On a Totally different note : I own a defender 110 built in 1986. Good Old 2.5 N/A . Max Speed is 120. But 100 is comfortable speed. I ran E01 Twice and i found that the bottom / medium end power of the engine has really improved. I constantly ran at 100. I also ran E01 in my 1.6 Kia. I once did 140-160 not constantly but here and there. I felt a performance increase in that too. So i guess running maximum out put of a vehicale for 5-10 min or constantly 60 min would make difference in performance. Any one felt this ?

and i fishtailed 4 times at 50 on wet weather with T/C off ( Luckily T/C kicked in and saved me ) . fuc***** charlie. what a scary feeling.

Damn i hate rear wheel drives. either that jag did not have traction control or T/C or it was too late when T/C kicked in.

i see a bit of fundamental flaw. it seems it collects a bit of water on heavy downpours, rather than draining it.

Try a early morning drive. you will love it more.

I did the E01 this weekend as well from Colombo to Matara and back. Return trip it was heavily raining around 6.30 pm when i entered. Please make sure you have very good wet weather tires if you are driving over 100. i was doing around 140 on some places and i felt A BIT OF http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquaplaning. my tires were really good with may be 10% wasteage. So do take care.

On the day i went on E01 and back, i saw at least 3 Maruti 800 stopped on emergency lane and bonnet open, I think these cars are used to going at 40-60. And on highway once they are above 80-100 i guess they overheat as engines are not used those speeds.

DON trust me, i was uttering the same words when a white allion overtook me at 180++. it was almost like the limts of the allion it was very unstable. he overtook me so close that i could feel my car get into a vaccum. i feel that cops should control excessive speeds on E01.

Just returned home from a very enjoyable drive on E01 to unawatuna for the weekend and back. never have enjoyed a SL road better. felt very proud of sri lanka. I just do not know how to thank the authorities. I feel this expressway should be put up to 120kmph very soon as it can handle it. My only worry is all the road kills and the danger of large animals like thalagoyas and kabarays ( almost around 6 feet long ) for vehicales driving at that speed. Also was very sad to see a Fishing Cat ( Handun Diviya ) Dead. I am really digging to buy a Subaru again considering if it rains on E01.

Oh one more thing, none of the guides show what to do if the Expressway Police catches some one speeding. Will they send the ticket to the residing address or does the police car follow you and stop you, I hope morons will not brake from 100 to 50 suddenly when they see cops with speed guns.

I am sure Insurance companies will introduce a New cover Called Expressway Coverage. because any damage to the 3rd party( In this case it can run to millions as its a expressway) insurance will have to bare it up . i am 100 percent sure they will have it as a clause when you renew it in the future. You will have to pay an extra amount on your insurance premuim just like you did for Terrorism cover . on another note just as i would like to drive on the new highway i dont want to die because of a moron who does not know how to drive. its time Authorites ensure that All Driving schools have proper standards to train Drivers and include Methods of Highway Driving to the Curriculum and Driving License Exams ASAP.
