both 121 and axio 1.5l versions have same NZ FE1 engine so power is same but in the auto versions the 121 has 4 speed auto and the axio has a CVT tranny. so axio should do better mileage and bit better performance but very small difference. but because of more weight the performance is same. interior quality wise. axio would be better i guess. but both have same features and stuff so thats also marginal.. fuel economy both are same for average driver and between 9-14kmpl i would suggest a 121 bcz u will be getting almost everything as axio except for the new shell... and this is not comparing with the export 121 LX or XLi. only JDM models bcz export models are bit heavier but more performance tuned with lower FE and most have no airbags but have 4 wheel disks which JDM versions doesnt have.

used to use one. it was my cousins. it was a very used car..and he was afraid of running it past 60000km because we saw in lot of places the RENESIS wears out a lot and has to be replaced near 100000km so he sold it. thats scary O.o or maybe a RX-7 because that has a bigger passenger capacity..

exactly.. a person who buys a prius is usually a person who was going to buy a car like that. whats the difference between a prius and an allion?? barely nothing except allion looks a bit better but has lesser performance and options.. no one in their right mind would buy a prius if their budget was more than 6 million. so what about marutis?? those buying marutis are the worst. they can buy a used japanese car for less and it does better and looks better in every way... what about them? Ultimate f@gs?

dude. i never said you get a kick out of driving a prius and im not a hybrid lover far from it... so are you telling that driving an allion or camry or something is going to fulfill your manly needs?? (comparing to similar price cars bought by average drivers) .....i am going to buy a RX-8 next year after February (please tell me you dont think that too is not manly ). going to keep prius also coz its not a bad car.

nice reply . so are you saying you dont care at all bout any of these? i dont know bout the futuristic stuff. maybe they apply to cali... i do care bout saving up.. not ashamed of that... and i dont think prius looks futuristic at all. i know merc users who have bigger problems like parts unavailable and stuff and cant even use the vehicles.. i dont have any of those problems ne. and thats stupid saying you have to worry bout brakes wearing when stopping.... the way i brake is how i like. i dont need to go and slam on the brake right behind the vehicle in front... if theirs no one behind me i coast to a stop.. it doesnt kill anyone and neither does it make me go from A to B faster and also reduces the time i have to wait while stopped... well and can you explain what you mean by enjoying the ride.. if i want to enjoy a ride ill drive a stick shift. and having fun with these suicide people on the road in the suburbs is not such a good idea i guess..

well. im not cheap on the brakes if you can see. i just said that they last longer than in my earlier car... and for your information if i might say i am not a cheap a$$ i dont even have seat covers, steering wheel covers or any form of such things in my car and i am not a bit stingy to spend on the car. ive already spent several 100k on fixing the AV system and putting other mods and i dont keep my car at home and go in the bus like some people do to save fuel. if i can save fuel while doing my normal activities why do i need to be ashamed of that, anyone would prefer that. no one drives in a way so as to get lowest FE right? i drive the prius the way ive driven before i bought it and actually more aggressively too as the prius has more power THAN THE corolla (not a BMW) and am not saying the prius is the best car in the world.. far from it.. well hope it explains my point. and hope i havent made a further fool of myself..... thanks for the insight on my point btw.. i value that you know..

heyy. im not saying im going to run them when they are worn out. i change the wheel positions every 2 weeks and check brake pads and rotors and all the mechanical parts. im not that stupid as yourll say. i just meant to say that they last longer than in the 121. in the 121 i had to run without the wear indicator because the brakes started squealing in the middle of the uva province and so the mechanic there removed it so that i could get back to colombo, right next day i replaced them. hmmm. i guess i made a fool of myself

haha. very good point but still i think spending over 30k for tire is bit too much. its my fault i got them. but i dont regret one bit thats the part of the car i love the most, the 17" alloys never would have bought the prius otherwise. and these make FE lower too and the ride also bit uncomfortable than a regular prius. so not that stingy and thanks for the others for the suggestions. ill be sure to check them soon. i thought maxxis was a low quality tire.. should do some research but i am thinking of going for either Michelin or bridgestone even if i have to spend more because those are sure and give a good ride. ive not been getting good comfort from dunlop so far. and does anyone have a suggestion for air pressure for the 215/45/R17 tires? because their low profile i usually use high pressure to reduce damage to the rims. i have 32 front a 30 rear. is this good or bad?

Hi, in my car ive got 215/45/R17 91W bridgestone turanze tires now. i am looking for replacements and all replacements are like over 25000 rupees O.o in the earlier car it was 10000 per tire for japanese bridgestones.... anyone have any suggestions for good replacements at reasonable price. i am not looking for low quality chinese tires. nor do i think i require racing grade tires

well, i usually do the service every 10000km and thats double of what i run in the 121. book says to do every 8000 but even at 10000, the oil is just a dull brown. in the 121 after 5500 itll be black. ..and the oil filter is also not clogged. so i guess sometimes we can stick out of the rules in sri lanka we usually run a vehicle as much as we can without causing damaging, like i dont think anyone checks the drive train, suspension, joints , etc every 16000km like in the book

i had both F/R disks on 121 and the prius uses same pads as 121, allion, etc.. front was 14000 and rear was 10000 last time i checked., front usually lasted 30000km max with the wear indicator removed and run usually bout 28000km. so for 90000 km thats 3 pairs at 24000 each bout 72000 total for 90000km and still after 40000km the front brake pads on the prius looks like new and looks like itll last bout 150000 and rear is like brand new. so even if does only 90000 thats a saving of 48000 rupees per 90000 km. i usually brake using regen mostly and use friction brakes at last if not enough to stop without hitting the guy in front. also stops bikes trying to go between hope it explains the calculation

well, that shows some of the savings. the spark plugs have to be replaced every 192000km and the coolant after 120 months (10 years O.o) and the transaxle oil after every 96000km. in the 121 i had to replace all these frequently, the ATF oil changes and spark plug changes alone will save alot and the brake pads also will save more than 90000 rupees per 100000km compared to a 121. so any repairs to hybrid system hoping to offset by these. i save bout 315000 on fuel per year and in 5 years thatll be bout 1.5 million. so any repairs i guess its covered.

