  1. I read in the H*t A*s about D*MO's nano paint finish. Anyone tried this? Apparently they apply a wax However according to Benz, this is a sprayed on clear coat!
  2. How much is a BMW 520D “permit version”? I am being quoted between 11 and 13 Million. Apparently the government officials’ permits are now transferable. I met a car dealer yesterday. He had just sold a “Permit vehicle”, the buyer was there with him. According to him, the transfer is "free" (other than the normal DMV/RMV fees.) Have not done a transfer myself, cannot guarantee accuracy of this information. Thanks

  4. That is very good news. Anyone here has actually done a transfer?
  5. No need for hints. The Full Full Monty was already posted by member whmsujith http://184.172.224.1...ws.php?id=13197
  6. Heard that DMV / RMV is not yet transferring new permit cars. Apparently they have not (yet) received the circular from the relevant ministry! If anyone here has a different experience, please let us know. Also, what is the transfer fee (not the regular DMV / RMV fee, but the additional “payment” to buy a new permit car?) Thank you
  7. Sorry, this link cannot be "read" on my computer. Please would you give us an excerpt? Thank you.
  8. Thank you for all the responses on this matter. Please don't consider me argumentative. I'm only asking, inquiring mind... IF there is a tax portion to be paid when transferring , (depending on the percentage, of course) that would immediately negate the value of transferring before the three year limit. We would be back to the “power of attorney letters” and unofficial transfers!!
  9. Why would the price of vehiles go up? If there is a more supply of vehicles, more competition, the price should come down. That is true logically, while I realize logic may not hold in Sri Lanka. (Where one sees advertisments for Brand New, 1995 automobiles.)
  10. Who is the "they" RMV? Customs? Also how will "they" catch the persons who bought or sold permits? If I sold a permit, all I have to do is, now, get the "transfer" done legally. Ditto if I bought a permit.
  11. a. increase the number of vehicles or price of all the permits vehicles? b. What kind of trap would it be?
  12. If there is a glut of BMW 520Ds etc coming into the market, won't the prices come down?
  13. Thanks. So far no one on this forum has used this "Nano Paint Finish"?
  14. D*MO Nano paint finish? No I don't work for D*MO
  15. I heard of a Nano paint protection at DIMOs. Anyone had this done? Lot of hype or reality? Also, where may I buy good leather protectants (something like Autoglym, Gliptone, Connolly Hide Care or Leatherique) Not trash like armorall Thanks.
  16. Yes, I understand there are some features, like heated seats that would not be useful in Sri Lanka. But overall running, general use, is there a significant difference? I think "bigger radiators, harder suspension etc." is just a con. For example, take Radiators. In the US, one can go from bitter winters of New York to scorching heat of Texas. And Texas itself, Dallas is cold, compared to Galveston. So BMW makes a different version for New York vs Texas, and Dallas Texas BMW is different to Galveston Texas BMW? Not. I owned a Domestic Japanese X trail and it was not significantly different to A*W imported X Trail Except my X Trail had factory HID, GPS etc.
  17. The best is the Toyota Rav 4. Older Korean products are cr*p. X trail is good, maybe out of that price range.
  18. Often one sees comments on how vehicles imported by the agents are acclimatized, and direct imports are not acclimatized (i.e. Agents imports have bigger radiators, stronger springs, shocks, upholstery, and rubber bushes etc. which are specifically made to suit the climate) Is this a marketing ploy? Does Toyota really make two kinds of radiators, one for warm climates and one for cold climates? Yesteryear, when numbers were small and components (like radiator fans) were not so efficient, I can understand the variations. But in today’s mass marketing, economies of scale would dictate all components being the same. Recently Porsche agent carried expensive half page ads saying that one should buy Porsche only from them. (Not that I am looking to buy a Porsche) If all the direct imports are not suited, then all cars at “Indra Traders” and all those in Nugegoda and Peliyagoda etc. etc. are selling substandard products. I think they (agents) are just trying to make a buck over people’s ignorance. Please would knowledgeable people educate us on this?
  19. Toyota cars are generally bullet-proof and economical. Overpriced, market dictated.
