  1. are the windows slow to move? Spray silicon grease into the window channels with the windows down. If the channels are weathered then they can bind a little on the windows which will make the motors draw more current when in use.
  2. i got fined again overtaking on a crossing on my bike.....i overtook a STATIONARY bus that had stopped to let someone out not for someone to cross as there was no one there!!!
  3. just so ya all know, this can not be fully done on a discovery 3/4, range rover sport or any 2006 onwards range rover or fl2. you can change the display reading but when looked at with the IDS program in a dealership you can see the distance travelled in each transmission mode and if it doesnt add up then it doesnt add up. will need a trip to the dealer to be told this, but takes about 10mins to do and is well worth it if your about to hand over a large wad of your hard earned cash
  4. wouldnt go quite as far as that but it is just a pimped up freelander 2 and is not worthy or the range rover title which is turn is just like the ford kuga.. but then again the same can be said for the range rover sport. Not to my personal style of things but they seem to have sold very well in the uk so far as i used to see a lot of them around. Im assuming if you feel this strongly about this then you havent seen the design sketches for the new defender.......in short TATA are about to lose a large amount of defender sales if they go through with their current plans as it takes a certain type of person to buy a defender brand new and they do because of the almost timeless look of them which will be totally lost with the new design.
  5. Can you export old cars out of Sri Lanka though? If you exported some mk1 &2 escorts and any cortina back into the uk you would make a fair bit of cash from them as there is a high demand for them particularly the escorts due to people wanting them for rallying. 2 door models would be the ones to take though, not much of a demand for 4 door models
  6. A dual mass flywheel is where it has 2 parts to it instead of one solid piece. It's joined using heavy duty bushes and is designed to absorb the torque from pull away. It's usually diesels that have this type of flywheel but they could be fitted to petrols. Search on google images or similar and you can see the differences between them and a normal flywheel
  7. exactly what you said, distilled water is one expensive way to fill your coolant system!
  8. i think hes referring to ignition timing, not cam so unless its on a dizzy setup not coilpacks it cant be adjusted other than through the ecu. Ignition timing shouldnt change all on its own unless its due to other factors such as using a lower ocatane fuel than the engine is normally run on though. Id put new plugs in it if the problem has arrisen since servicing. you should not "clean" spark plugs as its commonly done with a wire brush which leaves a thin coating on the electrode of the plug as the electorde is harder than mild steel. Its a known cause of a under load missfire from a performance point of view, could be the hydralic valves as MINIACE has said though if the wrong grade of oil has been used in the change but this would all cause a missfire not engine knock... does it have a dual mass flywheel?
  9. I paid £80 for a TKR heavy duty chain, sprockets, pads and the k&n oil filter with delivery to the uk. Had the chain and sprockets changed today as i have no tools here to do any work but it only cost be 400 rupes! So yes i paid a lot but with drivetrain and brakes i wanted peace of mind it wasnt going to snap on me when im in the middle of nowhere. apon removal found than one of my pins was also busted so your not alone there mate!

if you find you have a leak, check the breather pipe isnt being crushed by something as this can be the cause of a leaking gasket so if the breather isnt sorted you will only be replacing the same leaking gasket further down the line.
  11. pretty car my dads got 3 caddies but all are 69's so no where near as cool style wise
  12. Google it using google.de instead of .com then search for vw parts suppliers and you will get ones that are based in Germany. Then you can use a translator so you can read their site in English. it will be pretty easy as most websites have a picture then the price in Euros, but if you get really really stuck send me an email as I can speak fluent German
  13. Got my sprockets and chain on Saturday :) got myself a k&n oil filter a front pads while I was at it too! Yeah I've got the nx250 manual too, thanks for the offer though mate. Is looking like I may have to sell the bike though as I may be moving back to the uk soon
  14. Just like sylvi said it's all just a gimmick. I met a guy on holiday once who worked for a fuel catalyst company and he was going on and on about how much more bhp I'd get if I fitted one to any of my cars.....once I dropped it to him that I worked for a performance tuning company so I spent most of my day running cars on a dyno he went rather quiet. Best thing to improve power, drivability and fuel economy is a better grade of fuel not an additive. But this is of course more expensive than the normal common petrol. From the tests we did on the dyno we found shell V power to be the best but unfortunately I have yet to see a shell fuel station in Lanka. A simple explanation of this without going into lots of depth is that the higher the fuel octane rating the cleaner the burn, so the ecu can advance the ignition timing more without pinking. The faster the ignition timing the more power is generated so when cruising the engine is not working as hard as it would be with slower timing.
  15. In dealerships we don't even use the commercial coolant flushes, just plain water flush is all that's required unless it's being flushed due to heavy sludge or after a head gasket failure. Even then use washing powder then flush through with water each time until it runs clear and soap free. You can mix different brands together but due to chemical make up I personally would use one brand and stick with it. Colour variations that i have used whilst working in dealer have been green/blue, red/pink/orange and fords latest stuff is a very light purple. All require a 50% dilution with normal water and the colours should never be mixed.
  16. They can look quite smart but some are rather expensive, if your gonna have them, worthwhile getting the locking ones that use a smal Allen key grub screw. I used to see local kids back in the uk stealing them off bentleys to put them on their bikes!
  17. Be very carefull in that case mate, lots of incorrect info on all sorts of things as info is not regulated especially on car forums Looking up phone numbers and general things won't cause you any issues but I've had customers bring their cars to me in the past with some shocking things done and when asked why did you do this the reply has been "the Internet said to"
  18. I'm not sure on the specific car but you cannot mix different colour coolants. It will cause a chemical reaction which will increase corrosion in the coolant system. If you do decide to use a different colour of coolant you must totally flush the system so it must be drained the filled with fresh water, run upto temp then drained again twice before being filled with the new coolant water mix
  19. Happens all over the work mate, put ally with most metals and irk corrode
  20. This method only shows DTC's that are stored in the instrument cluster so it's good for checking exact speed, temps, voltage ect but thats about it
  21. Most people on here just google answers? Recipe for disaster there lads, lots of very incorrect info can be found on google
  22. It's nothing to do with the sun in regards to metal dust caps. It's because metal caps are usually made of ally which naturally corrodes just the same as alloy wheels can corrode into hubs so they must be levered off or tapped off with a soft hammer. Like others have said the simple solution for this if you want to have shiny anodised metal dust caps is to use an anti seize compound such as copper slip
  23. Not being funny here but worrying about core temperature at idle is frankly a waste of time. Worrying about fouled plugs..........are you living in the 80s? Yes as a general rule of thumb plugs will require changing much much more often on a carb'd engine than on an efi engine but this has very little to do with "core temps" its much much more to do with incorrect AFR, which should be very correct at idle. Carb'd engines have very little fueling control whereas an efi engine has lots. Car runs rich - plugs get fouled............ If anything i would be more concerned with the fuel in lanka, in simple terms its CRAP! 90ron???? Best fuel ive seen in galle so far is 95 and thats still crap! Once this country ups the fuel quality everyone will have less issues with their engines, better bang for buck and far better emissions. My comment about the 80's is because back in the day a an engine was designed to do on average 80-100k (miles) before needing a rebuild, spark plugs were also changed at every service interval. A engine from the 90's is expected to do double that with plugs changed every few services. Eg. 4.4 lm range rover (BMW m62 engine) they are only done twice for as long as the service sheet goes for! A modern ford gets them every 25k miles and to be honest they very rarely won't run if they aren't changed. The time deadline for Sylvi think was rather unfair, from what I've read the dude seems to know his stuff that he comments on but like me he can't check in on a forum every single day because he has other things to do.