Hi, well i started this thread to help out as much as i can and finally a question . the main difference is the newer technology available on the newer generations. the first gen is actually obsolete now but the second gen power train is still used on the newer smaller prii such as the aqua. (prius C) so its not quite oudated yet. the benefit you get from the third gen technology is mainly on the highways and that too at high speeds so its not such a big benefit in sri lankan roads. i went for the 3rd gen because of personal preference because the second gen was totally ugly for me. i only went for the 3rd gen with the 17"alloys because it didnt look so bad as the others. but that is pure personal preference. if your looking for a A - B riide. then either with low miles is a good option. the second gen is cheaper obviously and the mileage is almost same for both in sri lankan roads with average driving. if you are agressive the 3rd is better, calm slow driver the second gen might be better. i can explain the technical differences but that is only if you want. btw. the 2nd has a lower ride height but now since most roads are carpetted it not such a big issue because you will only graze on high bumps which you will obviously take slowly so will not do damage. hope it helps. any more question just ask.

and another thing. you dont need to go to the agents for every damn thing like a service. they just charge soo much for such a simple job. the service is no different to any other car, i do the service for lyk 13000rs and since its every 10000km its cheaper than the 121. when i accidently depleted the 12V battery toyota lanka asked for 60000 to bring a replacement. and it only needs to be replaced with a fully sealed gel battery which i got for 6000rs from a battery dealer

and to any prius users.. never use the ECO button unless you have a very heavy foot because for one thing it feels like accelerating with 20 people in the car and the fuel economy benefit is reduced in SL conditions. its good for open roads when you want to coast. but in normal roads thats an easy way to get rear ended or get shouted at.

and another thing is. by this continuous evolution of technology the fun is being taken out of driving. when auto first came they were easier to drive but the performance was reduced and not as efficient as a manual. but now they are so developed that there is no clear advantage of having a manual. when CVT came they are even more efficient and gives better response for normal cars. but they even take out the slight jerk you feel in a auto. i still feel the thrill when a manual is being high revved and the jerk when shifting, it makes you feel you are driving something powerful. i used to love occasionally revving the engine in neutral. in the 121 i could put in park and do that, but in the prius i can only make the engine come on by flooring the accelerator in park. for the average driver to get from A to B the newer cars are ideal. but for someone with a passion for vehicles they just take the fun out of driving. btw thats why i never use the cruise control. this has the radar cruise control and the LKA and in the highway it will drive itself and keep on the lane and keep away from the front car without any input from me. but seriously.... thats definitely not driving... And to all those prius (and other) drivers out there.... its much more important to go in a manner which does not aggravate other drivers while trying to save a few cents on petrol because if one of those aggravated drivers decides to pay back by being aggressive. you might possibly end up with a much more costly repair bill. because ive done this to motor cyclists and three wheelers who annoy me. and since its a car a big vehicle isnt going to give much concern either. when i drove my L200 cars used to move out of the way because a cab is harder and not easily damaged and repairs are cheap. but now in the car its a much more difficult world its a common thing that when you can continuously see the FE you get you automatically try to increase it. because in the 121 i never knew how the FE was till i fill the tank so i wasnt trying to get the best FE because i didnt know whether what is was doing was giving goo mileage so i drove as i liked. but if you try to save cents by going too slowly in traffic then if one of those drivers gets in front of you and starts braking like crazy. all that economy will be drown the drain... hope it helps make even a tiny difference

my one true love... to find a nice supra in any condition. that plus a hybrid. not bad for boring driving in traffic, the prius. why not save a few bucks while idling in traffic. and for outstation and fun the supra

yeah. its not a cheap price tag. if i was on a tight budget i would go for a used 121. now thats a car i would recommend. when i sold my previous one it had 140,000km on it. i bought it at about 35000km and that was one durable car.. didnt have a single breakdown except battery dying after leaving for few weeks and once the fan belt broke. i bought it for 2 million and sold it Before the tax hike for 2.3 million. because it was an export model and not JDM the FE was not quite as good but it did 13 in colombo and 15 outstation. and the ride quality of a JDM 121 is comfy too. much better than buying a flimsy indian car.

ohhh dear another argument and i helped start it ... well ive got to agree with the haters.. hybrids definetly arent the future. EV is the future. i would gladly sell the prius and go for something like a Chevy Volt which looks much better, better performance and more cost saving in use. but thing is for now its too expensive and the Li ion battery is damn expensive to replace. the plugin version of the prius too is a bit too expensive. yeah. definetly but ive used the impreza for a while and the rear space was very limited. in this the rear space is better than usual japanese and i thought of getting a 407 but the parts would cost more than a hybrid if i messed them up like the multi link suspension.

haha. yep i guess it looks that way first time i started talking bout these stuff. usually car talk for me and my friends involve only high end exotics and modified racers. lol. i must be getting old normally we dont talk bout these stuff too. everyone likes the exotics so no arguments there hmmm. though im wondering.at first one of the reasons why i bought this was because of the options at the low price the added fuel economy was a side benefit. if the taxes were the same for hybrids i doubt i would even look at them. then prius would be somewhere around 15 million. O.o i bought for Y2900000 auction.(4720000 rs at current rate without taxes) so with 200% tax itll be about 14.1 million.... would rather buy a BMW or three 121s when i bought it i got it for 5.2 million so the saving was like paying up for any problems.
