving but bit expensive to maintain (CVT oil change cost about 15k in toyota lanka) 141 - 4spd auto - ancient not very efficient and cheap to maintain Axio - 1.5 (1NZ-FE) - 110 PS (81 kW)@6000 rpm, 140 N·m (100 lb·ft)@4400 rpm 141 - 1.6 (3ZZ-FE) - 109 hp (81 kW) @ 6000 rpm. is 110 lb·ft (150 Nm) @ 3800 rpm Sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_ZZ_engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Corolla_%28E140%29
  2. Of course you can find the outlier in any case, given this is a reps' car should be that it is not serviced regularly, My statement regarding Toyota's Bulletproof reliability is not an opinion its a fact. take a look at reliability tests done by JD Power and other independent people. Obviously they are not the most entertaining to drive. (something like the ae-86 would be the exception)

  4. This thread is irrelevant due to 2 reasons world is gonna end in December 2012,, so dont give a rats a** bout whts gonna happen in 2013 bullshit
  5. I drive a 2008 Corolla Axio. Pros: Comfortable soft ride on any Sri Lankan road (handles pot holes/bumps/impacts very well) Reasonable ground clearance Easiest to drive (can drive for hours without feeling tired) bullet proof Toyota reliability Cheap to run (14" tyres, 12-13kmpl city, 14-16kmpl outstation, runs on 90 octane, low service cost, low sophistication) Can be a bit brisky if you get used to the CVT box After all you can sell it at a higher price than you bought it Cons: Low space in the back engine squeaks in high revs When i want to drive like an idiot I go to speedrome !

  8. Yes I guess. But wt about the inconvenience ? In the US Toyota recommended Sicon Xb service intervals are 5000 miles or 6 months. The Sicon Xb has the 1.5l 1nz-fe engine which is arguably the most common Toyota engine in SL after 2001 and so. But they recommend shorter periods if you are driving on heavy traffic or dusty conditions, which I think applies to most Sri Lankans.
  9. Most new car engines come with some sort of vvti. Even Agents from euro cars also recommend changing oil at longer periods. Most people change oil frequently due to the fact that service stations tell them so. But which service station owner wouldn't tell you to service more?? Btw, Az do you have a diesel car??
  10. Try going for synthetic oil with a denso oil filter, Dont have to change oil for a long time.. I personally think that the performance in our axio dropped after we switched to rock oil.
  11. totally !!! wrong side for the engine to be in!!! tata nano drivers should be careful of the potential "oversteer" btw Is the nano air cooled like the VW beetle ?
  12. You know what else caught fire,, It's the Ferrari 458 Italia. There has been 3 isolated incidents out of about 500 cars made priced at US$ 220,000.00 In the case of Tata Nano there has been about 2 incidents with about 6000 cars sold priced US$ 2,500.00 Note- Statistics may be a little off
  13. Hyundai R series diesel engines are supposed to be very good. The 2.2l CRDI engine on the Hyundai Santa Fe is supposed produce 190 odd bhp and more than 400Nm of Torque. (Manufacturer Claims) Thats pretty good comparing the BMW 2.0l engine in 320d is producing somewhere around 175 bhp.
  14. I gt a pair of Yokohama tires relatively cheap. but doesn't come from japan anymore..
  15. 121'a are rock solid cars,, mechanically. The city is not sharing the same level of build as a civic and is known to give trouble after a 4-5 years. (for old models)
  16. I actually spoke with TL,, They are planning 2 bring them down by Nov. this year, Think about, it with the tax breaks TL would be mad nt 2 exploit this advantage. The Prius is nt 4 everyone, bt it's gonna b ideal 4 city driving for most... Bt 4 me I like a manual car with a conventional petrol engine
  17. Hay,, no need to worry about the battery pack in most countries toyota gives a warranty of 10 years to the battery and electric motor/generator. My question is that if it will be suited to Sri Lanka,, eg:- Suspension and water resistance of the battery
  18. The CVT gearbox with an vvti engine for a considerably lite car can give you these figures,,, I heard the new honda fit does about 18kmpl outstation,,, But u hav to keep the gearbox in top condition. Change oil every 15-20k becomes a pain cause only the agents can do it If you are getting unreasonably low mileage check the gearbox
  19. I've a Axio x grade,, does bout 12-13 kmpl in traffic and more than 16 kmpl in open roads ..... Thrs no difference between x and g grade cause it's the same engine and the same transmission.
  20. Guys would u think the JDM 141 Axio would have a better chance in an accident like this??
